Experienced nurses and care staff offer 24/7 care, so you know your loved one is in safe hands. All residents receive person centred care and are offered daily activities. Filsham Lodge are proud of their nursing team and the recent improvements they have made to their service. These include the implementation of an electronic care note and medication system to assist with the safe delivery of treatment and care. They are currently renovating many of their social areas to make the home feel more "homely" for their residents and have a new "quiet lounge" which can be used by residents and their families to spend some quality time together in private.

My brother was cared for at Filsham Lodge during the last months of his life. I cannot thank the staff and the manager enough for all the care, attention and support they gave me and my brother.
Despite the hard job they do, they were always smiling and dedicated to make all residents happy. He was
originally privately funded and when the time came for him to be social services funded, the home kept him and still delivered the same standards.
I would highly recommend this home to anyone who wants their loved one to be cared for to excellent standards. Thank you to all the staff and manager and I hope they keep up the good work.

I witnessed poor manual handling, carers being disrespectful about residents, carers talking in their languages whilst looking after residents! My nan was going to be kicked out as she is social services funded and the current manager was extremely unprofessional and had a disgusting attitude. The way
vulnerable adults are treated is disgusting. Following recent reports in the paper this does not surprise me and I hope CQC intervene as a service can't be run like this.

Reply from Anne Crousse, Manager at Filsham Lodge

We are surprised to read these comments as none of the issues were raised in the two and a half years we cared for your loved one. All our staff are trained in manual handling and supervised on a two monthly basis. At a Consultation meeting on 2/06/14 families were consulted regarding proposed changes to the nature of our business ie: delivering nursing care only. It is not our policy to give notice because residents are social services funded. In fact 75% of our residents are local authority funded. We have recently been audited by local authority who were very happy with the care delivered. Our CQC report shows we are compliant in all areas and we have a good rating. With reference to the recent newspaper article, please be assured that it is related to an individual RN practices and these practices were reported immediately to safeguarding and CQC and the NMC at the time. The RN was removed immediately from the service, ensuring the safety and well being of our residents remained paramount at all times.

My father was in their care for a very short time but I was able to very quickly establish that the staff were outstanding in their care for the residents there. I was happy to leave him with them and I know that he was comfortable and well looked after. There is an atmosphere of a large family and
all residents I saw were treated with respect, understanding and affection. Thank you

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.881)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.881) out of 10 for Filsham Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.556 for Filsham Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (58 Excellents x 5) + (24 Goods x 4) + (8 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 90 Ratings = 4.556

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.325 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Filsham Lodge is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 56 registered maximum number of service users is 11.2. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.2 = 0.625

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
