Bradfield is a registered, family owned and run residential home established in 1995. They care for up to 37 people offering both full time residential stay and day care facilities. Bradfield is registered with the Care Quality Commission and achieved an Outstanding rating in December 2015.

The aims for Bradfield are to maintain a homely environment for older people which respects their privacy, dignity and personal esteem.

The objectives for Bradfield

Bradfield strives to offer fair and equal treatment to all, regardless of age, sex, marital status, sexual orientation, race, colour, nationality, ethic origin, disability, religious belief or financial circumstances.

There are two managers who run Bradfield on a daily basis. They are supported by an assistant manager, duty manager and an excellent team of four senior carers, 20 trained carers, five chefs and six domestic staff to uphold the aims and objectives of the home. Knowledge and experience are essential in this field of work.

The staff are responsible for meeting the individual needs of each resident as set out in their plan of care. To do this, trained members of caring staff are on duty 24 hours a day, one of which includes a senior carer. The proprietors are the management team and are on duty during the day and on call at night, and live on the premises.

They understand that moving into a caring environment is a big decision and they strive to help each resident maintain their chosen lifestyle whilst becoming part of a community.

The staff were fantastic, caring and helpful. Very clean and food very good. Couldn't ask for a better care home.

My mother, at 104, needs a good deal of help, especially after falling and breaking her hip last year. The help is cheerfully given and her condition carefully monitored. Her quality of life is inevitably much diminished but she always seems happy; this must be down to the care she receives from the
staff. As a visitor I always feel welcome at the home, tea or coffee is always offered.

Rebecca

Rebecca Johnson

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 1995

Rebecca has been at Bradfield from the very start when her parents opened the home in 1995.
After completing her A-levels, Rebecca completed a BA/BSc Business Studies with Tourism and Leisure (Hons) at Canterbury Christ Church University.
Rebecca has also completed the Registered Managers award and holds an NVQ4 in Health and Social Care.


Rebecca manages the day to day running of the home including the catering. Her role also includes responsibility for medication, quality assurance, risk assessments, Health and Safety, Training and Development, Activities and care planning.


She is supported in her role by her husband, David.


In her free time, Rebecca enjoys reading, going to the gym and walking her two dogs.
As well as all this, she manages to make time for her 3 children who all go to local schools and attend various after school clubs such as rugby, music, dance and singing.


David

David Johnson

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2005

David, husband to Rebecca joined Bradfield in 2005, moving from a career in management at Tesco.
They have 3 children and live on site of the care home, so always available and on-call when needed.
He has completed the QCF Level 5 Diploma in Residential Management, and oversees the daily operation of the home with his wife, Rebecca.
His main responsibilities include recruitment and admissions, advertising and marketing, financial management, contract servicing and overseeing the maintenance of the building and grounds.


He has managed the expansion of the home in recent years from 21 rooms to its current occupancy of 33.


In his free time, you will find him on the sidelines supporting his son who plays in the Junior Team at Canterbury Rugby Club, or attending concerts and dance shows which his daughters enjoy participating in.
David also developed a lockdown hobby for koi carp and pond fish, and built his own pond during this time, rescuing fish from local ponds that were no longer wanted.
They also have two dogs, Tilly and Pippa who visit the residents in the home regularly.


Nichola

Nichola Gladwish

Job Title: Assistant Manager

Joined: 2009

Nicky was promoted to her current position in 2016, after successfully progressing from a Care Assistant to a Senior Care Assistant during her time at Bradfield.
Nicky supports the managers by deputising in their absence and her main responsibilities include medication management, staff training & supervisions and liaising with the GP, District Nurse and visiting health professionals.
Nicky supports the care staff to achieve the home's aims and objectives.


Her interests include spending time with her family, going to gigs/concerts, country walks, Zumba, Eating out and hotel breaks.
Nicky loves going on holiday with her husband who is an avid Manchester United supporter and dedicates an entire room of memorabilia to the club in their house. Nicky would prefer a gin bar and hot tub!


Julie

Julie Tazey

Job Title: Senior Carer

Joined: 2016

Julie joined the team in March 2016 and soon demonstrated that her skill and experience would be far better utilised as a Senior Carer when she was promoted in February 2017. Julie had 10-years experience, moving to us from another care home in Deal.


Julie is responsible for staff training, medication administration and supporting the care staff in their daily roles. She loves taking the residents out on trips, especially to Deal seafront where the residents (and Julie) enjoy a 99 ice cream!


In her spare time, Julie enjoys gardening and eating out at local restaurants.


Ben

Ben Williams

Job Title: Senior Carer

Joined: 2019

Ben decided on a totally new change of career following many years working long days and late nights in the hospitality industry, predominantly front of house.


After a year getting to know the role and its routines, Ben successfully completed a Level 3 Apprenticeship in Health & Social Care. He was then promoted into his current role which he is extremely adaptable in.


Ben is one of our flexible workers, and such works in all areas of the home from Duty Management to Chef or even night shifts. He enjoys the variety which his role provides, and often gets many 'mini holidays' as his days off are often grouped together.


Ben's talents don't end there, he is also our 'in-house' creative artist. He is always decorating parts of the home with seasonal displays for example Mother's Day, Halloween, Remembrance Day and Christmas (his favourite time of the year!) to name a few.


In his spare time, Ben continues to let his creative juices flow and has sold pieces of work in local craft fairs. He enjoys decorating his house with unique items, looking after his chickens and taking his dog on long walks in the countryside with his husband who is passionate about tractors and competes in ploughing matches.

Shelagh Marsh

Job Title: Senior Carer

Joined: 2021

Shelagh recently joined the team in January 2021 from another local care home, which the owners made the difficult decision to close following financial pressures as a direct result of covid.


She has proven very quickly that she has the experience, tenacity and confidence to progress at Bradfield and was promoted to her current role in September 2021. She brings a lot of energy to the team and has become the in-house 'Mother Theresa' if any staff have any worries they can always rely on Shelagh to help!


Shelagh brings with her 43 years of experience, starting he career at the age of 17 as an Auxiliary Nurse in 1978.


Shelagh 'doesn't have any spare time', but when she is not at work she will be looking after, walking or cycling with some of her 10 grandchildren, doing a jigsaw or walking her huge, slobbery New Foundland dog.


Morven

Morven Lee

Job Title: Admin Assistant

Joined: 2020

Morven joined the team at Bradfield in August 2020, relocating from France where she worked as a guest services manager for a well known chalet letting company in the French Alps.


As well as supporting with training & recruitment, audits and quality assurance, Morven assists with daily covid testing, registering and monitoring of test results. She is currently studying for a Level 3 Business Administration qualification with Bradfield.
Her lively personality is infectious and she always has a smile on her face and a warm welcome.


Morven enjoys walking her two dogs, visiting local pubs & restaurants and likes to socialise with her friends.
She is planning to get married to her fiancé as soon as possible.


Kirsty

Kirsty Brown

Job Title: Admin Assistant

Joined: 2014

Kirsty is employed as one of our Admin Assistants moving from the kitchen, previously as our chef, as her daughter grew up a change of circumstances meant a new role and challenge for her!


Kirsty has been at Bradfield since 2014, moving to us from a local butchers/bakery.


Her role is primarily compliance and auditing, checking that everything is recorded and in place so she is constantly monitoring that everything is safe, effective and in good working order. Kirsty also assists with Covid testing in the home and orders all of the food so we have what we want when we need it.
If we need help, she will still support in the kitchen and can cook a mean roast to the residents and staff delight!


Kirsty has two horses which keeps her busy when she is not at Bradfield and enjoys hacking out in the Kent countryside on her own or with her daughter. She likes taking her dog on long walks in the countryside and weekends camping with her family.

Tanya Radley

Job Title: Senior Support

Joined: 2017

Tanya has been a very loyal and trusted member of the team since 2017. She is very laid back but equally as hard working and always with a smile and a laugh!


Her role is to support the Duty Manager and also the care staff on duty to ensure the shift runs smoothly. She will be welcoming visitors to the home, swabbing them and helping them to 'don' and 'doff' their PPE.


Tanya will also be responsible for administering medication and seeing the district nurse who visits the home routinely.


In her spare time, Tanya enjoys spending time with her dog who she rescued from a shelter. She likes to go to rock concerts and one day hopes to marry David Grohl from the Foo Fighters! Her daughter Alisha works at the sister care home, Generals Meadow so a caring nature is certainly in the family.


Charlotte

Charlotte Peay-Smith

Job Title: Senior Carer

Joined: 2018

Charlotte is a dependable, respected member of the senior care team, always making sure that everyone is OK and helping out wherever needed. She is confident in her role and knows what good looks like.


She will take charge of a situation and motivate others to reach their goals. A born leader!


In her spare time, Charlotte spends time looking after her grandad who lives on his own.
It's not all work and no play, Charlotte loves a good party and will get her dancing shoes on whenever the opportunity presents itself!
She enjoys spending time looking after herself and having beauty treatments which make her feel and look good.
She lives locally with her husband, Ben and two teenage children.
