Glendale in Walton-On-Thames is operated by Anchor and provides residential and dementia care for up to 61 customers in homely and comfortable single ensuite rooms.

The care team ensures customers’ health and care needs are met throughout their time at Glendale through a detailed care plan which is put together with input from loved ones.

Staff receive regular training to ensure their approach to care reflects best practice and they strive to get to know customers properly and build strong relationships to provide the highest levels of care. Meals are cooked freshly on site to each residents' dietary requirements and tastes, with snacks also provided every day.

Anchor operates on a not-for-profit basis, reinvesting funds made back into its retirement properties and care homes to ensure its standards exceed customers’ expectations.

The staff are excellent, caring and always go above and beyond. The accommodation is wonderful. My brother always looks well cared for. The staff are supportive in every way possible. He is always entertained with activities and games, every day of the week. My brother says the food is excellent. I
have peace of mind knowing he's so well looked after and safe.

My mum recently passed away. She had only been at Glendale for four months, however, from our very first visit, we were thoroughly impressed with the home and the carers. From the initial greeting, the receptionists were so cheerful and couldn't do enough to please us and we always received a welcome
greeting. For the short time Mum was at Glendale, she received wonderful care and all her needs were met by the carers, cleaners and housekeeping. All the carers we met were compassionate and friendly. We received regular calls to update us with any of Mum's medical needs and they kept us fully informed. Thank you to all the hardworking staff at Glendale, your care is appreciated.

My mother died earlier this month after fifteen months at Glendale. The care she received was usually good and sometimes excellent. On the day my mother died, team leaders and carers were extremely kind, compassionate and respectful. Overall, however, my view of Glendale has been tarnished by poor leadership,
management and communication; poor information sharing, misunderstandings, lack of compassion in face-to-face meetings and unanswered emails when clarification was sought. My mother died on a Sunday, and the staff that day were wonderful, however, in the days that followed we received no message of condolence from managers - disgraceful.

Yet again another fantastic visit seeing a dear friend. From walking in, to leaving the staff are so friendly and heartfelt and will always stop and answer any questions.

Overall, all staff are very pleasant to visitors and residents. Activities are encouraged but you can lead a horse to water but cannot make it drink, that is my cousin set in her old ways. The only complaint I have as a visitor is the lack of available seating for taking into the resident's room as
sitting on beds or cupboards is not the best option. Plus the option to purchase a drink on a long visit would be nice to share with the resident.

It is a happy place, the staff are very polite and do support my nan. Staff have a good understanding of my nan, her likes and dislikes, games or TV shows. Activities are very hit and miss, could be more willing to do them. Food is nice, it is presented lovely and she is given an option. There are two
staff members in particular who stand out and are excellent.

All care workers are amazing. Reception, both weekdays and weekends, are first class. Food is very good but very dry e.g. fish cake, new potatoes and peas with no sauce e.g. parsley sauce. The cleaner is excellent. My mother is very well cared for.

Arrived for a visit with my mother to be met by the lady in the reception with a lovely smile and a copious amount of enthusiasm. Arrived at my mother's room she was well presented and happy. The staff popped in about four times to ensure that she was hydrated and if she needed anything. Previously
the team had helped arrange a picnic in her room for us.

A dear friend is now living in this care home. I visit him as often as I can (I live 75 miles away) and on each visit, it is clear to me he is being looked after by the caring staff. Due to the distance I travel to visit my friend at this care home, so not many visits, I cannot give a more accurate
review. However, I have found the staff and manager very helpful on each of my visits.

My mum moved into Glendale in September 2021 due to a combination of very limited mobility and dementia. She has always said that she never wanted to go into a care home but she needed 24/7 care and other options were exhausted.
The staff have been absolutely amazing with their sensitivity and kindness.
I've also noticed an improvement in her physical health and appearance. It's a difficult time due to Covid restrictions but relatives are kept up to date with Government policy changes. There are many activities to make the residents' stay more enjoyable.
The manager is a remarkable personality with a combination of positivity, kindness and practical management and leadership. She also has a great sense of humour.
I've not met a single member of staff who isn't kind and caring and this creates a friendly and relaxed atmosphere throughout the home.

My mum does not participate in the many activities available to residents and spends most of her time in her room. She does not want to have any outside contact ie. television/radio. She spends most of her time resting.

Generally very good.
Sometimes it's difficult to find a staff member.
Staffs attitude is good, and generally, positive and cheerful.
I would say, considering the general situation, the care home does well.
Let's hope the Covid restrictions can be eased in the coming months.

My mother-in-law has been a resident for over one year now at Glendale. She was admitted from hospital during the height of the pandemic. I can only praise the efforts made by the management and caring staff who reassured and gave her outstanding care emotionally and physically following a dramatic
change for her. She tells us now that she feels the staff at Glendale are her family. It is wonderful to visit and see her so happy. We feel so fortunate to have found a place that offers such understanding and compassion.

My 96-year-old mother was diagnosed with the coronavirus and became extremely unwell. Her care during this worrying time was exceptional. Even though the staff are under extreme stress and pressure, they were unfailing in their care, support and reassurance of this frail lady of whom we are very fond.
She lived in a granny annex in my home for over twenty years until four years ago. Now she has are and 24-hour support.

My father has been in Glendale for the last 10 months. He had lived on his own for 3 years until things got too much for him at the age of 93 with a new diagnosis of Vascular Dementia. It took him a few months to settle in and he became quite confused and angry at times. The staff were absolutely fantastic
and he is very settled now and seems to have become more of his old self. I am so relieved that he has moved to Glendale and especially at this time as I know he is completely safe and very well cared for. He loves his routine and although that has changed a little since moving in, he has a new routine which he is very comfortable with. He is a man of few needs, but routine is important to him and the staff at Glendale have responded fantastically to this. I can't praise them enough; there is absolutely no way he would be as content if he were still at home with carers or was being looked after by family.
