This care home is bustling and alive. The residents mostly eat together and the staff interact with all the residents in a very friendly and polite manner.
Whilst not the family home my mother has lived in for over twenty years, it is a safe, comfortable, welcoming environment where we know our mum
will eat and drink enough, have her medication daily and get company and conversation as much or as little as she wants.

I moved my husband after a poor experience with another home. The difference in my husband is remarkable. He has Alzheimer's and has to be encouraged to do things. Beech Haven Care Home is interested in him. All staff are lovely and engaging. It is beautifully clean, good meals. It is early days still
but I can't fault the care. I feel part of a family and I am so pleased I moved him to Beech Haven.

My mum was a resident at Beech Haven for two years and her life ended at the nursing home in October 2023.
She was always treated with care and respect all the staff were so kind to her and all the residents also to me and my family and friends who visited.
Although the home decor seemed tired and
in need of updating it didn't matter. The residents were well-fed, clean and cared for. I don't really know much about activities, but plenty of photos showing these times.

It's a problem to select the ratings. There are so many aspects related to each point. Care/support depends upon the member of staff involved. Agency carers do a good job but it's difficult for residents with dementia to get used to them. Generally, they do a good job, sometimes under difficult circumstances.
Communication between relatives of residents and nursing staff could be improved. A monthly meeting would be appreciated to learn about the health of residents. Also, occasionally with GP, residents need cash. There isn't a system for paying a specific member of staff and obtaining a receipt.

My mother entered the care home during Covid having had a fall. Very elderly and on end-of-life care. She has now been a resident for three-plus-years and gets the best care I wish for her. The staff are really pleasant and helpful and the surroundings suit my mother's needs.

The staff at Beech Haven Care Home have welcomed my wife which has been enormously helpful to me. She has been a resident for three weeks, so it's early days but as of yet, I have no complaints. I have found all of the staff friendly, helpful and kind.

My brother has a small room but is looked after by a very warm-hearted and kind team.
He does not mix well with the other residents and his communication skills are very poor. Despite this, the staff are very patient with him.

My father is in the care home and it is one of the best care homes I've seen, I've been in a few with my father previously and they were not good. I'm really happy with the care my father is getting now in Beech Haven Care Home. Everyone I have found really cares and takes pride in their work and I
think the manager is doing a wonderful job, especially when I'm sure there's limited budget and has slowly refurbished the place which is really nice.

When my sister and I visited Beech Haven Care Home for the first time, we were made extremely welcome and my sister was treated in a very sympathetic way. In fact, the staff were very quickly on her wavelength. There was a homely feel to the home and an ensuite room was available that was light and
available. She moved in a week later and is settling in well.

My father was a resident for 8-months until he passed away.
Although the home was smaller and more dated than some homes we viewed, it suited my dad perfectly. He had a room with an en-suite on the ground floor.
The simple layout and smaller environment certainly met the needs of dementia sufferers.
Dad enjoyed the small garden and sitting on the deck during the warmer weather. The range of morning activities was well organised, and residents were encouraged to join in. A small group of residents were taken on a boat trip, and I was able to witness the pleasure they got from the outing.
The nursing care provided was excellent, and I was kept fully informed of any medical issues, falls, GP visits via phone, and an online portal.
Dad was fed well, and as visitors, we were always offered hot drinks and biscuits.
The care received by the staff throughout Dad's stay and particularly in his final week; was fantastic.
They really knew my dad as an individual, and we were made welcome 24-hours a day.

Beech Haven feels like home from the minute you walk in. On arrival, the staff are so pleasant, friendly and informative. l was aware of the upbeat and happy atmosphere that the carers were delivering. The residents were enjoying remembering songs of the past and singing with the staff. The atmosphere
was truly caring and sharing. I was impressed. I was touched by the gentle way two carers were helping a lady to go for a walk. My experience here was witnessing caring at its best. Lovely to see.

My father only had a short stay before he passed away. The management could not have done more to make his stay more comfortable - if he needed a piece of equipment, even if they did not have it, they provided it. They could not have been more helpful and considerate. The nursing staff were friendly
and caring. The home was clean and bright and well maintained. I could not have asked for better support for them.

Staff always very pleasant and helpful. Rooms regularly kept clean and tidy.
Everyone appears to be doing their best with the resources provided.
Management very approachable considering the onerous weight of bureaucracy they have to contend with and abide by.
'Extra'
Dementia awareness training
for the most appropriate approach to dementia suffering residents would be beneficial for staff, though this will, inevitably require more financial input from the homeowners.

Beech Haven is always clean, friendly, like a small holiday hotel. The staff are very attentive. There is a garden and a fish pond. After visiting 20 care homes for my mother-in-law Beech Haven was the best for mum to fit in and settle in.

Beech Haven has warm and welcoming staff and has a homely feel. All the residents are cared for in a loving manner with care and attention to their individual needs. I spend a few hours every other week visiting the residents with our therapy dog and spend most of this time talking with the residents.
They all comment on how lovely the staff are and how they love the activities that are put on. This must be so reassuring for the families of the residents to know that their loved ones are being cared for and stimulated with gardening, quizzes etc on a regular basis. What is really nice is to see how all of the rooms cater for them individually with really personal touches so that they feel at home.

What really makes it feel homely is the cleanliness and general care of the building too. There are several spaces that the residents can socialise in and a veranda in a communal garden that they can sit on in the warmer weather.

I have been a resident for respite cares to be in a non-clinical environment. The staff all grades are caring about residents and dignity and self-esteem are treated respectfully. As near a home atmosphere and environment as you can find.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.336)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.336) out of 10 for Beech Haven Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.436 for Beech Haven Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (65 Excellents x 5) + (40 Goods x 4) + (10 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 117 Ratings = 4.436

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Beech Haven Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
