Rochester Care Home has created a relaxed and homely environment for all residents.

The building is single-storey and purpose-built with four areas. Each area had 14 bedrooms around a lounge/diner. Residents are welcome to join in activities in any of the areas. There’s plenty of space to sit outside at Rochester – residents have a choice of gardens and courtyards to enjoy.

CQC has given Rochester a rating of ‘Good’ (March 2017).

There are 56 bedrooms at Rochester. Many of the bedrooms look out or have direct access to one of the gardens.

All rooms have en-suites or washbasins in the room. The rooms without an en-suite have accessible shower rooms and bathrooms nearby.

Each bedroom’s front door is a different colour, with a door knocker, which makes it more recognisable. Residents are encouraged to personalise their rooms.

Personal possessions help residents feel at home, and provide extra stimulation and time for reminiscence. They also give staff an important understanding of a resident’s personality, history and what’s important to them.

Trips out include the garden centre, and even the pub on occasion, if that’s what residents choose to do that day.

Animals are always really popular visitors at Rochester. As well as therapy dogs, they have larger four-legged friends in. On a sunny day, the garden is a great spot for residents to have an ice cream, followed by cuddles with a Shetland pony or a donkey!

Rochester has church visits every week and often have local schoolchildren coming into sing. A local consultant and his family come and volunteer.

We visited our aunt for the first time since she moved into Rochester Care home. We found her to be among other guests and she appeared happy and well cared for. The ambience of the home was apparent.
Staff were approachable, helpful and attentive to the residents and friendly. We felt she was safe
there.

The manager and staff are all completely dedicated to their jobs. They are very helpful and accommodating with regards to residence and their families. The home is very clean and no nasty smells. My mother is always well presented and cared for.

Based on my visits and communication with the home, dad always seems happy and content. He has been a resident for 3 and a half years, so it means a lot to me that he is looked after so well. He has a few health problems and staff appear very attentive.

My mum has recently moved into Rochester Care Home and so far, me and my wife are extremely pleased with the friendly care staff, the cosy homely feel and how kindly they are treating mum, they involve her in activities and chores which is just what my mum needs. You can tell that the staff genuinely
love their job and those they're caring for.

My dad has dementia and Alzheimer's and my mum is his carer, but my mum had a massive stroke and we needed to put my dad in care. The manager and her staff were amazing, so kind and compassionate. My dad has settled and we think it may be his long term home.

Mum has improved on her wellbeing. Over a year ago when I came she appeared frightened it is really nice to see how she has settled, happy and put on weight. She appears to be engaged in conversation with her family and other residents.

I feel that my mum is extremely happy in her care home, she says that she feels everybody has their arms wrapped around her! That's because the carers quite often do. All of her needs are catered for and I do not have any concerns regarding her welfare.

Very recently my mother moved into the home. She received the warmest of welcomes from staff and management upon her arrival. Staff have shown her much kindness and she seems to have settled. Having been there on 2 occasions at meal times, the food looked good with generous portions being served. Staff
are polite and helpful.

I think all members of staff are very kind and helpful.
The atmosphere in the home is pleasant although I feel that the patients would benefit from more activities and maybe some background gentle music now and then.
This is both soothing and helps stimulate the brain.

My friend feels so safe and secure. She would recommend it to anyone! She was afraid of coming into care and didn't want to lose her independence but has found she has new independence. Staff appear excellent, always busy and engaging with residents and visitors.

My mother lived at Rochester Care Home from July 2018 until March 2019. Her care was exemplary and given by very caring and patient staff. No task was too difficult and always undertaken willingly and with tenderness. The home is clean tidy and welcoming and all the staff are very pleasant. I would

Not only have the staff cared for my mother with kindness and patience they have also shown me the same kind of care.
Sometimes dementia can cause extreme upset to family members all the staff at Rochester Care Home have had time to make sure I'm ok as well as tending to my mum's needs. My mother has
now moved for end of life care and I have visited residents at Rochester and the team continue to show kindness.

Have visited the home 3 times and on each occasion, staff have been very friendly and helpful. Everywhere looks clean and well kept. Residents all seem relaxed and happy.
The friend I know having always said she never wanted to leave her own home is now saying that coming into the home was the best
thing she ever did. She has settled really quickly enjoys the food, the company and the feeling of safety and security.
Only improvements perhaps: chair in a room? The resident is disturbed by checks at night and wakes her up. Not sure if there's a way around this?
