My mum seems very happy and relaxed, which I have not seen before she came here.

Due to Covid could only have garden visits. The Garden was in disrepair at the time, broken seating area. Witnessed a resident fall through a swing chair seating with staff laughing.
Some staff very curt and rude. No engaging activities obvious or timetable. Considering a dementia home. My mother
has since moved and I cannot believe the difference in care facilities. Would not recommend this awful place. Building in need of good facelift and front gardens full of rubbish. Far better homes out there than this place!
Also, neglect founded on my mother's personal care.

I recommend they update their website photos as not accurate as buildings and gardens in need of repair.
Small ornaments scattered around the garden at floor level not good for partially sighted or dementia patients.
Blinds always closed so residents are unable to look out the front window.
My mum
never had on her own clothes or even her glasses.
Never responded to emails/calls regarding safeguarding issues.
The phone never answered and felt some staff quite curt when answering.

A dementia care specialist home which has proved to be a very good place for our mother. The care staff are all local and have been the same throughout, so staff are retained which is a good sign. They have helped us deal with and understand dementia. Our mother is now settled and the staff seem genuinely
fond of her.

Friendly, clean and excellent care. I could only give satisfactory to safety/security as mum did manage to escape once.

Do not believe the Quality Care Commission report. This is a really good care home with really lovely and caring staff. I have worked in care homes and this is the best you can get so I do not understand why they need improvement. It is not the caring staff, as they are all wonderful.

I am the husband of a resident.
Overall, I am very happy with the care my wife receives at Derwent Residential Care Home. I am myself made to feel welcome at all times as I am there most days visiting my wife. The staff and carers treat my wife with dignity and respect at all times and this makes me
feel comfortable when I leave at the end of the day. I hope this care and level of professionalism continues for the future care of my wife.

The Derwent Care Home needs a lift.
Those residents who reside in the rooms upstairs and have mobility problems would find it very difficult to descend the stairs. My mother is bed bound and could only get around using a wheelchair; noway could she join in with activities downstairs. There is a stair
lift but would still be a problem for both residents and staff alike.

I visit my sister in law every week and always find the staff to be very attentive and caring towards her and all of the other residents. Her room and the communal areas are spotlessly clean and there are activities on offer for those that want to join in. It is reassuring to myself and my family that
she is looked after so well

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.585)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.585) out of 10 for Derwent Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.685 for Derwent Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (83 Excellents x 5) + (18 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.685

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Derwent Residential Care Home is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 registered maximum number of service users is 6.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Hello, my name is Ali and I am the Home Manager at Derwent Care Home. I thoroughly enjoy the daily challenges that come with my role and take pride in recruiting a strong team that delivers high-quality care to our residents. It brings me great satisfaction to add value to our care services and enhance the lives of our elderly residents, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives.

I am passionate about providing the same level of care to our residents as I would expect for my own parents. With over 10 years of experience in independent care companies, I have worked with adults who have acquired dementia, challenging behaviour and nursing. I hold qualifications as an Assistant
Practitioner, Dementia Championship, Leadership, and Management.

Making a positive difference in people's lives is my biggest achievement throughout my career. I am committed to continuous development to ensure that the individuals I care for receive the best possible care and life enrichment in their later years.
