Response by Elizabeth Court Rest Home to this inspection report
Elizabeth Court Care Home is a residential care home providing personal and nursing care for up to 24 people. Most people need support with personal care and some required assistance to move around the home safely. People are living with a range of health care needs. These includ living with dementia, mental health and frailty linked to old age.
People tell us they feel safe and are very comfortable at Elizabeth Court. One person said, “I am happy here, the staff are very nice, I have everything I need and I like the quizzes and arts and crafts.”
Staff have a good understanding of people’s support and care needs. Staff manage risks well and know who to report any safeguarding concerns to. Lessons are learnt when things go wrong, and staff are supported to develop their knowledge and skills through regular training and supervision.
There are enough staff to provide the care.

Job Title: Manager
Joined: 2009
I started my career as a care assistant in the community, this is where I achieved my NVQ Level 2, realising I had a love for this industry. I moved to Elizabeth Court in 2009 where I achieved my NVQ Level 3, and latterly my level 5, when I took on management responsibilities in 2015. I developed a keen interest in dementia and a passion for supporting those affected by it, aiming to understand it as well as how best to support those people with it. This led to my achieving a master’s degree in Dementia Studies at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, which I completed in 2023. The COVID pandemic taught us all a lot of valuable lessons, but for me it highlighted the relationship between care homes, people living with dementia, and the rest of society. It was during this time that I joined the East Sussex Partners in Care (Previously the RCA) on their executive board, giving a voice to the voiceless, and latterly became the Vice-Chair, helping me to really make a difference to people across the social care system. I am taking myself back to education in 2024 to complete a Business Management bachelor’s degree to further my knowledge and skills. I love social care because of the difference we get to make to people’s lives every single day. My role involves championing individuals’ rights and keeping them safe, while remembering they are at the heart of everything we do.
