Carleton Lodge and Carleton Mead stand side by side, overlooking the busy sea bay, with views all the way to France.

The Royal Marines bandstand is on the green a few minutes away and musical concerts in the summer are a great feature of Deal life. The Deal Lifeboat centre and the yachting club nearby adds to the local marine interest of the Walmer area. Good local shops, the town centre and Deal Castle are a short distance as are GP surgeries and all other services.

All rooms are thoughtfully decorated and equipped and residents are encouraged to bring in their own favourite furniture and possessions. Care workers provide a safe, homely atmosphere and a totally flexible life-style. Emphasis is placed on individuality and independence. Residents enjoy a choice of meals, prepared daily, using freshly purchased, local produce.

Staff are always pleased to meet with visitors to discuss their needs.

Loving caring polite staff. Clean building with a good atmosphere. Hard working staff that demonstrate tolerance and understanding of the residents. Rooms are clean and tidy. I always recommend the home to other members of the public.

I have been volunteering here since October. I have always found the staff very welcoming. I have observed a very keen sense of belonging to a family when the staff attend to the residents. There is a very varied activity programme which runs every day. I think the biggest asset which I have seen every
member of staff has is patience - something that is so crucial for the residents living here. They are cared for as individuals with dignity and kindness.

I am familiar with many care/residential homes in this area. When my friend who I was caring for needed 24/7 attention... within 24 hours he felt secure and comfortable looking one hundred per cent relaxed and better. The staff very professional but friendly and supportive to visitors, always around
but not intrusive. 'I am impressed'.

Dad moved into Walmer Care Centre in October 2024, he has always said he would never accept moving into a care home, even when in hospital after falls he was always wanting to leave before his treatment had finished. We took Dad with trepidation wondering how long he would last, he is still there three
months later and he is very happy. The staff are wonderful, kind, respectful and engaging. There is always a cheerful atmosphere and the care is outstanding. Why were we worried, Dad is thriving.

I have been so impressed by the professionalism, caring nature and general helpfulness of every member of staff at Walmer Care Centre since I first contacted them in early January to enquire about urgent short-notice respite care. The gentleman whom I was assisting to arrange the respite care is being
looked after extraordinarily well. The standard of care provided is exceptional. It is clear that everyone who works there, from the carers and senior carer to the deputy manager and manager, are naturally caring people who are committed to doing the best job possible for their residents, and take a genuine interest in each individual resident. It is the people who work there who really make this place what it is. Thank you to you all.

My father-in-law has been at Walmer Care Centre for nearly a year. There is such a homely warm environment and visitors are welcomed at any time. The care he receives is done with compassion, kindness and respect. We know that we can trust the staff to do the best for him and manage his difficulties
as his dementia progresses. Staff are always available to listen to any concerns or worries and keep us informed of any changes needed regarding the care plan. We feel each person is treated as an individual and care is thoughtfully given to respect what's best personally.
As a family, we cannot praise the staff enough for their patience and commitment to care in a thoughtful, kindly way.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Walmer Care Centre.

At Carleton Lodge we always get a sense of a happy crew, plenty of smiles and a true sense of relationship with the staff. There's a high level of care, compassion and concern for all of their residents. The staff really go above and beyond to ensure that residents are treated as individuals and create
a warm, kind and caring environment for all residents and visitors. The range of activities in the weekly update reveal a wide range of enjoyable events and activities for everyone to enjoy. My wife could not be better cared for. Thank you!

We as a family are very pleased with the care of our Mother, the staff are very friendly, helpful, and caring towards residents and family members, and nothing is too much trouble. I couldn’t be happier with the care that Mum has received at Walmer Care Centre. She settled straight in, better than we could ever have imagined and is very content there. Mum always looks happy and relaxed, she particularly loves the sea views, watching the changing weather, the sunsets and sunrises.
There’s
a great variety of weekly activities that Mum enjoys. Everyone is treated as individuals with their own likes, dislikes and preferences. The staff are all so kind, friendly and helpful. I have to mention the special care that is taken to celebrate events like Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries and Mother’s Day. Our Mother’s Day tea today was wonderful! We are very pleased that Mum is settled in such a lovely environment which suits her so well. This gives us peace of mind knowing that she is safe and happy in your care.

I have nothing but praise for the team at Walmer Care Centre. Since Mum moved in there in October, the care and kindness shown to her has been second to none. I have been surprised by how quickly Mum has settled in, and I attribute this to the active engagement of the staff to make each day a fun one.
I am able to visit whenever I like and also bring in my dog (who thoroughly enjoys the attention and food he gets from the other residents!) and importantly I am kept fully informed of all changes and incidents affecting my Mum. I feel comfortable asking questions and any concerns are quickly resolved. A great team!

I started as a health care assistant straight from college in 2003. I am currently in my 14th year with the home. I worked at the Lodge until 2007 when Nicholas James purchased the Lodge and Mead which make up Walmer Care Centre. I gradually progressed within the homes to senior, Deputy and Registered Manager. I have NVQ Levels 2, 3 & 4 and my Registered Manager Award; I am currently doing my QCF 5 to help keep my knowledge fresh and up to date.
