Blackwater Mill Residential Home is a sixty-capacity accommodation with scenic surroundings that include six acres of landscaped gardens and a lake, while the property itself is a charming eighteenth-century building that has been lovingly renovated to be suitable for the practice of skilled care.

All of the home's bedrooms offer en-suite facilities, with lifts and assisted bathing ideal for helping those with mobility issues, as well as the choice of four communal lounges or dining rooms in which to socialise or relax.

Many bedrooms and 2 of the lounges have stunning views of the lake.

My 97-year-old father became a resident of Blackwater Mill two weeks before the first "lockdown" in 2020. At that time I telephoned daily and was always able to speak to a senior carer, who gave me an update as to his general well being. Circumstances due to Covid prevented me making safe visits for
about 7 months but during this time I received updates on Dad's welfare. Since the end of March 2021 I have been able to make regular visits and on these occasions strict adherence to Covid regulations have been made. I generally send any queries I may have by email to Management in order to give staff time to fully investigate and on every occasion I have received a very expeditious and full response. When visiting and talking to staff I have found them to be friendly, polite and helpful. Having Vascular Dementia, Dad can be a challenge at times but on these occasions I have full confidence the staff will deal with matters appropriately.

My mother spent her last year in this care home and was very well looked after. She was always treated with respect, care and dignity which can be challenging when dealing with a dementia sufferer. In her final days, everyone took time to talk to her and check she was comfortable. Thank you.

My husband has been at Blackwater Mill for over a year and I cannot praise the staff enough for the kindness and care he has received. This goes for all residents, despite some very challenging behaviour at times. I would like to think all care homes are run this way.

The staff team are extremely caring and supportive both of my dad and myself and my mum. Whenever I visit, they are very sympathetic to the distress my dad's condition causes me and always find time to talk through the ways they make him as comfortable as possible. They are a credit to a much-maligned
industry.

My wife is a resident at the Mill. We were originally sent to the Mill by the hospital. We consider ourselves to be very fortunate to have been sent there and have no complaints at all about our treatment here. Staff are competent, friendly and kind. Food is very good. It is bright, comfortable and
clean. I feel confident and have peace of mind knowing my wife is in good care. Our sincere thanks to all.

I cannot fault the excellent care my mum receives. She's given 1/2 hourly fluids which keeps her well hydrated and well. The staff are all so nice and what I like and my family like is everyone acknowledges us when we visit - management, staff, cleaners, laundry staff and the maintenance staff. (Everyone
in the home)

Blackwater Mill was recommended to me by a medical professional whose mother in law was a resident here.
I never thought my step-mother would settle here. The staff must have worked hard to achieve this which I thank them for.
The staff have a very difficult, underpaid job which they do with a smile.
My
dad has recently been admitted and I can see and feel that he has also settled in, for which I'm exceptionally grateful for.
I have the utmost respect for the staff who work here and in a profession that some members of the public don't appreciate.

At the time of needing to find a care home for my grandmother, we did look around many care homes on the island.
Although Blackwater Mill was not near to where we live, as we would have preferred a place near to us for easy visiting, we felt this was one of the best homes we had looked at.
The overall
feel and look of the home was very clean, bright and friendly.
We felt that my grandmother would be well cared for and looked after well.
She is very happy and settled there.

A wonderful caring residential home. My mother is very happy there and I cannot criticise the care and kindness she has received from all the staff. All her needs are catered for including any medical issues that she might have.
I am confident if for any reason I could not visit she would be in safe
hands.

I wanted a care residential home that felt like home for my husband - Blackwater Residential Home feels like home.
It is clean, comfortable, with a good, friendly atmosphere. The meals are good, variable and nutritious and residents are engaged with daily activities. This care provider treats residents
with dignity, compassion and respect - everything we wanted in a home.
The rooms are adequate for my husband's needs, the communal areas can become a bit cramped when all the visitors arrive. I would fully recommend this home to others.

My mother died at the beginning of February 2017. The care of her while dying was excellent in all areas. She was very happy in the home and considered it to be her own home. I visited regularly and was treated with respect by a happy, caring team. They always had time to answer any queries I had. At
times there was a desperate shortness of staff, this worried me and is reflected in the rating below.
The manager worked hard filling in shifts herself at times to look after her residents, staff and relations, a very competent lady.

My wife has Alzheimers and became a resident just before Christmas in 2015. At that time I was without doubt at my lowest emotional ebb and felt I was rapidly losing control of events. My wife was initially allocated a three-week emergency respite and I was really worried that she would become further
distressed in a strange environment. My fears were quickly assuaged when her home assessment was carried out by the Manager who showed her remarkable skill by the way she spoke to my wife and explained to the both of us what was happening. This practical support was the first sympathetic link my wife and I received. I was able to visit, unannounced, the following afternoon and was delighted by my reception and the overall ambience. It was still the hardest thing in the world to relinquish my wife's care but I am so thankful for the staff at Blackwater for all they have done. My wife is well looked after, treated with kindness and dignity and extremely well fed.
