It's never nice to have to put your parents into care, but Old Charlton House really puts my mind at ease with the care they give my father. The staff are very patient with him as he can be a bit difficult at times. The staff are all very friendly and always at hand and helpful to discuss any issues
that arise.

My mum has been a resident at Old Charlton House for 2 and a half years. During that time, her mental and physical health has deteriorated. At every change, the staff at Old Charlton have adapted to her greater needs with empathy and kindness. They are unfailingly cheerful and despite mum's challenging
demeanour, they remain calm, patient and respectful.
I have nothing but praise for the whole team - from management down.

Constant and continuous updating of care for mum who began her stay in poor health (9 weeks on a stroke ward, lost substantial weight, no end diagnosis by hospital). The manager picked up straight away on various health issues needing to be addressed, she was let down by the district nurse system but
kept going until the issue was finally addressed.
Very welcoming staff whenever we attend, regular meals and high standard (mum's weight now being monitored) and I am always aware of maintenance issues being addressed promptly (unlike previous care home) with the well-meaning owner. Mum would like to go home, however, while at this home, my sisters and I are very pleased with mum's care and we don't have to worry about the care she is receiving. Thank you very much.

Old Charlton House is primarily a residential home, however, at a time when my mum has become incapacitated by Alzheimer's disease they have beyond a residential home. They truly care for my mym and will not be asking me to mover her. I am truly grateful for the amazing care they give her.

Since mum moved from the mainland 6 months ago, having experienced very poor care from community carers, both her physical and emotional wellbeing have improved well beyond my expectations.
Without a doubt, this is due to the excellent physical care she has received from the wonderful staff team. Care
is delivered with extraordinary kindness and cheerfulness. As a result of the high standard of care, the family now have peace of mind for which I thank the team.

I cannot thank Old Charlton enough for the kindness that I personally witnessed on a number of occasions when I visited my Father by the nursing/care assistant team and the managerial staff. It was very clear and evident to me of the fantastic /overwhelming care the home provided him in the last period
of his life.
When my Father was in the hospital all he spoke about was of returning to his beloved nursing home in the daily visits that I saw him.
Even in the last few days of his life after the 2nd discharge from hospital when he was suffering the team still had their calming influence and compassion for him.
I noticed that on the front door of the care home there are a number of benchmarks that the home is ranked against. The general rating was that they were GOOD.
I don’t know the full criteria for these and how they are established but from both mine and my late father’s perspective, I believe the home is OUTSTANDING and would fully recommend it to take care of their loved ones.

My father has been a resident of Old Charlton House, for over 3 years. During this time his dementia has worsened considerably and he has developed several medical problems, The care and attention he has received from the staff has been wonderful. The carers are kind, gentle and respectful and the management
team has been superb in advising and helping us through difficult times, My husband and I would not hesitate to recommend Old Charlton House to anyone.

All the staff were extremely kind, caring and professional over the care of mum. Nothing was too much trouble. They showed total respect all the time, at the same time, giving very personal and almost loving care. I would completely recommend this home.

The home goes above and beyond to look after my mother. They also support us as a family. It is always clean and tidy.
The food looks lovely, especially the puddings. I recommend them to people who are in the same situation. The staff and management always make you feel welcome, whatever time of day
you visit.

My cousin who is suffering from immobility and dementia seems happy enough with her situation at Old Charlton and always replies positively when asked about her life there.
She enjoys joining in the activities in the afternoon and is quite happy to listen to classical music in her room at the time.
Nothing is too much trouble for the staff.
The Old Charlton has a most relaxed and homely atmosphere.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.844)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.844) out of 10 for Old Charlton House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.944 for Old Charlton House is calculated as follows: ( (103 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.944

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Old Charlton House is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 32 registered maximum number of service users is 6.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
