Overall I am very happy with the care my husband receives. Staff and management are friendly and approachable. Rooms are kept clean and tidy but toilets could do with a bit of updating. There are regular activities and residents are encouraged to take part. The food is good and my husband, who is reluctant
to eat and drink at times, is given plenty of special treats to help keep him interested in food. All in all a homely atmosphere.

Oakfield House is very well run by the manager and deputy. All staff are very friendly and obliging nothing is too much trouble. The food is excellent and activities fun, with entertainment regularly organised by local singers and musicians. Rooms are clean and comfortable, could be modernised along
with toilet and sink.

My mum's first Christmas in the care home. All staff made this a special time for the residents. Lots of activities, lovely lights, trees and decorations, even a real donkey visiting as well as the local school children singing carols. The photo of my mum with the donkey, will be treasured.
I had
Christmas dinner at the care home with my mum and the other residents. A splendid meal which by the look of empty plates, everyone enjoyed. Even a glass of wine! Thank you all.

Dad moved into Oakfield in September 22, as he was struggling to manage in his own home. He was very apprehensive about moving to a care home. He settled quickly, due to the friendliness and understanding shown by all the staff. He was always treated with dignity and respect. The staff always made us
feel welcome when we visited, and it was very clear that he had forged meaningful relationships with the staff.
The home responded swiftly to his changing needs. Sadly, he suddenly became acutely unwell. He spent his last few days of life at the home. As a family, the staff supported us through this difficult time with compassion and empathy. Nothing was too much trouble, and we will be always grateful for the care dad received at Oakfield.

My hundred-year-old mother spent the final few months of her life here. Throughout that time, she was treated with kindness, respect, consideration and understanding by all the staff. Whenever she needed assistance, a carer arrived very promptly. The staff were all very friendly and cheerful and took
the time to get to know my mum and talk to her. She had a very nice, spacious room that was in very good decorative order and was warm and comfortable. The whole of the home that I saw, including the lounges and dining room, were all very clean and comfortable. The outside area was well-maintained and attractive. I always felt welcome by the staff whenever I visited, and as next of kin, I felt that my communication with the manager and her staff was very good. It was a great comfort to me knowing that she was so well looked after. I strongly recommend the home based on my experience.

My aunt and uncle have been residing in Oakfield House for a couple of years, and I have nothing but praise for their care.
I visit regularly and am always welcomed with a smile and an update on how they are and where they are.
The managers are excellent at spotting if they aren't well, seek medical
advice quickly, and will fight to get them the best care.
Staff are very friendly and knowledgeable and treat the patients with kindness and dignity.
A lovely lady spends a couple of hours each day chatting with the residents, playing games, cooking, and organising arts and crafts activities, providing all-important stimulation.
I have no regrets about placing my family at Oakfield House and have recommended it to many, and I would like to thank the managers and staff for their amazing work.

My elderly mother moved care homes to Oakfield House as she needed more nursing care. On arrival, we were greeted and shown around by a staff member. Their natural warmth and care and gentle actions with mum immediately put my mind at rest knowing mum would be well looked after and would form a new
relationship with confidence in her care, staff were attentive to her needs, and family visitors were also treated well and looked after in this difficult time for mum as her health deteriorated and sadly passed away, nothing was too much for the staff. The managers run a happy family environment with an outstanding team of dedicated staff members, we were like a family. The word 'care' is most definitely the right descriptive word that is so actively used. Our family were so pleased that we chose Oakfield for mum, as we know her last months were happy ones, with caring people around her, we thank all staff for everything you did for mum and would recommend Oakfield without any doubt.

Manager has tried exceptionally hard to accommodate the changing needs of my relative. Staff have accompanied my relative to hospital appointments when I have been unable to. The appointment of an activities coordinator is essential so that residents have opportunities to be occupied more during the
day. Very friendly atmosphere and management/carers very approachable.

Reply from Nicola Cross, Manager at Oakfield House

Thank you for leaving us a review. We employed an activities coordinator at the beginning of August, however the enhanced DBS check which is a requirement in care is taking a lot longer than usual to process. We are very much hoping she will be able to commence her role in the next few weeks. We have still held our weekly exercise class, arts and crafts class, Bingo and music sessions from our independent entertainers.

Without exception the carers and staff are outstanding. They treated me with friendliness and respect and I felt very cared for after leaving hospital and before returning to my own home. I was also heartened that during the say no one was left lonely in their rooms, there was always a cheer word for
everyone.

When we have an issue staff are very helpful to address the matter. Dad needs more persuasion to shower more often. Noticed his body odour is quite strong at times and his commode needs emptying, As nearly always when we visit we notice it hasn't been emptied. Staff are amazing and Dad is very happy
but just a few points need addressing.

Excellent Management Team and Staff. My mum has advanced Alzheimer’s and I have complete confidence that she has the very best of care. I am kept fully informed of her daily activities and fully consulted on various aspects of her care as her needs change. Her care is tailored to her specific needs.
The home manager and deputy are very approachable and open and I don’t think there is anything that I couldn’t discuss with them. The home have been exceptional during the pandemic, facilitating visits/video calls in line with government guidelines. Rooms are clean, light and modern. The menu is varied, nutritious and tasty. Lovely homely atmosphere. Most of the staff have been employed for many years, and are very experienced, happy and cheerful. Before moving my mum to Oakfield House I visited many other homes but once I walked through the door at Oakfield House I immediately knew it was the right place for my dear mum. She is happy and very settled.
I can highly recommend Oakfield House.

The staff at Oakfield House are very pleasant. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The managers are really lovely people. They sport out all our enquiries regarding my father. My father is very happy at Oakfield and really likes all the carers. He is treated with dignity and care at all times. My
father recently became rather ill requiring paramedics. The staff were so kind and sympathetic. I could not ask for better care for my father.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (9.045)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (9.045) out of 10 for Oakfield House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.712 for Oakfield House is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 59 Ratings = 4.712

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.333 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Oakfield House is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 registered maximum number of service users is 6. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 6 = 0.833

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
