My relative seems to have settled in well. After living alone for a long time, she now enjoys the company of fellow residents and also likes her room and the views from it. We have found all staff and the manager always helpful and approachable, happy to deal with any issues/requests that we have. Overall,
we're happy with the care that our relative has been given and pleased that she seems happy there - thank you!

Been here for two weeks on respite care and have thoroughly enjoyed my stay. The staff are all amazing and want to make your time with them as good as possible. The property is wheelchair accessible and is very good. The garden is well accessible. The food is all home-cooked and plenty of it. My room
was very large with its own shower. Great place to stay.

I spent nine months living in the care home and I must say when I first arrived, I was really scared not knowing what to expect, but my fears were completely unjust.
I was there due to an accident I had at work. The staff are wonderful, they really looked after me. They treated me with respect, dignity,
love and care! They were there for me on my low days as well as my happy days and l will never be able to repay them! They work so so hard!
If I ever needed the support of a care home in the future, I wouldn't hesitate in returning to The Island Residential Home, Leysdown.
Thank you so so much.

Our mother is receiving excellent care. We were very hesitant about putting her into care, but her dementia behaviour was getting too challenging. We were thrilled to see her settle so quickly in her lovely room. We have a regular video call with her each week during Covid, which reassures us that she
is safe and very happy. We have an assigned carer who organises these and have formed a great relationship.

Mostly good. Staff are friendly and caring. A smile goes a long way!
Usually answer the phone when I ring to ask for buzzer to be at hand or charge his phone. Biggest problem is no visiting due to lockdown! Dealing with a difficult situation with compassion!

Reply from Georgia Cooling, Marketing at The Island Residential Home

Thank you so much for your kind words and positive review. As you mention, sadly due to government restrictions we were unable to permit visitors during lockdown. But we look forward to welcoming friends and relatives once government guidance permits!

I cannot praise enough all the staff and management for the excellent way they looked after my darling wife. Being my first experience of respite, I was to say the least very concerned - all my fears seem to have been unnecessary. My wife looked very content and relaxed when I picked her up - well done
everybody.

Reply from Anthony Lewis, Registered Manager at The Island Residential Home

Thank you for your lovely feedback. I am delighted to hear that your wife's stay was a good one and that it has eased your fears about using a respite service. We hope to welcome you both to the service again in the future. Kind regards Anthony.

I personally chose the Island Residential Home to move my mum to from another home. The Island Residential Home is spacious, the care the staff give is very attentive, the facilities at the home are a good standard. Activities are given regularly - residents are involved with all sorts of activities
and crafts.
The home has a lovely garden area where regular activities take place. There is always something to stimulate resident's minds.

When my wife went into this care home I was a bit worried about it. Online, it showed you it was a bit run down by overgrown plants over the balcony and the grounds were the same, but when I arrived I was surprised to see what they had done to change this. The lady who ran the place was very nice and
assured me everything would be alright. I needn't have worried, it was all good. The whole staff took very good care of her and they all took to her and made her stay a very good one. Very well done.

Hi Michael, thank you for your review and we are happy to hear that your wife enjoyed her stay at our home – it was lovely having her stay with us. We have had a lot of refurbishment work done recently which has made a big, positive difference and the images on our website were from before the refurbishment work was completed. We are aiming to update the images on our website also in the very near future.

The staff warmly welcomed me with every visit to my mum including offers of a cuppa with an update regarding my mum.
I witnessed how kind, caring and attentive staff were in making every effort to meet the needs of residents in a cheerful and friendly manner despite a difficult and demanding role.
As
my mum has dementia, it was not possible for her to comment on the Island but she seemed settled with no signs of distress and maintained her appetite which is always a good sign. I did chat with other residents who said how lovely the home is and how happy they are there.
The period of my mum staying at the Island was a difficult one, having to make decisions about her long term needs but after talking to several staff, they were very understanding and provided sound advice and reassurance. The manager was also extremely helpful and supportive which was much appreciated.
Yes, the interior does look shabby and in need of an update but the care I can not fault & that was more important to me. So thank you, everyone, for your kindness and hard work.

Reply from B Dhaliwal, Registered Manager at The Island Residential Home

Thanks, Andrea S, it was a pleasure to care for your Mother during the short respite. We understand how difficult choosing the right care home is.

We are currently redecorating our interior and hope that the current residents enjoy their newly chosen colour themes.

Since I came here straight from hospital, I was in a very bad way health wise, as well as my mental health. Since Jan 2016 the home has helped me in many ways. Helping me with some of my problems regarding my medical and mental health. I'm not quite there yet but with their help, I'm looking forward
to the years to come!

Current Review Score: 7.5 (7.502)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 7.5 (7.502) out of 10 for The Island Residential Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.1 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.091 for The Island Residential Home is calculated as follows: ( (7 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 4.091

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.411 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Island Residential Home is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 35 registered maximum number of service users is 7. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 7 = 0.286

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
