We are most grateful for the wonderful care our friend received during the seven years she was at The Cumberland Care Home. When she first arrived there she had numerous care needs. These were met with compassion and understanding. As her needs changed so did the care. The staff were always friendly,
welcoming and supportive. We are thankful for all our friend received.

I have found all the staff to be very kind and welcoming. My mother has settled in well, despite being very anti-care home in the past. No one wants to put a parent in a home, but as it may be the safest option, the excellent care at The Cumberland is to be commended.

My husband went to stay at The Cumberland 5 weeks ago. I can see him whenever I like (within reason). My husband has Alzheimer's and is fully incontinent, he is so well taken care of day and night, especially night. That is when his sleep pattern has changed, he's up and down all the time and poos himself
and his bed, but the staff (night staff) are on it. There is a sensor on his bed so they know when he gets up and they wash and change him as often as he needs to be changed. Very happy with The Cumberland. I feel happy that my husband is safe in their hands and well taken care of.

The Cumberland is a care home for ladies with dementia and has been home to mum for the last 10 years. The Cumberland is always clean and the staff are very welcoming and extremely good caregivers to all residents nothing is too much trouble and mum is cared for in a kind and supportive way at all times.
I would not hesitate in recommending this care home.

An "all ladies" home is unusual to find (in my opinion) but it suits Mum so well. The Cumberland isn't huge but that just means much more personal attention for the ladies. The staff are so friendly to me and helpful, and understanding of my feelings as Mum's condition declines. They are so caring with
the ladies - it does come across as a big family. There are lots of activities organised and I am so happy I chose The Cumberland for Mum.

From the first day until now, Mum has been cared for with kindness and dignity (I would say even love). Nothing seems to be too much trouble and everything is done with a smile. The management and staff have done an amazing job during the pandemic and there has not been a single case of COVID in the
home, staff, or residents. I would not hesitate to recommend The Cumberland to any family looking for a safe and caring home for their relative.

The Cumberland staff have always treated Mum with such care and dignity. All through this pandemic, the safety of all its residents and staff have been paramount, and they have achieved this with no Covid in the home amongst its ladies. It has allowed us as a family to have peace of mind throughout
this worrying time. Fantastic care home.

Want to say how wonderful the home and all its staff have been during the pandemic. I cannot praise them highly enough. They have continually saved lives. Incidentally, more than one health professional has praised their care in conversation with me.

The most amazing thing about The Cumberland was the ability to assess Mum's needs, to change her care and her routine to suit her needs without Mum noticing or me having to ask for changes. The home was brilliant, Mum lived her last 6 and a half years at The Cumberland, as happy as she Could be, although
of course, she had her moans. In a strange way, it was a very happy time for me. I made friends, both clients, and staff. I called in most days, at different times of the day and the welcome was always the same.

I would thoroughly recommend The Cumberland to anyone needing the services of a care home. All the staff are caring in the true meaning of the word. Visitors are made very welcome and are immediately informed of any concerns of the resident. You can clearly see how residents are treated with dignity
which is essential. All the staff are very nice and caring.

My aunt has been at The Cumberland since August 2016. I have always had every confidence that she is in good hands and being well looked after in every way. The staff are all very dedicated, without exception and she responds to them very well.

The Cumberland provides a wonderful service that is very difficult to find any negative comments to make. The staff and management are of the highest standard. Support and help given to mum is excellent. The only slight downside is the allotted area for visitors which is short of seating.

After a truly awful, difficult and at times frankly terrifying 18 months trying to keep mum in her own home, the care at ‘The Cumberland’, which she moved to after a 7 week stay in a dementia assessment unit has been wonderful from the outset. My lovely mum had become someone angry and childlike, a
complete personality about-face: very physically active at all times of the day and night, I could not envisage how any establishment would be able to cope. Nevertheless, the staff at ‘The Cumberland’ took her in their stride and have been just fantastic. We live over 200 miles away and visit unannounced every 3rd or 4th weekend. Very often, we find the amazing manager on the shop floor and always the lovely staff engaging with the residents in a charming and well organised way.
The place itself is not the most well appointed, but it's all about the atmosphere and care, with everybody exuded confidence and compassion. Thank goodness we found it and thank goodness they had room for mum.

If you are looking for a care home I cannot recommend The Cumberland highly enough. My mother was very well cared for and nothing was too much trouble for any of the staff. I was always greeted warmly on my regular visits to mum as were the rest of my family. The Cumberland has a lovely atmosphere and
the staff are always very caring, also making visitors feel very welcome. The staff are very knowledgeable and available to answer questions at any time. The home is very clean and well looked after. I often walked in, to the ladies having a little sing song and sometimes a little dance around the lounge. I still go back to visit as they became a second family. I could not find fault with anything at The Cumberland.

Excellent in every possible way. Not only is this home exceptionally well-managed, but the care provided by the staff is of outstanding quality. The residents are genuinely loved by the staff, and there is always a welcome for family members. The home is exceptionally clean, with no lingering smells.
If there is a medical problem, medical care is always on hand. There can be very few homes of this high standard in the UK giving such expert care to those suffering from dementia.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.810)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.810) out of 10 for The Cumberland is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.745 for The Cumberland is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 47 Ratings = 4.745

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.065 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Cumberland is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.8 = 0.69

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
