The Maples have an excellent standard of care, that you don't always see in other places.
They supported my dad through a very difficult time with his illness, and their level of care saved his life.
They are very communicative, involve the outside services and encourage the residents into better
health, with their utmost care and communicative skills. Always communicating with the outside services and with relatives. That includes the whole team, with both management and the carers.

Thank you for your review Brian it is greatly appreciated and I welcome the feedback provided. I am already in discussions with the owner with regards to freshening up certain areas of the home, but I would like to express my apologies with regards to any issues that you had with the cleanliness within the home and I will be feeding back your rating to the Domestic and requesting that she focusses more on her cleaning. It was a pleasure to have had you at the Maples for your period of respite, and I wish you all the best for the future.

The Maples building does not look 'top-notch', but the welcome they gave us and the homely feeling was. I needn't have worried about leaving Mum; she had a great time. When I picked Mum up, she looked as if she had been on holiday and had even put on some weight. Mum was sad to leave and has not stopped
enthusing about The Maples since. She told me the staff looked after her extremely well, and they were kind and affectionate towards her. She said nothing was too much trouble for them. She enjoyed the food and loved the daily entertainment, especially the music man. She even said she would like to go back for another holiday! Whilst I was away, my daughter visited a few times and was always made welcome. She informed me that Mum looked clean and smart each time she visited and witnessed her enjoying her food. I would therefore like to thank the staff from the bottom of my heart. I cannot recommend this home enough.

My first experience with the Maples home was back in 2018 when we placed my aunt there who spent 3 years with excellent care and I know she was happy there until she passed away. Shortly after it became necessary that my mother required constant care, she is still there today (Nov 2023) and I know that
she is happy in her surroundings. In all that time neither my sister nor I have had any complaints about the home and have had no regrets in choosing The Maples.

The staff have been excellent from the management down and it really does have a friendly and family feel at all times. I can only add - Thank you.

The staff are always very friendly, and on arrival offered a hot drink on each visit. Dad is always clean and well-presented. Although the home is in need of modernisation it is very clean and homely. In general, dad is very happy and the staff and management are happy to answer any concerns. I am very
happy with my dad's care at The Maples.

Home from home feel. Outstanding staff who look after residents as if part of their family. Nothing too much trouble. Always accommodating and go above and beyond. Can't fault the staff. Rooms and home are dated but overlooked by brilliant care. Thank you.

The care being provided to my grandad has been great. It has really quelled some of my mum's worries about my grandad's health, following the support being provided by staff. He regularly states he has enjoyed his meals.

My dad was sent to The Maples for a month's respite. In a matter of days, he went from being a resident to being treated like a family member. The care is impeccable, with every staff member going above and beyond. I can't praise the staff, under the guidance of the manager, enough. The stress of looking
after my dad has been lifted.

My 95-year-old mother-in-law came for respite care after a month in hospital left her weak and unable to contemplate independent living. After a month of tender loving care and good food, she was much more mobile and most importantly, had her confidence restored to be able to go home and (with some
support) return to her old life. The staff were wonderful although they needed a few more personnel to enable them to respond to everyone in a timely manner and I would have no hesitation in using The Maples again if Mum needed a break.

The Maples is a lovely care home operated by very friendly and caring staff. My mother-in-law has now been a resident for the past 8 months, and after an initial period of being unsettled, as expected with Dementia, she has settled in well and seems very happy, I can't fault the staff, who are extremely
helpful and nothing is too much trouble. The lovely manager and his deputy, especially. I would happily recommend this home to care for your loved ones.

Firstly, I would like to say a big thank you to the manager and all the staff at The Maples for the care shown to my mother during her stay. Staff were always caring, and nothing to much bother, and whenever we called, we were always greeted with a smiling face.

Mum has Alzheimer's and found the

move from home to care home a struggle, the confusion being a major problem, but the staff at The Maples dealt with this in a caring and professional way.
When we spoke, Mum would always say that the food was brilliant, and so was the staff, she couldn't fault it. Sadly Mum was only at The Maples for 4-months, but Mum was always treated with care, dignity and respect.
I really could not have been happier knowing that my mum was in a safe place and genuinely cared for.

Great home, great staff and lovely home comforts. Keep up the good work.

Reply from Colin Scott, Manager at The Maples

Thank you so much for your kind words; it was a pleasure to have know your mum, although it was for a short period of time. I do miss your mum's daily visits to me to keep me updated on everything that was going on in the lounge; she will be sadly missed not only by myself but also by my staff team.

My aunt was very nervous about staying at the beginning, but she very quickly felt safe and secure and felt she had made good friends with both management and carers. She was well looked after and cared for, and we were happy that she felt part of the family. She spent over two happy years in The Maples
and enjoyed the facilities offered such as entertainment, hairdressing etc, and regularly had a manicure, which she enjoyed. In the latter weeks of her life, she was quite weak and poorly, so we were glad that the staff were there to look after her when we couldn't visit, and it was a great comfort to her and her family when she was discharged from hospital to receive end of life care back at the home.
We would like to thank everyone there who always treated her with love, care and dignity and made her last year's such happy ones and were relieved we made the right choice when choosing this home - I would recommend it wholeheartedly to anyone looking for a home from home for their family member.

Reply from Colin Scott, Manager at The Maples

Thank you so much for your kind words; it was a pleasure to have know your Aunt and to be a part of her life in those final years. I will miss my 'Good Morning's every day, as she always made sure the team stopped by my office so she could say good morning to me, and also let me know if there were any issues. Your Aunt will be missed by not only myself but also my team, she was a one-off, and she will always be a part of The Maples, and it was our privilege to welcome her back to her home for those final days.

Firstly, it is very stressful trying to do the best for someone you care about.
My father has moved down just under two years ago and had been living in an assisted living accommodation.
To say he was independent mentally is an understatement, however, he had early-onset dementia, and the time had
come to move him down to be the near family.
What impressed me about meeting the manager was that he was responsibly flexible with how my father lived his life.
Trust me, some have them in bed by 6 pm.
If your relative is a young senior and likes lots of banter and laughs with the residents, it may be a bit difficult due to deafness, but all the residents really look out for each other, are kind and endearing; I loved them all.
I was deeply impressed by the staff's knowledge of the resident considering there are 24. They are really on the ball.
The staff are all approachable and down to earth. I trusted them completely.
My father sadly passed away on 21.1.21; he was happy. Good food too.

Reply from Colin Scott, Manager at The Maples

Thank you so much for your review. It was a pleasure to have known your father and to be part of his life and to get to know him. I know he will be sadly missed by myself and my team, especially his character, which could brighten everyone's day.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.554)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.554) out of 10 for The Maples is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.654 for The Maples is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.654

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Maples is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked within the Health and Social Care Sector for around 21 years and started my career as a Career for people with Learning Difficulties, Acquired Brain Injury and Huntington's Disease, and over that period of time I have gained all the relevant qualifications for my role, but continue on a daily basis to continue to expand on my skills and knowledge as things are constantly changing and developing within the Health and Social Care Sector.

I worked my way up the professional ladder and for the last 16 years have been a Registered Home Manager within both young adults and elderly care settings, for the past 8 years I have been a Registered Home Manager within elderly care settings.

As a Registered Home Manager, I am a hands-on manager and have a passion for keeping my hands-on approach as this not only enables me to maintain that close connection with the residents within my care, but also enables me to lead by example and provide hands-on support and guidance to the staff team at The Maples.
