  • The Chestnuts, West Byfleet
The Chestnuts offers residential support and accommodation for up to twenty adults who live with profound and multiple learning disabilities (PMLD), autism, physical disabilities, communication and sensory impairments and complex needs.

Each individual is supported to develop a person-centred plan and health action plan that promotes independence and gives people increased choice and control over their lives.

The Chestnuts is divided into three separate living areas, each with its own lounge and kitchen. The bathrooms, wet rooms and some of the bedrooms have over head track hoists. There is also a lift, making the home fully wheelchair accessible.

There is a spacious garden with a greenhouse and vegetable patch for people to grow their own fruit and vegetables, plus a lovely gazebo which is used all year round to host garden parties and at Christmas it is decorated as Santa’s grotto.

My daughter moved into the chestnuts in April 2022, the staff made my daughter and family very welcome, everyone was so kind, and also very reassuring and of course, as parents, we were worried moving our daughter into a new home. She has been there eight months now and has settled in so well. The staff
are all very caring and liaise with us on her care and her routine. Our daughter eats really well and has put on weight. She has also become very vocal which is wonderful to hear.
She has been seen by the community physio team and has an exercise plan in place. She has been also able to access the hydrotherapy pool at Epsom, which she loves. At the Chestnuts, there are lots of activities for the residents to join in with including trips out and parties.

My husband is very well cared for and I’m very grateful to the staff for their care, love and support towards him. The staff reassure me and they are so open to answer any of my questions. The team has included me and given me an update regarding my husband, it been a tough and challenging year of Covid19
for everyone. I really appreciate the staff for their special and experienced care. Thank you so much to all.

I can’t thank all the dedicated staff at The Chestnuts enough for providing my sister a loving and comfortable home. She’s always happy and cared for to the highest standards.
It’s been such a difficult time for everyone, yet the lovely staff answer my calls every day and even set up video calls.
They're always on hand to answer any worries I might have with regards to the current situation. It is so obvious to me that their main priority is keeping all the residents safe during these worrying time. I thank you all so much, my whole family are so grateful.

All the carers are thoughtful and kind and treat the residents as if they were members of there own family. During the lockdown they have exceeded all expectations to us they are all unsung heroes. I would highly recommend this home. My only grievance is that it is far from where I live but don't think
I would have got the kind of care closer to home.

Beginning, during and now re-covid.
As a sister of one of the residents, I have been nothing but impressed and reassured through these uncertain times that my sister has been very much cared for, and the correct and very disciplined measures have been kept, and still are.
I have had a few video calls
and can see my sister has been and continues to be very well looked after, she's happy and very comfortable living in Chestnuts, she's well monitored when not feeling 100% and the staff do all they can to make her smile and feel comfortable.
I'm very pleased they have helped us keep contact through regular video calls, and we get to see each other.

The Chestnuts is a lovely place for your family member to live.
Every morning he is given a shower and a shave, his medication is given on time, the staff are very friendly and talk to the residents, the food is excellent, everyone is clean and the home smells pleasant.
Residents do get taken out
regularly and have a holiday every year.
There are weekly activities and the residents are taken to their day centres.
A lovely place.

The Chestnuts is a delightful and happy home, the care team always appears cheerful and ready to assist. I fully understand that the personal safety and security of residents is first priority, however, the current arrangements make it extremely difficult for visiting parents and family to obtain access
to the home which is my only complaint.
