Providing excellent personalised care for older people is the sole objective at Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes. For over 70 years they have been providing care to singles as well as couples in the cottages and the main building. The homes are a charity and while care is provided on an individualised basis they provide a strong community with activities and support for spiritual needs.

Experienced and dedicated staff value and encourage independence and try to provide for all individual needs, including care, diets and activities. The home has two members of staff with special responsibility for helping with personal interests, activities and frequent outings. They are assisted by a team of volunteers and have a minibus and a car at their disposal.

The cottages consist of a sitting room, a bedroom, a shower room, and a small kitchen. The main building has en-suite bedrooms in addition to lounges, dining room and facilities such as hairdressing and laundry. Several of the bed-sitting rooms are particularly suitable for couples.

Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes provide three-course lunches with choices for each course. Breakfast and tea are served in the dining room or in residents’ rooms and friends and family are welcome to join everyone for a meal. The kitchen staff can cater to residents' needs and preferences.

The homes are set in five acres beautiful grounds with a path winding through the gardens as well as wooded areas designed especially for wheelchairs and for those who need walking aids.

Very well run. Care, comfort, decor, catering, entertainment are all very good. It is a real home from home where all individual needs are met by very caring and well trained staff. Great co-operation between staff and relatives. Residents will always have issues and queries, but these are dealt with
and resolved in a caring and sensitive way where possible.
Would highly recommend.

All areas are kept spotlessly clean.
Managers, care staff, housekeepers, gardeners and kitchen staff are always polite and cheerful, even when very busy (plus office staff).
The food is excellent, plenty of choice i.e. alternatives.
Plenty of activities and outings but no pressure to take part.
Overall,
a place of peace and loving care.

My father is extremely happy at Bernhard Baron Cottage Homes (BBCH) and feels the community is like a family. He feels well supported and is treated with dignity and respect. As his memory has deteriorated the staff and activity co-ordinators have offered extra support finding activities that are relevant
to my father's interests as abilities. BBCH has always been extremely welcoming to me on my visits and I enjoy staying in the guest accommodation and joining my father for meals. We are really pleased with the caring attitude of staff and the supportive ethos within the community.

I visited a friend of a friend from another county and realised that I was unlikely to find anywhere which could meet my needs, both current and potential. I am enjoying the independence of my own cottage. Very adequately furnished with my own furniture and pictures. A carer checks me in the cottage
morning and evening. The main meal is communal and there is a very varied menu. Provisions for breakfast and tea are available to collect daily. The cottages are cleaned weekly and bed linen is provided and laundered. There is a very varied programme of activities - a wide range of crafts, painting, films, outings, visitors to shops. Religious activities. Independent with the support of care and security.

I feel comfortable and safe here, with such skilled and caring staff. I hope to remain here until I die. There is an atmosphere of a caring family. Until I am unable to look after myself, I am living in my private cottage in the grounds.

Carers are attentive, friendly and look after the residents. Everyone on the staff and trustees of the charity are approachable and treat you as friends not residents or patients. The human touch is there from the beginning. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
