My mum has been a resident now for 1-1/2 years - she is well looked after by all friendly and professional staff especially as she is severely sighted and has the onset of dementia.
In March of this year, Madeira Lodge Care Home held a training session for any families/professionals that would like
to attend. I was very keen to learn anything about this terrible condition. On the course, I learnt many things like
how to understand various types of Dementia and Alzheimer’s, understanding of how the brain works, how to enhance communication on a day-to-day basis,
how to be aware of how the actual person is feeling.
I was amazed at all the things I had no clue about and now have a bit more insight into how a person with either Dementia or Alzheimer’s is feeling.

My father has been in Madeira Lodge for 2 and a half years but sadly passed away on the 16th February 2022.
He had been in a few other care homes previously but they were unable to look after him due to his behaviour. As soon as he arrived at Maderia Lodge we knew it was the place he would spend his
final years - safe, secure, well cared for, loved and well fed.

I picked my mum up for a belated Christmas lunch which she thoroughly enjoyed. The young staff member which greeted me was so kind. Her helpfulness and gentleness of getting my mum in the car and same again when I returned. She was so gentle with her which made my mum smile. I can honestly say my mum's
settled and happy which makes me happy and smile too.

My husband, who died recently, was in his 16th year of Alzhiemers. He was a patient in Madeira Lodge for 2 ad a half years and during this time I can only speak in glowing terms of the loving care, compassion and empathy he received from Matron and her well trained staff. He was also nursed most efficiently
during two bouts of COVID, hip operation recovery and two illnesses. Latterly he no longer knew me or my family but responded happily to Matron and staff. During the two days of his final illness, Matron ensured he was made comfortable, received dignity and, by obtaining appropriate medical assistance, he died peacefully.

Mum has been at Maderia Lodge since June 2021. She has been well cared for from the start. Staff are very patient and caring. Due to COVID restrictions, I have not seen her room yet and only recently have been in the lounges, lovely rooms. I am impressed by the activities in which Mum participates.
The atmosphere is relaxed and happy. Mum enjoys her food here.

My mum arrived at Madeira Lodge Care Home following being given notice by a nursing home who were no longer able to look after her properly and were struggling to meet her basic needs and those of her dementia following a horrific fall. When she first arrived she was continually shouting for help, was
very frightened and anxious almost to the point of being unrecognisable as my mum. She has been at Madeira Lodge Care Home now for five weeks. In this time they have not only addressed all of her basic needs but she has been seen by a district nurse on numerous occasions who has provided essential health care, the mental health team and her GP and she has been transported to the hospital by Madeira Lodge for fracture clinic appointments with a familiar carer. The team of staff have positively identified strategies to support her dementia alongside caring, loving and supporting her to the highest level, making her feel safe, secure and one of their extended family. Thank you for giving us back our mum.

Dad was adamant he didn't want to go to Madeira Lodge saying he won't know anyone ... he went and had such a lovely relaxing time he didn't want to come home ... he really enjoyed the experience as he hadn't been before.

The staff are amazing and will accommodate anything you ask within reason. I don't live in the area and would have loved my husband closer but as he had been moved twice already I really wanted to keep him somewhere he was settled and he's very happy here.

My dad has been here for a few months now. It is lovely to see the positive changes in him now he is getting the care that he needs. My mother has dementia and Alzheimers and has been with Madeira Lodge Care Home for nearly a year now. The staff are always friendly and offer amazing service. They are always friendly, attentive and professional, and nothing is too much trouble for them. Mum is very happy there and has settled in very
well. The staff are always doing things to engage with the residents with all sorts of activities. The home is kept to a very high standard, and they are at present adding new rooms. I can't praise the staff enough for what they do here. Well done and thank you.

This is a professionally run service with reliable and long-serving staff. The care is personal and friendly while giving relatives of residents a sense of confidence and security. I have always been impressed by the carer's understanding and willingness to individualise the care given to residents,
especially during such difficult times as experienced this year. It is so difficult to leave a loved one when they live with dementia, but knowing they are as happy as they can be and safely looked after takes a lot of the worry away. A really genuine big thank you to the experienced managers and their knowledgeable staff.

My dad's diagnosis of Vascular Dementia and Alziehmers meant we could no longer meet his needs and keep him free from harm. We originally booked him into Maderia Lodge for respite care but it soon became apparent he needed the specialist care the home provided 24 hours a day. Not only do the kind and
caring staff look after Dad, but they also take into consideration the well-being of family members (who have been fantastic support when times have been challenging for us). All the staff at the home are very welcoming and it has a very homely friendly atmosphere. Dad has been at the home for 14 months and the family cannot praise the staff enough for providing a high standard of care to everyone, there are no words to describe our gratitude to the staff for the love and care they give to dad, keeping him safe, warm and well-fed.

My mother passed away 3.7.19 - the whole family are devastated. Although we knew this is what my mother wanted, it was still very hard to come to terms with.
The staff at Madeira Lodge are absolutely amazing, I cannot fault any of them. They kept us informed of every step of her journey. They made
sure my mother was as comfortable as she could be. The night staff that were on duty at the time of my mother's passing were so kind and compassionate. They are a real credit to the management, they have been trained well. I personally could not do their job.
We spent two nights at Madeira Lodge. The manager and deputy manager could not have been more accommodating, allowing family members who had travelled a long way to take showers and a place to sleep.
The cook kept us supplied with some amazing food and drinks, that you would find in a 5* restaurant, so appreciated. It was so lovely to hear lots of staff visiting mum before she passed, retelling stories of what she had been up to. Thank you.

Today my Nan passed away here at Madeira Lodge. Whilst my family and I were here we were all made to feel like we were at home, make a cup of tea, or some toast, have a shower, the home was ours. I stayed Monday night and throughout my time, not only was I well informed, but I also didn't feel that
I had to chase up the home for anything (medication/nan being turned etc). The Manager was amazing. 100% supporting all of us. Another carer there went above and beyond and even sat with my Nan and we all left giving my Nan an opportunity to slip away from us all (which she didn't take....). Another carer too goes above and beyond, but as do all the staff. They treat my Nan like their own family and many even came in on their days off to say goodbye and tell us lots of stories about Nan.
I cannot recommend this home enough. Please do not hesitate to place a loved one here. If you want them to be looked after and treated like family, then here is where they need to go.

A lovely home, with kind staff who are friendly with every resident and provide top quality care. They treat every resident as they would their own loved one.
Dementia patients can be quite temperamental, however, the staff know how to deal with residents in these situations in a professional and
caring manner.
From past experiences of my nan being in previous other homes, I can say that this one has been the best!

My wife was looked after with compassion and with great dignity. She had no complaint about the home whatsoever and was contented and calm. The staff seemed to know each resident as an individual and were always at hand when help was needed. They were cheerful, friendly and extremely supportive and
had a genuine care for the people in the home. Indeed, three of the senior staff attended my wife's memorial service which meant a great deal to our family. We are forever grateful to all the staff of Madeira Lodge.

My experience of Maderia Lodge is just 1st class. My wife receives very good attention and staff attend to her needs with love, care and concern, and comfort where needed.
Visits to the hospitals and doctors are traumatic for dementia residents when this has been necessary a member of staff goes with
her giving reassurance. Both manager and staff give me and the family confidence she is in a very caring home and it helps us come to terms with the illness. Thank you Maderia Lodge.

Kelly Parker

Job Title: Care Home Manager

Joined: 2024

Kelly began her career as a carer & has worked hard to progress her knowledge and experience over 20+ years.


She wholeheartedly believed this was her path because she has always been a people person and was determined to give back to the community.


She has an abundance of knowledge in a variety of care environments, including Learning Disabilities, Mental Health as well as Dementia.


Managing Care Homes for over 8 years, her determination as a Registered Manager has resulted in exceptional outcomes, i.e. achieving levels of ‘Outstanding’ with CQC.


Kelly is very excited to be joining the Belmont Healthcare team and is very much looking forward to delivering the best person-centred care for every individual at Madeira Lodge.
