Pilgrims View care home, located in the small village of Snodland near West Malling, is a care facility providing residential care for older people living with dementia.

Pilgrims View provides a wealth of support services for people living with dementia, with the aim of not just providing care and comfort, but also a new, positive and more engaging stage in their lives. The team of qualified and attentive staff provide 24-hour person-centred dementia care.

The care home has 40 bedrooms available to Kent and Medway residents. The rooms are light and airy and decorated individually to provide comfort and independence, with colour schemes chosen by residents.

At the heart of Pilgrims View is its philosophy of care, The Eden Alternative, where social interaction and engagement are encouraged and boredom is eradicated by addressing the three plagues of loneliness, helplessness and boredom within the home.

Sadly I have had to place my one hundred year old mother in the care of Pilgrims View after having her live with us for twenty years. This was such a difficult decision. I have been so pleased with the care she has received. The staff are amazing and they cannot do enough for my Mum. They let me know
straight away when there are concerns or changes in her care. They are compassionate, caring and do their very best for the residents. I feel very confident that my Mum is in the best place to meet her needs.

Pilgrims View is a lovely, happy place which provides a home from home experience to its residents. Covid-19 has been an extremely difficult time for everyone but I knew that mum was being very looked after by a lovely abd caring team who have worked extremely hard to ensure there was as much contact
as possible with loved ones and their families. The home has an excellent Activities coordinator and there is always something going on to keep the residents entertained. There is no shortage of tasty things to eat and the meals provided are tasty and full of goodness catering for all tastes. My mum is happy, content and all her needs are met. I am glad I made the right choice and chose Pilgrims View.

It was extremely daunting when I had to make the decision that my brother needed twenty four seven care with his dementia. Having made the decision to look around Pilgrims View I was greeted by staff with a genuine and caring concern. My brother was involved in every aspect of the visit. It was no trouble
how small or large my concerns, the staff were more than willing to help ease my mind. My brother has been a resident now for nearly three years. Best decision I made. The care he receives is excellent, he is happy and is able to join in activities as and when he wishes and is always encouraged to do so. Myself and family are always welcomed with a smile. All medical aspects are cared for and I am kept informed continually. Pilgrims View is like home from home, with a very safe and pleasant atmosphere where residents and family are welcomed.

Since my dad was taken into care, the staff at Pilgrim's View have made it clear from their actions, professionalism and communication with me, that this was the best move I could have hoped for. They genuinely care for each and every resident and interact with them on a personal level, rather than
just treating this as a job. It's safe to say that during the previous Covid-19 lockdowns this has not been an easy time for any care home. My dad caught Covid-19 a few months back and I wasn't able to visit him. I called every day and was given a detailed update of his condition and was left knowing each time that he was in the best hands. Thankfully he got through it and that is testimony to how well looked after he is. I also love to see the Facebook updates with videos' and pictures showing me how well dad is doing. I've had a lot of experience with care homes through my previous employment and I must say, I am so happy that dad has found a place like this to call home.

On entry to the home, my wife was immediately made to feel part of the community with all her needs catered for. She rapidly formed a trusting relationship with many of the staff and quickly integrated with other residents. The home has a very happy feel about it and I cannot praise highly enough the
attention, compassion and understanding that both my wife and I received from all grades of staff. They are an exceptional team of carers and their task has not been made any easier by the Covid restrictions but they have risen to the challenge and kept all residents safe.

When we viewed Pilgrims View for my Nan, we felt this would be the best place for her, warm, friendly and caring. My nan has been resident here for almost two years now and she is very well looked after and whenever I ring especially during the Covid 19 situation to find out how she is I am always updated

The staff have been extremely good. They fully understand dementia and have been doing all they can to keep things as normal as possible during the Covid-19 lockdown. I am sure my mother feels at home, happy and safe. It was good to know all that was going on when it was not possible for me to be there.
The efforts of the staff are very appreciated. I now have a time when I can visit my mother, although this will not be like a normal visit it will be good to see her.

My aunt has been a resident here for the past four months. She was placed here by social services and I had little say in the placement. I had not viewed the home prior to my aunt being placed here and so was apprehensive, due to the fact that I had seen numerous other homes that I had viewed for my
aunt and also for my mum a few years before, so I was very aware that some homes were, in my opinion, poorly managed and residents were neglected and badly treated. I needn't have worried.
I have visited regularly on different days and at different times and have spent a lot of time observing the management, carers, entertainment and running of the home and how the residents are treated and feel that now is the right time to share my views. I can honestly say that I am very impressed with everything and know that my aunt (and the other residents) could not be better cared for anywhere else. I would be the first to complain if I was unhappy with anything but cannot fault anything.

We chose it predominantly because, having visited, the staff at Pilgrims View were all so very lovely. We were so pleased that Pilgrims View could take her for us - definitely the best choice we could have made. Wish she could have spent her last days with them instead of in a hospital.

My 94-year-old father recently had a weeks respite care at Pilgrims View, whilst my brother and wife who care for him had a well deserved holiday. The staff were really amazing and attentive to Dads needs. He hasn't stopped talking about the lovely ladies and the food. We are thinking about permanent
care for my dad and this will definitely be our first choice.
If I could recommend any improvements it would only be to make the home cosier and smell a bit fresher (I'm sure all care homes probably have that smell).
A few sofas and cushions, as well as the individual chairs, would be lovely.
Pictures on the walls and in the bedrooms, prettier tablecloths and flowers on the tables, just a more home from home feel would be perfect.
But as a family, we seriously cannot fault the care of our father in the home.

I am very happy with the care and support my mother receives from the staff. They are all very kind. Whilst I appreciate written records need to be done, I wonder if sometimes these could be scaled back, so more time could actually be spent interacting with residents.

On the very 1st day visiting Pilgrim's View, we were met by friendly and very caring staff. My Mother entered Pilgrim's View in September 2015. The care my Mum received was very personal to her. We were encouraged to visit whenever we liked. The staff, from domestic to management, attend to Mum's needs
with kindness and compassion. As Mum's illness progressed we visited daily and played a big role in her care, this was very much encouraged. The decision to place our Mum into residential care was not an easy one but the wonderful staff made the transition into care easier for Mum and the family. I have recommended Pilgrim's View on many occasions. We found Pilgrim's View to be more like a big family and my Mum became part of that and for the care, they gave her we will be forever grateful.

My Mother has been at Pilgrims View for 3 years as her Alzheimers has progressively made her less able to do things. I chose Pilgrims View originally as it was the best home I visited based on multiple, random visits. I don't regret the choice and feel the staff try their best with my Mum's condition.
Her dementia is my main concern but Pilgrims View staff are one thing I generally don't have concerns with.

Initially, the staff were very welcoming and eager to show me and my siblings around the home, this was done in depth. Choice and variety of food was good, assistance given to residents when needed to eat. Staff were always polite and cheery, assisting wherever need to make sure residents were comfortable
and happy, nothing too much trouble. Residents offered regular drinks, snacks etc. The rooms were well furnished, although some were rather dark, and residents belongings were always kept tidy and clothes regularly washed and ironed. Act6ivities were available and anyone could join in if wanted to. Altogether a well run and happy home.

All staff are very patient and caring. Time is taken to get to know what pleases/displeases each individual resident. Residents are allowed to make their own choices and are assisted if they have difficulties. After visiting I come away happy in the knowledge that my husband is being well cared for.

Having made a comparison to the local care home that my mother resided at for only 10months, Pilgrims View is what you would expect. It's a hard job caring for someone suffering from dementia, these guys do a sterling job.
Finally, they do not prescribe antipsychotic medication to their patients,
so rest assured they live their life out naturally.

My husband was very reluctant to stay in any care home so that I could have a holiday. My first impressions of Pilgrims View was that there was a very calming, caring and warm feel to the home and the residents were continually checked and chattered to. The department manager was very helpful and discussed
all aspects of caring for my husband.


The safety and security of residents were excellent which is very important for a person with mixed dementia.


I wouldn't hesitate asking you to look after my husband again.

My dad was very well looked after, he used to love to chat with the staff and was very happy there. He enjoyed the excellent food that was provided. It was a pleasure to visit him there. The staff were always friendly and helpful.
