My friend has been living at Aston House for the past 18 months. On occasions, her behaviour has been extremely challenging, but the staff have always treated her with kindness and respect. My friend has now moved to more specialist care, but a big 'thank you' to the manager and the team for looking
after her so well during her stay.

My uncle lived at Aston House for a few years before he died and was always cared for with kindness and compassion, especially throughout his short cancer journey. The manager and her amazing team I feel went above and beyond their duty, delivering nursing and end-of-life care, while supporting us as
a family, keeping us updated and fully involved at every step of the way. Enabling my uncle to die with dignity. Big shout out to my uncle's key worker for being so kind. We can now cherish great memories and are so thankful we can continue these memories knowing he had a dignified death. Me and my mum will be forever grateful to you all! Keep up the good work.

I am pleased with the overall care of my brother. The staff are caring and very happy to talk to me when I visit and keep me informed of his condition as he suffers from extreme anxiety. Will spend time talking to him.

Very bad service for my brother! He was not cleaned and changed every day as he should have been. Always told by staff they are too busy to carry out any requests from him. The staff called him filthy and disgusting if he soiled himself which gave him massive anxiety and stopped him from eating and
drinking properly, even to this day he still says sorry for having an accident and he can't help it. He was over restricted on food and drinks. He was encouraged to wee in the sink as were other male residents and was forced to drink non-drinking water from his sink due to water restrictions as he could not get up to get it himself from the kitchen. During his last weeks there, they were telling him off for bending over and not standing up straight when he had stenosis which they did not pick up on and he is now paralysed and blind. To top it all off they evicted him while in hospital a week before Xmas and when I picked up his belongings he had £375 in cash missing and old collectors notes too!

Reply from Bob Chana, Director at Aston House

I am sorry you have chosen to write this untrue review, I will now address it with the limited words the website allows. Your brother was changed and cleaned as required always, otherwise, why would you let him stay in the home for 5 years? He was never called filthy or disgusting, we deal with incontinence on a daily basis. His fluids were restricted at his doctor's request as excess fluids were reducing his lithium levels. He was near a bathroom, but would, unfortunately, choose to urinate in the sink. This is not encouraged. He was given notice as agreed with Social Services in his best interest, as once he had gone to hospital it was felt the home would not be the right placement for him going forward. We have had 2 CQC inspections in the last 5 years. These have both attained, a "Good" rating with "Good" achieved in all areas. These inspections include feedback gained by the inspector from residents on the day. We welcome any visitors.

Current Review Score: 8.6 (8.644)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.6 (8.644) out of 10 for Aston House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.394 for Aston House is calculated as follows: ( (16 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (3 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 33 Ratings = 4.394

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.25 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Aston House is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 15 registered maximum number of service users is 3, which has been reached with 3 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
