Grafton Lodge is a Care Home in Strood, Rochester that provides care to the elderly and those with dementia. Their goal is to provide a homely and happy environment and to promote the highest standards of care through their team of dedicated carers.

The home is based in a large, double story detached house that is able to provide care for up to 22 residents. The bedrooms are tastefully decorated and many are equipped with en-suite facilities. A lift is available for access to the first floor along with a stair-lift. There is a large-sized main lounge which is split into two different themed areas and there is also an additional room known as the ‘garden room’ which provides an alternative environment for relaxing. They have recently installed a large-sized mural of a 1950s post-office which serves as a pleasant trip down memory lane for residents when they walk past it. The residents are able to benefit from the use of the garden area with its own tables and chairs which can serve as a pleasing environment to meet with friends and family.

Staff feel very strongly about treating residents with the respect and dignity they deserve. The team are extremely fortunate to have their own in-house well-being coordinator who is constantly generating great ideas to help stimulate and entertain guests. Recent examples include art pieces made from Autumn leaves, dancing, making and painting Christmas decorations and having an in-house spa day. There is also a weekly quiz which many of the residents look forward to. The home is also fortunate to have a great team of carers who are very dedicated and passionate about their work with the residents. They will also frequently think 'outside the box' and find different ways to stimulate residents

I feel very blessed to have found this little gem of a home. It really is home from home and the staff do actually 'Care'!
You feel their warmth as soon as you walk through the door.
My Dad initially went there, and more recently my mum is there too!
They are constantly cared for with lovely food
and lots of activities.
I do not think you will find another care home as amazing as this one!

I have recently been introduced to care homes since my Mum came into full-time care this year. And since coming here l am safe in the knowledge that Mum is receiving the best possible care.
The whole team are superb and recommend this place to anyone looking for peace of mind and good care.

In September 2023 my husband was cared for at Grafton Lodge for 2 weeks respite. This was his 3rd session of respite care in 2023.
I was particularly pleased that on arrival and departure we were helped by staff to and from the car which I found most useful and helped me begin 'my respite from caring'
the moment that I left Grafton; because I was confident that he would receive competent care throughout his stay.
The friendly greetings from staff were so encouraging and the management team, although extremely busy, took time to reassure me and check medication thoroughly as they knew that I would be unable to visit.
The care and support is so obvious; a relaxed approach to care but within high standards.
Well done for achieving this.
I can only say that I am looking forward to being able to use this respite service regularly in order to enable me to continue my long-term care for my husband.
Thank you.

My brother moved to Grafton in August for respite and is now a resident. I can not speak highly enough about all of the amazing staff, the care he has received has been wonderful. The staff treat residents with care and compassion and with dignity and respect, always. There is a real homely feel at
Grafton and visitors are made to feel welcome at all times.

Mum has been suffering with Vascular Dementia since 2018, after a fall at home in late August 2023 she was admitted to hospital for three and a half weeks, as a result she lost her mobility and weight. Mum joined Grafton Lodge on respite care from 20/09/23. At this time a plan was agreed with management
to address her needs after discharge from Medway Hospital. I looked at many places for Mum and as soon as I walked in you could feel the homeliness. Residents are encouraged to participate in activities each day, Mum has benefitted from this. When we visit she is always chatty, cheerful and pleased to see us; a sure sign she is happy and content. Mum came to Grafton Lodge in very poor health, the last four months the constant care, routine and kindness all the staff showed to her, we are very confident that our Mum/Nan is in safe loving hands. We are blessed to have Mum cared for here by the management and family at Grafton Lodge, it is truly a wonderful establishment, which is highly recommended.

Many thanks to all the staff at Grafton Lodge for their kindness and consideration in the caring of my dear dad who has sadly now passed. We could not have asked for better treatment at a time when Dad was so immobile and vulnerable. We are truly grateful to you all!

I couldn’t have wished for a more perfect place for my mum. The staff are knowledgeable and supportive, they are friendly and treat my mum like a lady. I would recommend Grafton Lodge to anyone, the care is outstanding, considering I looked at other places and there were no comparison to Grafton Lodge,
I’ve told my friends and family all about the fantastic place and hope it will keep up the standards that I have received since my mum has been a resident.

Throughout my sister’s stay, me and all my family were impressed with the level of care provided at Grafton Lodge. When my sister arrived in March, she was in very poor health. However, with the constant care, routine and kindness all the staff showed her, my family were confident that my sister was
in safe, loving hands. Thank you for giving us our sister back and another big thanks to all the carers for being so kind, happy and friendly when we came to visit.

Caring and kind. Created a real cosy home environment for their residents. Home-made food, clean rooms, hot baths with music and candles, activities, permanent carers that residents come to recognise and know and a social life within the home. My aunt was treated with respect and dignity here. A gem
in the middle of Strood. A really welcoming team, who not only helped my auntie to try and settle but also put our whole family at ease. Grateful for this wonderful place. Management really knows their stuff and every rule is followed to ensure the best care.

The love and care that the manager and whole family at Grafton Lodge showed our aunt was truly wonderful. We were blessed to have had her cared for there. We looked at many places for our aunt as we wanted a home, not just a room and as soon as we walked in you could feel the homeliness. Thank you all.

Staff are always friendly, even when under pressure. Look after our mum really well, even liquidise her food and feed her as she can't. Birthdays are always celebrated with beautiful cakes. Thank you to all staff.

Mum has been a resident of Grafton Lodge since July 2016. She has increased dementia over the years and Grafton Lodge staff have met those needs with dignity and care. Mum loved the activities when she could go down and was always cheerful and chatty; a sure sign she was happy and content. Over the
last 18 months, Mum (nearing 100 years) lost much mobility and has been confined to her bed. She is always well cared for and clean. The staff here have been exceptional and I thank them all so much for looking after Mum in her twilight years. Grafton Lodge is highly recommended.

I cannot express how happy I am with the care offered to my mother. At a time when I could not offer the 24/7 care she needed, the home replaced me. The love, care, empathy, consideration and most of all respect given to my mum is amazing. I can't thank you all enough.

Dad was at Grafton Lodge for just over 2 1/2 years. Residents are encouraged to treat it like 'home'. Dad loved his food and was thrilled when some of his favourite dishes were made especially for him. It is hard to review the last year due to covid restrictions but during that time the staff were helpful
and kept me informed about dad's care. He was encouraged to meet me in the garden, whilst following Covid restrictions. During lockdown, I had a phone conversation with a new member of staff who was tasked with the resident's social wellbeing and I felt dad was encouraged to join in more activities. During Dad's last few weeks there, the staff were always knowledgeable, professional and courteous towards us whilst being supportive too. The kept us very up to date with Dad's condition and enabled video calls between Dad and myself. During these calls, I could see that they were respectful and kind towards Dad. Grafton Lodge is like a family home.

There is always a warm welcome whenever we visit and an open, friendly feel. The staff are always helpful and go that extra mile to treat the residents as individuals. The home is pleasantly decorated and a varied activities programme is provided. The Facebook videos and photos are a great way for us
to keep in touch. We are kept well informed and have always found the staff and management to be available and approachable. We feel fortunate that our relative is at home here.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.824)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.824) out of 10 for Grafton Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.924 for Grafton Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (97 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 105 Ratings = 4.924

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Grafton Lodge is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 22 registered maximum number of service users is 4.4, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
