Every time I have visited the home, I am always made very welcome, and I am happy with the care that is provided. I feel she is happy there as they do try and find suitable entertainment for their residents, particularly music to which she always taps her feet. One of the carers has arranged for me
to receive video calls from her, so I can see her whilst the pandemic is still preventing me from actually seeing her; when I am unable to see her in the Pod.

Reply from Elaine Cappaert, Home Manager at Shakti Lodge

Thank you so much, Lena, it is always lovely to hear that our residents and their families are happy.

I think the safe pod is excellent for seeing your parent. It's been a long time in lockdown for them, so being safe to see them is a way forward.

Reply from Elaine Cappaert, Home Manager at Shakti Lodge

Thank you for your review. The Safe pod has been a great success. We now have our own Safe pod, which we are due to start making appointments for. We will be in contact very soon.

My husband was admitted to Shakti Lodge on 12th February 2020. He seems to be very happy living there although he doesn't know where he is.
I am very pleased with the care and attention he has received since his admission. I must stress how well I have been treated by all the staff. I always feel welcome.
It is so important on leaving to know he is being well cared for. I am always kept in touch by phone when there is any change and my questions are answered.

I cannot thank the staff at Shakti Lodge enough for their care of our mother/nan. They made her so happy for the year she was with them and showed so much love and kindness during her time there. With so many horror stories about care homes I would have no hesitation in recommending this care home.
Thank you again to all of the staff from the Caton family.

I have already recommended this home to a friend whose mother had dementia. Unfortunately, my friend died with cancer, but am pleased that her Mum is here at Shakti Lodge, Dartford, knowing she is being looked after so well. Personally, it took 13 residential homes for me to see the right place for
my Mum. She has now been here 6 years and there has never been a time I have felt she needed to change.

I think Shakti Lodge is a nice, warm and comfortable environment. Quite homely with a lovely garden. The only thing I have found a bit upsetting is when I find lots of clothing, including underwear in my Mum's room. Her clothing is all clearly marked and I wouldn't want her to be wearing someone else's
knickers or any other items. Also, finding other people in her clothes. I understand times get busy but that's not really an excuse when items are marked.

Reply from Elaine Cappaert, Home Manager at Shakti Lodge

Thank you for your kind comments. I will investigate the issue of misplaced items of clothing and monitor, however should this happen again please do let me know straight away.

It took a long time to get my mum into a home and Shakti Lodge was one of the last I saw. She has only been in there a month but so far I am very happy with the level of care she gets. She has plenty of stimulation and has enjoyed being around others.
I feel she has become less depressed because she
has people to look out for her and keep her company more than when she was at home. Long may this continue.

Shakti Lodge manager went to Wolverhampton to assess Mom prior to her joining them. This gave her confidence and immediately she felt part of a community. Food is excellent - home cooked. Events eg Remembrance Sunday, Diwali, Halloween are celebrated residents enjoy these, so do relatives who are also
invited. Contact with myself is excellent, staff speak freely and honestly so helping me to enjoy quality time with Mom. Positivity/care and humour make this a real home for everyone.

Having settled my Aunt at Shakti Lodge earlier in the year, I was so fortunate to find a vacancy for my Dad too, both suffering Alzheimer's and dementia. The staff have such compassion and kindness, nothing is too much trouble for either the residents or their families. A bright, fresh and homely atmosphere,
with regular activities that families can join in to make new memories from an otherwise difficult time in the resident's lives.

Congratulations on receiving a 5* rating for food safety and hygiene practices, and from what I've witnessed meals are tasty, attractive and well balanced.

My brother has been a resident in Shakti Lodge for almost two years and as I live in Southern Ireland, my visits to him are limited. When I do visit him, all of the staff and management seem to have a good rapport with him and are always ready to help me if I need news about what is going on. I am
very happy with the way my brother is treated.

My father moved into Shakti Lodge Care Home in Dartford, Kent in February 2013 and lived here until his death in March 2017. We felt that we were very fortunate in finding a place there. He always said that he was very content there and enjoyed all the weekly activities, including the keep fit sessions.
He valued the time that staff spent with him every day and their friendship. He also said that the food was 'excellent'. He valued the privacy of his own room and often thanked the cleaning staff for keeping it tidy.
At night he slept well on a comfortable bed and was able to keep fully up to date regarding the news and sports on his television. He spent many happy hours in the lounge with other residents and in the summer, would often sit out in the well-appointed garden reading his paper or tackling puzzle books. His bedroom window looked out onto the main road and he often watched the world go by.

Overall, my father was very grateful for the time he spent at the Lodge and wished to be remembered to them in future years by means of a new garden bench.

Thank you very much, Chris for this review for Shakti Lodge. The bench that you have donated is very much appreciated by other residents and staff and always remind us of Mr Ridgewell late years, his smile and lovely personality.

When visiting Shakti Lodge, the staff are always very welcoming and tell my friend that I have arrived. We find a nice comfortable seat to sit and have a chat, and a cup of tea is always offered. All the residents are very well cared for and if any of them are distressed there is always a carer on hand
to reassure them until they feel calm again. If I am there at meal times, the food looks very appetising and well presented. There are various activities which most of the residents take part in and enjoy. I certainly would recommend Shakti Lodge to anyone if asked.

Shakti Lodge is really a home from home. The staff treat the residents with the utmost tenderness and respect and obviously care a great deal. My family are delighted with this brilliant home and have every confidence in the way it is run and managed. There are a range of activities for the residents
and the musical afternoons are especially enjoyable. We are so pleased we chose this home to care for my Dad. Thank you to all staff who make this place feel so special.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.443)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.443) out of 10 for Shakti Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.843 for Shakti Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (59 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 70 Ratings = 4.843

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Shakti Lodge is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 26 registered maximum number of service users is 5.2, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
