This is a great care home. My Dad is in the home, he is enjoying his time there, and is well looked after. There is always something going on from bingo to singers. The meals are lovely, and there is plenty of variety. The staff are wonderful, they work very hard, and the home is kept clean.

My Nan stayed at The Vale for approx 15 months and I think the care she received was very good. When I visited I was made to feel welcome and that it was very much Nan's home. The carers were helpful and accommodating even though at times it seemed quite chaotic! The appearance of The Vale is a little
on the shabby side but don't be put off by this, it felt homely and not at all clinical. The carers treated Nan in the same way we did, with encouragement and reassuring her she was OK. This was both a comfort to her but also us. I would have no doubt in recommending The Vale to others.

Our welcome at The Vale has always been very friendly and warm. The staff are very caring and patient and professional. Our Aunt's room is very nice and comfortable, there is a general, pleasant atmosphere and cleanliness. As a whole we consider our Aunt is being cared for well, generally, her needs
are being met. To me, The Vale sometimes appears rather overcrowded with people sat everywhere, even in the corridor. We have been sometimes and it appears noisy.

As relatives, we have always been made very welcome. Sometimes it is very frustrating when I try and ring up because the phone keeps cutting out.

The staff there are so lovely, welcoming and friendly. We have not seen Mum as happy for years as she was at The Vale. She loved it there.
The manager and her deputy are amazing and they get to know them individually and what works for each of them to make them happy.
We can’t thank them enough
for getting to know her so well and being able to help her so much. We have some amazing photos of Mum joining in with the great activities. The manager and team certainly have created a loving place there.

The staff are hard working and I admire them for the job they do. I find them friendly and polite. I now have peace of mind that my mother is safe and has the level of care that I could no longer provide. I visit mum 2-3 times a week and have gotten to know the staff, so I have confidence in their abilities
- if mum's not well, they call the doctor (antibiotics this month). If her teeth go missing, they contact the dentist.

The Vale provides a lot of stimulation for the residents both on a personal level or group. The food is imaginative and good, both these things are important to my mother as she enjoys both. She is content at The Vale which makes me happy.

Reply from Cem Osman, Assistant to Director of Care at The Vale Care Home

The Vale is a large house, formerly the parsonage, and retains much if its original features. Management and staff are dedicated to the well-being of our residents and treat them with the uppermost dignity and respect and is the main priority of The Vale. We have a ‘Good’ rating for both Caring and Well-Led service, and an overall home rating of “Good” with CQC.

Some of our larger bedrooms have had the addition of en suite facilities; we continue to make improvements each year as suitable bedrooms become vacant for upgrades. All bedrooms without en suite facilities are very close to a large bathroom with bath hoist for those requiring aid. Our garden has a large patio and grassed area; residents tend to use the patio most often, therefore, plans are in place to extend this area.

Current Review Score: 9.4 (9.417)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.4 (9.417) out of 10 for The Vale Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.817 for The Vale Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.817

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.6 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Vale Care Home is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 registered maximum number of service users is 5.6, which has been reached with 6 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
