I live in Australia so all my contact was by phone or email. All the staff were so helpful and kind in answering all my questions and passing on messages to my aunt who was very deaf. When I was able to communicate with her, she was always enjoying the home, the activities and the attention.
The app
enabled me to view my aunt’s activities on a daily basis which helped me feel a little closer to her.
I was in contact with my aunt’s friend who visited her regularly.

I moved my Mother into The Royal Cambridge Home on the 20th April 2016. The staff were very kind, attentive in helping my Mother settle in. If I had concerns about my Mother the staff were quick to problem solve. The day to day running at the home is very smooth with activities for the residents eg.,
flower arranging, exercise, quiz games, bingo, poem reading and entertainers. They have excursions, summer fetes to raise money, garden parties and lovely gardens to sit in. During my Mother's stay, there was a number of improvements to the home, such as decorating and changing the inside layout. My Mother died on the 15th November 2019, and the management and staff cared for her by sitting with her day and night for 9 days, and making her as comfortable as possible, until she passed, for which I am truly grateful.

My 94-year-old grandmother moved to the Royal Cambridge a few years ago as her old home was closing down. Although it was a big upheaval for her, it was definitely for the best. She was made very welcome and settled quickly. They are very understanding of her medical needs and do their best to keep
her mobile. They encourage the residents to live as independently as possible and treat them with dignity. You are free to visit at any time and are always greeted with a smile The staff are kind and caring and keep you well informed. The home also has daily activities which are varied. They often include outings in the minibus, and as well as the residents, family/friends are welcome to join in. The staff do their best to include everyone’s interests and hold regular residents meetings to listen to their ideas. The food is good, the home is clean and the staff are friendly. This is a well-organised home, which I have recommended to friends for respite, and they have also been very happy.

After a long spell in hospital, my father came to the Royal Cambridge in August for a two-week respite break and is still there. He soon realised it was better than being at home with Carers coming in. He is enjoying the company, the food and the knowledge that there is always someone there. In his
words “I feel safe here”.
Since being here, his health and mobility has improved. The staff are very encouraging and caring, which has helped dad settle.
He has had regular visits to the hairdresser and chiropodist and seen the optician and the audiologists, as well as being taken to hospital appointments. Dad is encouraged to join in the activities and has enjoyed his walks along the river and to bushy park.
After each visit, I leave with the peace of mind knowing dad is being well cared for.
Well done the Royal Cambridge team.

The staff are professional, friendly, helpful and attentive. They have a very good understanding of my mother’s situation and demonstrate real concern for her overall welfare and well-being. Her dignity and independence are respected with an informed oversight that provides appropriate care which is
both reassuring and safe. Visits can be made at any time without warning and there is always a warm welcome.
Although an old building, it is well maintained, well presented with a comfortable, clean, homely atmosphere.
The overall impression is of an enthusiastic well-led team, that are comfortable with their responsibilities and are justifiably proud of the high standards they set and maintain. I continue to be impressed and reassured at each successive visit.

My wife died on 2nd November 2018 at the Royal Cambridge Home, East Molesey. She had been a resident for the past 13 months and had progressively deteriorated due to vascular dementia. Throughout this time, and especially as she neared the end of her life, the care she received has been absolutely superb.
The managers, carers and regular agency staff developed personal relationships with her. It was very clear that they regard their caring role as far more than just a job. When members of the family visited her we were always given support, consideration and kindness. My family and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the staff at the Royal Cambridge Home. They have allowed my wife to end her life in comfort, peace and dignity.

All the staff are extremely kind and caring. Family members are encouraged to visit, are very welcome and support not only their own relative but also the other residents.
Food is very good, mother clears her plate.
Royal Cambridge is a very old building and is not up to date - but it has a great
heart.

After a long stay in hospital my Mother had a Respite of 9 days at the Royal Cambridge Home, the manager and his team were extremely helpful and efficient, and the staff are just marvellous, happy and helpful. If you have a loved one that is in need of a Respite break or needs to be looked after on
a permanent basis, I would highly recommend this establishment.

My mum needed a period of convalescence following a very long period in hospital. Everything was done in a very calm and caring way - her physical and emotional needs were always at the forefront of the care and assistance she received from all the staff there. Nothing was too much trouble - in her
first week she was seen by the visiting chiropodist and had her hair done by the on-site hairdresser - this helped her to feel a little more like her old self and she was able to take part in the daily organised activities if she wished and enjoy sitting in the beautiful garden. I feel I have found her "home from home" should the need for respite or permanent care arise in the future.

My wife entered the home for a week's respite on 16rh August.
She was of course very apprehensive but the staff very quickly comforted and reassured her.
My wife has Alzheimer's Disease.
I exited almost immediately and when I phoned the next day was told she ate up and slept well in her very nice
garden room.
My son and family visited her on the Saturday and said it was the happiest they've seen her for such a long time.
She was well looked after by very caring staff.

I have lived here for over a year now, but from Day One, I felt at home.
The staff are really all very kind, nothing is too much trouble.
This is essentially a very happy home, there is a lot of laughter.
There is always something going on - you can join in or, if you prefer, spend quiet time in
your own room.
The management is always ready to help, ready to listen, ready to consider and employ new ideas.
I do not regret for one minute my decision to leave my home and trust these people with the rest of my life.

My Mum had been struggling at home since January 2018, we had put care in place but it was not 24/7. As she lived alone and had a couple of falls and a blackout we realised the time had come for residential care. It’s a very big decision to act on their behalf, but somehow the staff at the Royal Cambridge
home made the transition for Mum and for me extremely easy and from the very first day I knew she was in a happy caring environment. The staff are wonderful and there is a lovely homely atmosphere. Hearing my Mum say ‘I love it here’, was the best news ever.

Pleasant place, carers who do their most to make you feel good and positive and look forward to your day or settle you nicely for your night.
Laughter is always there.

The staff are friendly and reactive. The management team are nice - some of the auxiliary carers are very kind.
There appeared to be a laundry system in place but, on each occasion I visited, my mother was either wearing someone else's clothes or had other people's clothes in her chest of drawers
or wardrobe.
I think there could have been a more proactive encouragement to do things e.g. walks in the garden, to alleviate boredom and anxiety.
The main meals were not very appetising although the baking was good.

We are sorry that your mother's clothes were mixed up. We have systems in place to try to ensure this does not happen but clearly they failed on this occasion.
Our activities programme is widely praised and we review this on a monthly basis but we will certainly look into encouraging more walks around our lovely gardens.
Our menus are regularly reviewed and we try to accommodate individual tastes where possible.

My aunt was in the Royal Cambridge Home for a few weeks, during which she received exemplary care. The excellent staff were unfailingly kind, thoughtful and sensitive to my aunt's needs. Everything possible was done to make my aunt feel comfortable, safe and well-cared for. My aunt was treated with
dignity as well as great compassion and understanding at all times. The home has a welcoming, friendly, calm and pleasant atmosphere and the kindness shown to residents by staff and management extends to family and friends. I would highly recommend the Royal Cambridge Home and am very grateful to all the staff for the support they gave to my aunt and her family.

Mum has dementia and has been a resident for about 6 months. I live and work close by so I visit her often and I have always found the staff to be really kind, gentle and caring towards mum. The activities and outings are certainly a good way to stimulate the bodies and minds of the residents. The garden
is beautiful and mum and I are looking forward to making the most of it when the weather improves. Nobody wants their parents in a care home but I am confident that she is as happy there as she can be and very well looked after.

After 7 years of looking after my mother the last 3 years of which took its toll on my health, work and overall capacity to function due to lack of sleep, worry and constant problems with care, I can honestly say I can visit her at any time and am happy with the care she receives. I have observed other
residents being cared for with the same dedication and patience. I leave my mother every time knowing she will be well looked after and that feeling is priceless. I thoroughly recommend this home, the carers are kind and professional, the home is warm and comfy and I view it as a second home for my mother.

My mother relished her independence until nearing her 101st birthday when her emotional and physical state deteriorated rapidly. Despite our need to choose a suitable carehome quickly we know we made the right choice in The Royal Cambridge. The care staff are without exception committed to ensuring
that each resident receives the individual 'tlc' to suit their particular needs, and although the actual building could benefit from the same treatment the general feeling is 'homely' rather than 'a home'. My mother now smiles again. Thank you Royal Cambridge!

Rory

Rory Belfield

Job Title: General Manager

Joined: 2015

Rory is the General Manager of The Royal Cambridge Home. He has been the Manager of the service since June 2015. He has over 25 years experience of working in social care and has been a Registered Manager with the Care Quality Commission since 2006.


He has attained relevant qualifications in care namely: Registered Manager’s Award; NVQs in Care levels 2, 3 and 4; Assessors and Internal Verifiers qualification; as well as awards in Managing Care and End-of-life care.


Rory also holds a BSc (Hons) and MA degree in Social Sciences. He is a qualified counsellor having attained the Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. Most recently Rory has completed a Foundation Degree in Counselling with the Open University.


Vicky

Vicky O'Brien

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2018

Vicky has over 30 years’ experience in the care sector.


Having joined the Royal Cambridge Home in April 2018 as Care Manager, Vicky has since been promoted to Deputy Manager, however, as part of her role she also oversees the delivery of care for our residents.


She has a particular interest in Dementia, both in the inclusive practice and the research element. Vicky is a dementia trainer and both a Dignity and Dementia Champion.


She is also trained in Substance Misuse.


She holds a Level 3 NVQ in Management and a Level 5 NVQ in Care.
