I am exceptionally pleased with the level of care that my mother receives at Merrydale. My mother is awkward to say the least, and the staff are very patient and caring despite of the difficulties that my mother presents them with. Merrydale is always very clean and welcoming, nothing is too much trouble.
Top marks to all the staff.

My father had been a resident at Merrydale for nearly 6 years when He died in September.
The staff had made the last years of my father's life pleasurable with their caring and supportive approach. Merrydale is very much a family and nothing was ever too much trouble. He was also a huge fan of the
food.
The end-of-life care provided was exemplary and extremely personal. Dignity was maintained at all times and staff were constantly assessing my father for any pain or distress. They involved the palliative care team in a timely manner. Not only did the staff support my father during this time, they included the whole family. I felt nothing but love and care from the staff throughout this time.
The month after my father's death Merrydale help an afternoon tea to remember my dad including my family and the other residents. The staff shared funny memories, and photographs and one of the other residents read a poem. I can't thank the staff enough and would highly recommend Merrydale to anyone considering residential care.

My mother moved into Merrydale during the pandemic and was there until her passing in October 2024. As a family, we are very happy with the care my mother received throughout her time there. The staff are extremely dedicated and clearly have close, yet professional relationships with the residents,
treating them with dignity and compassion and we witnessed plenty of laughter between staff and residents. It did feel like being part of a family. I got to know the staff very well and trusted them to look after my mother and to keep me up to date with any issues that might arise. I was also confident that the management would respond quickly and appropriately to any questions I might have. My mother's room was small but served her needs and was homely. The cooks were always aware of Mum's likes and dislikes and adapted meals to suit these.
I would highly recommend Merrydale to anyone looking for a friendly, caring, safe and professionally run care home for their loved one.

Merrydale is a wonderful care home, my mum has been there for two years.
All the staff are amazing, very caring, nothing is too much trouble. There are plenty of staff on any given day, it's always fresh and clean, always a rota and picture of who's working on that day.
Everyone is extremely well
looked after, if a doctor is needed, they will call straight away and also inform me straight away and sort usually that day.
I love my mum being there and she likes it too as she's relaxed and happy, the chefs are excellent all the food is freshly cooked and looks delicious.
All in all, I really don't have anything bad to say about it, it's amazing.

My mother, who is 94 years old, has been a resident at Merrydale since early September 2021. Having led a very independent life, the move to a residential care home due to mobility issues was something she found difficult in the early days. This was made worse by the restrictions imposed because of
the Covid virus. However, the transition was managed extremely well by the manager and her deputy, together with the dedicated and hard-working staff. It wasn't that long before she considered Merrydale to be her home, had made friends with other residents and regarded staff as being individuals she could fully trust. Indeed, she now regards the latter as her close friend.
Merrydale represents everything anyone could wish for if they need to be looked after. It feels like home, the staff are very caring and friendly, and the food is excellent! The atmosphere is always a happy one. I am extremely grateful for the care and support provided both to my mother and to me.

Merrydale is so homely and comfortable it is like being in someone's own home.
Staff are always welcoming and friendly and any concerns taken seriously and dealt with quickly.
The quality of care is always extremely good due to the high staffing ratios.
Meals are all freshly prepared with delicious
food and individual requirements well catered for.
The standard of care is exceptional, with genuine caring going into the tasks of looking after the residents. All the staff seem happy to be there and give their very best to the residents, frequently going over and above to help bring pleasure to the residents lives. Because it is a small friendly home, staff are always present and visible such that there is constant interaction with the residents.
I am so pleased I chose Merrydale for my mother's care. She is completely contented and her life is as safe and fulfilled as we could wish for.
Throughout the pandemic, stringent measures were taken to successfully protect the residents.

Merrydale is a small and friendly care home. My mother was extremely happy as a resident there until December 2020. The home is well managed, and the staff were very vigilant in these difficult times. I always felt staff knew my mother's needs and were very quick to pick up any changes in herself.
For
me, it is notable that staff remained consistent and caring, and my mother always commented on how helpful and kind people were and appreciated good care at night time also.

Current Review Score: 9.5 (9.483)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.5 (9.483) out of 10 for Merrydale is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.783 for Merrydale is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 83 Ratings = 4.783

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Merrydale is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 16 registered maximum number of service users is 3.2, which has been reached with 7 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
