Kingsleigh care home in Old Woking provides residential and dementia care on a permanent or short-term basis.

My Dad has been in the care home since June 2021. The staff are caring, engaging and supportive and go the extra mile to communicate electronically with myself and my brothers. The facilities are of a good standard and my Dad is involved in regular activities to stimulate him. He is comfortable, warm
and content and it is very evident to see that he is at peace in this home.

My mother of 88 years with vascular dementia went into Kingsleigh initially on three weeks respite. The carers overall were very nice and caring, did everything to make her feel welcome. The home is big, the decor and rooms are a bit dated and look tired. The residents are free to wander around, even
in and out of each other's rooms. Some residents are bed-bound. People often pick up things and wander. There was not enough staff circulating corridors and checking rooms. When I visited mum in her room, other residents would come in, rarely saw carers in the corridors unless you called them. This home specialises in dementia yet when mum developed a urine infection causing a behavior change of agitation and aggression, she ended up falling one night unsupervised, taken to hospital bleeding from the head, which actually caused a small bleed to the brain. Within days the home said they could not take mum back as couldn’t care for her needs. Four weeks later mum is still in hospital with no alternative.

With regards to staffing levels, I would like to assure you that we do a full dependency analysis for each resident which is used to plan the care team, in order to ensure that care is safe and appropriate for residents’ needs at all times. We do continually reassess resident’s needs, and it is regrettable that due to the change in your mother’s care needs and her requiring a higher level of one-to-one support, we were no longer able to care for her at Kingsleigh. We do appreciate your feedback and we are sorry that your expectations have not been met on this occasion.

Fantastic staff who have provided so much extra care and support through the COVID pandemic. I trust them to take care of my mum as best they can. I just wish the staff ratio was higher not just at Kingsleigh but with all elderly care home facilities. My only real complaint is my mum does not have her
own toilet as there is a toilet opposite her room. I find it so undignified for her to have to share it.

When my father arrived, the home made the transition very easy for both him and the family. He settled in very quickly and we all saw the wonderful care, love and support he was getting. Dad often said it was like living in a hotel. The carers work extremely hard, and yet they always had time for a
little chat with him. The meals were wonderful, and we would sometimes arrange to join him for lunch and a glass of wine. To the family, it became home from home to us too. We were always welcomed with a smile. Kingsleigh is amazing, thanks to all the staff. It is always clean, welcoming and fresh. There is always some activity going on and I couldn't think of a more perfect place for my darling Dad to end his days. Thank you Kingsleigh!

My mum's care is extraordinary. The staff are caring, considerate, understanding and professional. They get to know each resident and family members and make the care home a place of hope by giving each resident quality of life until the end. The environment is stimulating and fresh, with lots of activities
to encourage and entertain the residents. My family are extremely happy that |Mum is in the care of Kingsleigh.

So pleased that my mother spent her last 19 months in Kingsleigh. She was always shown the utmost care and respect and her dignity was always at the forefront. She was happy in her surroundings, staff were cheerful and always available to discuss with family members any concerns should you have any.
Like others have said, you did on occasion see her in someone else's clothes and someone in hers but I believe this happens in most homes and I appreciate that with over 60 people to care for it can happen. In the main, this was not a problem. I did feel that it would be an idea to lock all rooms when not in their rooms as this would discourage other tenants with dementia from going in other people's rooms and taking things.

However, as you can appreciate we don’t want to lock the rooms every time a resident leaves, as we wouldn’t want residents to feel restricted in their own home. I have found the service consistent regarding care and observation. I believe there is no key worker system? I feel key workers benefit the residents and can focus the family with confidence. The environment is a delight, great talking points and stimulating conversations. Activities and entertainment
are great. Would maybe like more walking around encouraged for those who are timid or nervous about getting lost.

A very nice Residential Home. Lovely staff who really care about their residents and the residents family. Always made to feel very welcome and nothing is too much trouble. Take time to talk to you about your relative and answer any questions you may have. Always let you know if there is a problem with

My mother has been in this home since the end of April 2017. My mother was in poor health when entering but now looks very well. She is also well kept, her hair is always clean and tidy.
My only issue all but trivial would be that her clothes, shoes etc.. Were kept to her only, she is often in other
peoples clothes and slippers but I am well aware this is a hard thing to keep an eye on.
I am very happy with her overall care.

My mum moved into Kingsleigh care home over a year ago and I have been consistently extremely happy with the care provided. Care is kind and cheerful. The home is always open for me to visit, I do not need to make an appointment. Staff welcome me and update me on my mum. Visitors are welcomed. I love
the way staff bring coffee and biscuits for visitors. There is a fantastic atmosphere at this home from top management through carers and all staff. Everyone was especially helpful when mum needed to go for an operation and everyone was thrilled it was successful. I am moving away but I don't want to move mum as the care is so good. I would rather travel to see her.

The staff are always cheerful and helpful, the managers knowledgeable and professional. Mum seems very happy with her environment even though her dementia prevents her from remembering much about what has gone on.
The recent help we received in preparing her for a surgical procedure early in the morning
was instrumental in making a success of the whole venture - we could never have got it done without the perseverance of the staff in making sure she was up, dressed and medicated in time.
Knowing how awkward mum can be I sometimes cannot understand how the carers keep their cheerful composure, but somehow they do. They are all truly special people.

Mum came to live at Kingsleigh after an extended stay in hospital where she was very unsettled and crying all the time. We were very worried she wouldn't settle however with the support of the staff she has settled in amazingly well. The staff are like friends and are all very kind and attentive.
Mum has had a few infections since she has been there but the staff always keep me updated on any GP's visits etc. Mum is also prone to falls so they have put a sensor mat by her bed so that if she gets up in the night the staff know and go to her. Mum is also eating better and has even put on weight since being there. Looking at the way they deal with the residents it is clear to see they all love their job and are happy working at Kingsleigh. We honestly could not have wished for mum to be in a nicer home and feel blessed that she is happy and safe. We visit twice a week and are always made extremely welcome and offered tea/coffee. I would highly recommend Kingsleigh!

My friend / former neighbour has been in Kingsleigh for about 4 months. At first I was worried that he wouldn't settle in, but the staff have been so helpful and patient towards him that he seems really happy now.
He's quite active, and I like the fact that there's lots of space for him to wander around
(and drink endless cups of tea!) He also gets a daily newspaper.


I try to visit him once a week, often on different days / times and always enjoy the friendly welcome and relaxed atmosphere.


Kingsleigh is definitely a home I would not hesitate to recommend.

My father was badly treated at his last home, and we were recommended to Kingsleigh. He has been here for over a year, and I cannot fault the level of care he receives from the manager of the home, the office staff, and the carers, they work together as a team to keep the residents cared for, happy
and relaxed. I would strongly recommended this home to anyone he is happy and loved her, which makes me happy and blessed.

The home has a lovely feel about it. Residents are free to wander around if they want to. You often see a resident sitting in the office having a chat to the managers! The activities provided occupy the residents in the afternoons. Every resident is able to have a degree of independence in things like
waking up, bed times and eating. They all eat together at the table which is lovely and sociable but also if they decide to have a lay in, there is always food available later on.
Mum has become more relaxed since being at Kingsleigh and is really well looked after with regular visits from the district nurse.

Kelly Kelleher

Job Title: Home Manager

I started my career as a care assistant and moved my way up the ranks. I joined Care UK in 2006 and was the deputy manager at Broadwater Lodge, another Care UK home, for seven years before moving to Kingsleigh.


I would describe myself as a people person with a passion for helping others. One of my favourite parts of the day is when everyone stops for ‘tea at 3’. It’s a chance to catch our breath after the busiest part of the day, and it gives us the opportunity to have some quality conversation time with residents.


I’ve been supported by other home managers to progress in my career, and I believe in doing the same now I’m at that level. Being able to help and develop colleagues is a great feeling, as is empowering them to make a difference in residents’ lives.
