After 18 months living at the Grange with Parkinson's, my husband's health deteriorated quickly. After hospital discharge, it was a relief to him to return to East Dean. The care given was brilliant. So much detail was taken care of. All the staff treated him as a member of the family. His family
was also supported lovingly - right up to the peaceful end.

My mum was here for 2 weeks respite. She was reluctant to come but the staff were very patient and tried to accommodate her as much as possible.
They were very patient and respectful of her needs and wants.
I was very happy with the home and will be looking to place her here again in the future.

I had such a lovely afternoon at the Christmas party at the East Dean Grange Care Home. The staff are absolutely amazing, caring, considerate and inclusive to all. My husband was really contented and happy sitting, listening to the singer. Thank you so much for making this a special time for me and
my husband - such a wonderful memory.

Mum is very happy and settled here and taken care of very well. All the staff are kind and friendly and make sure she is comfortable. They are always very welcoming and cater to everyone's needs. Mum is flourishing here compared to being at home and the socialisation with other residents and staff has
done her so much good. Staff always get her up and engaged and we are lucky to have such dedicated staff.

My aunt has been at EDG care home for just over a year. Since the new management team has been in place things have drastically improved mainly the atmosphere. My aunt is well cared for, the staff are very kind and patient and she is treated with understanding and patience. Her room is spacious and
has lovely views. Food is showing signs of improvement. I feel there could be more daily activities and encouragement for residents to more more. My aunt does get bored at times but I realise residents with dementia are challenging. I am very happy with the service at EDG Care Home and would recommend it.

My father is a resident at East Deam Grange Care Home. The home has a family atmosphere, and I am included in that family. The staff are caring and respectful of my father's requirements, they keep me informed as to his progress. All his medical and care needs are met. We are always made welcome at
any time of day to both visits and take him out. I am confident my father is safe and cared for.

My brother has been a resident for over one year and is happy. Staff have always been patient, kind and helpful with a cheerful and professional manner. There have been improvements since the recent change of management. The new manager has considerable experience in care home management and is fair,
kind and professional in her approach. She is making welcome changes which will take time, but already there is much improved staff training, some additional staff and a noticeable improvement in staff morale and confidence. Moreover, the new manager listens and is very supportive of staff, residents and relatives too. The recent CQC report unfortunately pertains to the period prior to the change of management and does not reflect the vast improvement in the current running or rating of the home.

Our mum commenced her stay at East Dean Grange in May 2022. They were a godsend as myself and my 2 siblings were broken as we could no longer keep her safe and well and felt we had failed Mum. All the staff at the home were so respectful to our mum especially four members of staff in particular.
Our
mum enjoyed the food and her room was so comfortable and roomy. Mum wasn't the easiest to look after as she was fiesty and independent and was struggling with her dementia. All the staff got to know Mum very well and knew what to do for her when she became agitated.
Mum had always been so clean and loved her clothes and the home ensured that this was kept up making sure that her outfits were correct and one member of staff gave her a weekly manicure. Mum had lost a lot of weight leading up to coming to East Dean Grange but the good food ensured she put this weight back on.
Our mum passed away unexpectedly on the 7th November this year and the team could not have been kinder. Thank you.

Would totally recommend this home and only wish it had been available to non-members before now. Apart from the usual teething problems with moving into anywhere new, the experience has been above and beyond my mother-in-law's 2 previous care homes. The staff are all friendly, professional and caring.
They are excellent communicators and are totally on it with regard to her medical care needs. Plus, the administration is speedy and efficient - a rarity! A superb setting too nestled in the South Downs with a lovely garden and easy access to the local church, inn and village.

My mother had a weeks respite care and during that time, although staff were pleasant and helpful, there were a number of issues which gave cause for concern;
1. 24 hours after admission, Mum was admitted to hospital with confusion and dehydration.
2. Despite being told on several occasions that Mum
needed assistance and a straw to drink, on at least 3 occasions we witnessed Mum being served a drink in a heavy mug with no straw.
4. When I picked Mum up, she was not wearing a bra, was not wearing her own clothes, her hair was not combed, her legs were badly discoloured and dry (cream needs to be applied 2 x day), she was taken to the toilet but when I got home found her bottom had not been wiped, her socks and slippers were wet.
5. Mum was sent home with someone else's clothes and at least 7-8 items of her clothes were missing.
6, Impossible to contact the home by phone or leave a message after 5pm.
7. Signage and web references suggest another care provider ownership but it was sold in April 22.

Thank you for taking the time to review us. We are sorry you feel this way and that you had a negative experience. We are pleased that you recognise the staff were pleasant and helpful.
We do not feel the review is reflective of the care we provide. For example, care staff followed the correct procedures in contacting the paramedics and it was ultimately the paramedics who made the decision to admit Mum to the hospital. Further, on the day of discharge, Mum was well presented and no concerns were raised at the time. The clothing, as discussed, was in the laundry being cleaned and was collected by you within a few days of discharge. No items were missing.
We were pleased when you made the decision to extend Mum's respite and we were unaware of the issues you raised. We don't have a record of a formal complaint and would be happy to discuss this in more detail. We always strive to provide the highest quality of care and we will use your feedback to improve peoples' experiences.

A lovely home in a lovely area. I felt there was a shortage of staff, the time to answer the bell was 25 mins which in the case of emergency is far too long. (I did not have an emergency.) The staff were lovely and helpful (when they had the time).

If you were staying in charge, extremely likely. You gave Mum the best care always; she loved it with you. You have been so kind and thoughtful to Dad when he visited Mum. This gave me peace of mind. Since her death last week, we have had so much support, which we are so grateful for. We have nothing
but praise for all your staff. Thank you for giving Mum a wonderful last year of her life.

I then made the move into the social care sector where I was responsible for converting care homes to nursing homes. After a couple of years of being involved in crisis nurse management I decided to move to managing adult social care in residential, non nursing, care homes. In the last nine years I have worked predominately in the voluntary sector before joining Bupa this year.
