Recently after over six years at Redcot, Mum passed away. I think back over that period and smile at the happy times she spent there – the singing, dancing, parties and all the varied activities.
The staff did so much to make Mum feel special, far exceeding anything I could have expected, especially
when she became bedridden.
My daughters and grandchildren were always made to feel so welcome when they visited, and they enjoyed joining in the various celebrations so much over the last few years. I certainly felt part of the “Redcot Family”.
I am so pleased we found Redcot, as I know Mum was well looked after all the time.
I would like to say an enormous thank you to all the staff, past and present, for the exceptional care you gave Mum.

My mother was a resident of Redcot Residential Care Home from January to March and it is a shame that her medical condition stopped her from staying longer. She was very happy there and all of the carers learned as much as they could about her in order to make her feel at home and went out of their
way to make her feel secure and looked after. The feel inside is exceptionally homely with the cabinets of crockery and comfy chairs in various rooms around the ground floor. The grounds are beautifully kept with lots of interesting things to look at. The provision of varied occupational therapy, from group singing to crafts, keeps residents interested and the pub in the garden is a fantastic place to be in the summer. Relatives are always welcome, it was a lovely place to be for us. I can't thank everyone at Redcot enough for my mother's time there.

We had a difficult start, as I made the decision my mother needed to be in a care home. However, she is thriving and now says it was the right decision. She has nothing but praise for the staff and the home generally. She is happy and so am I.

My mother came to live at Redcot Residential Care Home in early February 2023. She is settling in well. The transition from her own house to the home was smoothed by the warmth and care of the staff. Everyone is made welcome and I soon got to know the staff by name. Redcot feels like home, not an institution;
the staff are caring and enjoy interacting with residents and their family members. They are responsive if any concerns or requests are shared. It has a real family feel. We are so pleased that Mum has found somewhere where she is well-cared for, valued and respected.

A really peaceful calm environment with very caring staff. My mother is content, safe and well cared for. As a family we are so pleased we chose Redcot. The quiet surroundings and environment really stood out when we were choosing a care home and really helps it feel like a homely environment. My mother

My dad came to Redcot in July 2022, initially for respite (he was adamant that he didn't want to go into a care home). He stayed on after his initial 2 weeks and is still adamant that he doesn't want to go into a care home! He thinks of Redcot as a hotel for the elderly who can't look after themselves
which is a testament to the care and concern he has been given by all the staff. They can always find the time to have a laugh and a joke with him!
Christmas was a lovely time at Redcot - a huge amount of effort was put into giving the residents a memorable experience - the Christmas party was hilarious and all the staff joined in. On Christmas morning, they were all given cards and gifts.
The meals always look excellent and so do the delicious home-baked cakes served with tea in the afternoons.
The rooms are spacious and bright and the views from the terrace are stunning.

My mother has been at Redcot for 14 months. The staff are very caring and patient. She recently celebrated her 100th birthday and as well as her party with her family at my house she was treated by the home the next day to a day out by the seaside and fish and chips for lunch which she thoroughly enjoyed.
As a visiting relative I am welcomed and listened to. My mother is quite frail now but up until recently she joined in the various activities and the occasional aperitif before supper!

My mother came to Redcot last year for some respite care while we went abroad for two weeks. When we returned home and took her back to her apartment she expressed concern about leaving Redcot, such a supportive caring environment. “I’m treated like the Queen” she said. We had long discussions about
her care going forward and giving up her independence in her flat. Redcot took a pragmatic approach and suggested she try a month to see how she felt. After a few weeks, once again, she said she wanted to stay so she moved permanently there last Autumn.
The staff are wonderful, very personable, caring, and attentive. She loves her room and seems to have brought most of her flat belongings to the one room. The handyman has been very patient as he puts yet another picture up on a very crowded wall!
It’s hard for families to accept that a care home is the best place for their parents but for anyone wondering about residential care. I would without reservation recommend Redcot.

My mother received excellent care and attention from the staff. She was in a safe and secure environment With the added bonus of beautiful views and a lovely garden and her grandchildren could play the care home's grand piano for her.

We cannot speak highly enough of Redcot as a final home for our mother. Not only did the manager come and visit mum in her own home before mum finally decided to spend some time at Redcot, but also offers to pick her up on her first day, to make things easier for us. Mum only stayed five weeks at Redcot,
before my she died there, but during this time she made friends with both residents and staff, enjoying the beautiful, cosy atmosphere of this delightful home that truly feels peaceful, non-clinical and a pleasure to be in. The staff, without exception were excellent: nothing was too much trouble for them, they always introduced themselves when we visited and the unusually low turnover of staff here means they all take such a pride in their superb caring of the residents.


When mum finally became bedridden and unable to move, the staff rose to the occasion once again, keeping her held in an atmosphere of calm, caring respect and love.

I wrote a review back in December when mum first moved to the care home. Sadly she passed away last week but I just wanted to say that the care the staff gave to mum has been totally amazing. I would like to say a massive thank you to each and every one of them. Mum being at Redcot allowed me to be
her daughter again instead of her carer and I am so grateful to have had those last couple of months as her daughter.
To the Manager thank you for supporting me through this very difficult time, your support has been above and beyond, I am so glad I called you that day to ask about care homes because you certainly have the best one in Haslemere.
If anyone is thinking of placing a loved one in a care home you will not regret sending them to Redcot they are amazing.

My mother is nearly 99. As I was unable to care for her for a short period she had a respite stay at Redcot. I was concerned that she would have difficulty adapting – given her very poor sight and the difficulties she has with hearing, memory and mobility. However, I need not have worried.
She
soon adapted to life at Redcot because everyone did such a really great job of looking after her. She is full of praise for the care she received and said that everyone was very kind and helpful. She thought the home and her room were lovely and enjoyed the food and activities. Although she says she is pleased to be back home, she says that she would be very happy to stay at Redcot again in the future.
All the staff I dealt with in researching and organizing the respite care - admission, and when visiting and leaving, were unfailingly helpful and a pleasure to deal with.

Mum has been in Redcot since February 2021, following a hospital stay that left her unable to live independently. She is so happy to be at Redcot and has really made it her home, which probably says it all. The staff have all been very welcoming, understanding, considerate and patient. We as her family
feel so relieved that she now has constant support, and so we are all extremely grateful to the manager and all the staff for the fabulous care she is receiving.

My mother has been living at Redcot since January 2020, following a serious stroke that left her bedridden and requiring full-time care. It was important for my brother and myself to find somewhere where Mum would feel at home. We looked at a number of residential care and nursing homes, but as soon
as I visited Redcot, I knew it felt right. It is such a calm, peaceful place, always clean and tidy, and smells lovely. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the food is excellent. The staff are all so caring and friendly and nothing seems too much trouble. They treat Mum with kindness, patience and dignity, and have helped her to feel safe in such uncertain, worrying and ever-changing times. This has been so reassuring for us as a family, particularly when visits to see Mum have been so limited.

My dad has been at Redcot for over 5 years now and he is very content living there as part of the Redcot family. Dad is looked after with kindness and encouragement and is able to make his own decisions to promote independence. The staff have been tremendous in keeping dad and the other residents safe
and comfortable during this most difficult year. They have provided many different forms of communication so we could all keep in touch with our loved ones. To have a parent in such a lovely home environment is comforting for us as a family.

My 97 year old mum needed more care following a deterioration in her ability to look after herself and also to be closer to me, so we chose Redcot. It really has been the best decision but a hard one. Redcot has been so reassuring and supportive. I can’t thank them enough for the attention and kindness
they show to mum, my sister and me, especially through this pandemic. As a district nurse for many years, I have visited numerous care homes so when it came to mum I did seek high standards. Redcot definitely have them and I have found all the staff to be friendly and approachable.

My mum has lived at Redcot for the last five years. Staff are caring and kind - which was the primary requirement for us. They take a real interest in each resident and show kindness and affection. The current service manager is very supportive of residents and their families and friends, she is open
and approachable, and always happy to discuss any queries or concerns. Friends of the Elderly who own and run Redcot are well managed and progressive. The house and garden is comfortable, attractive and homely. Activities and entertainments are provided most days. During the COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, the staff have really made extra efforts to provide a family atmosphere whilst sticking carefully to the safety guidelines. Contact between residents and their relatives has been enabled as well and safely as possible. Of course, there are minor aspects which could be improved, but overall my mum and I feel very content, comfortable and confident with her life at Redcot.

Our dear mum has been a resident of Redcot since September 2020. At 90-years of age, and contending with the challenges of Dementia, our mum was in need of special care. From that very first day, Friday 12th September, as Mum was introduced to her new home, it was very apparent to us, that the manager
and her team were special people. The reassurances we received from them, on that day, and more importantly, the reassurances given to my mother, on that rather sad day, have proved to be true, that our mum would be safe with them. I cannot praise the Redcot staff enough for their consistently warm and compassionate care of our mum, not least in such challenging circumstances, due to this wretched pandemic. We, as a family, hold the management and all staff members of Redcot Care Home in the highest regard, for their extraordinary efforts in maintaining such high standards of care. We wholeheartedly thank them and recommend them. Very special people!

Redcot is a comfortable home in a beautiful location. Its garden, grounds and terrace are very attractive and were a strong factor in my choosing it for my mother. I have enjoyed sitting on the terrace with Mum in warm weather. It is very nice that the two lounge areas look out onto this terrace. Mum's
room also had a good view of the landscape (I haven't seen her present room). The home is comfortably furnished. The staff I have met have usually been friendly and helpful to me. I think Mum has been well cared for, including a difficult period when she suffered a series of falls. She enjoys the activities provided (especially those involving music). My only slight grumbles would be about communications: sometimes it has been difficult to get through on the phone and calls have not been returned. But hopefully, a new phone system will have addressed this. And during the coronavirus pandemic, some of the procedures around PPE or visiting precautions have been a bit too relaxed.

We have had some issues with the phone system and wish to apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused, a new phone system is being sourced and will be fitted as soon as possible. During the covid pandemic, FOTE has always been covid wise and has followed government guidelines, we have always had plenty of PPE with no shortages.

I’ve always wanted to support older people to live fulfilled lives and ensure they are cared for
and happy.


I’ve worked in the Care Sector for eight and a half years. Before coming to Friends of the Elderly, I was a Support Worker for adults with learning disabilities, which was a really rewarding job; but when the opportunity arose to come to Redcot, I knew it was the right place for me.


As the Deputy Manager, I have lots of different tasks I need to achieve every day, but of course, these tasks change daily – I have to say, it’s never boring here. I support our Care Home Manager, Jan with the day-to-day running of the care home, but also have specific tasks.


I assess all our new residents and am always on hand to provide support or have a chat if any resident or a family member has any questions or queries. Amongst other things, I work with our care team on our residents’ care plans, undertake risk assessments and work hard to ensure all our residents’ care needs are met.


It’s extremely important, not only to me but to the whole of the Redcot team, that our residents are happy, well cared for and safe, and I work to the best of my ability to achieve this.


Another great thing about my role is that it gives me the flexibility to not only work in the care home’s office, but also the opportunity to take time to chat with our residents, get involved in their daily activities and learn more about each individual’s life stories.


I do what I do because I genuinely care. I care about all our residents, their families and Redcot. I love what I do because I feel I’m making a difference and, if I can make just one resident smile a day, I know I’ve not only made their day a bit brighter, but I know I’m doing my job well.
