My dad was a resident at The Maples (Care Home) from 2018 until he passed away at the beginning of this year.
We can’t thank the staff enough for the love and care they showed to Dad in the years he was there; it was a comfort to us to know he was loved and well looked after and treated as part of
there family.
Not only did they look after Dad so well, but they also looked after us with as much love as they gave to him.
They welcomed us, and nothing was too much trouble.
We will be forever grateful to all the staff for everything they have done for all of us, and we know Dad would feel the same.
You are all amazing... thank you.

Tracy, thank you so much for your review; it was a pleasure to have known your father and his character will be missed by all The Maples. Both I and my team feel it was a pleasure to have been a part of your father's life and to have had the time to get to know him and his history. Your father will always be a part of The Maples - Take Care.

Mum (aged 95) has lived in The Maples for just over 2 years during which time she has had several hospital inpatient stays. In October and November 2019 following 7 weeks in hospital with pneumonia, sepsis and MRSA, she returned to The Maples from 2 weeks in a rehabilitation ward where the physio and
nursing staff had given up on any effort to get her mobile. In the hospital, she was being hoisted in and out of bed, not showered, and often toileted in incontinence pads. The Manager and Senior staff at The Maples liaised with the hospital to obtain an appropriate sling for her use and she returned to The Maples at the beginning of December. Within a week The Maples staff had her mobile again, showering and toileting normally and without any need for a hoist. In the 2 years Mum has been at The Maples, we have always been impressed and grateful with the continuing excellent care Mum has received from The Manager and his staff.

A negative attitude towards the resident. Lacked empathy for residents anxiety. Lack of interaction. Did not answer the bell when rang. Food poor. Did not give 28 notice to quit. Did not allow resident back into the home after an overnight stay in the hospital. The resident had no alternatives in place
and had to stay in A&E all night.

As a home we pride ourselves on meeting the needs of all of our residents and on this occasion we were clearly unable to meet this residents needs, and clearly notified Social Services of this within 48hrs of admission. All the comments that Susan P has raised within this review have been received within the home as part of a formal complaint and have been addressed by the Provider who has submitted an outcome report to her. She has been advised that if she is not happy with the outcome as with all people she has the right to forward her complaint to the Local Government and Social Care Ombudsman.

My mother, now in her 97th year, needs daily care and attention and I have noticed that she clearly appreciates the warmth and affection shown by the staff.
Living abroad and therefore only able to visit a few times per year, I am relieved to find my mother in such a safe and calm environment where
she is treated with respect and is able to participate in the various activities offered by the home.

My mother was in The Maples for nearly 3 years before she passed away in January 2018. The Maples is a very nice care home where the emphasis is on care and cleanliness. My mother was very happy there and was well looked after. The staff are wonderful and are always welcoming. They have a very caring
mentality and nothing was ever too much trouble.
The home is well run and as my mother's condition deteriorated the care home went out of their way to make sure that she was comfortable and had everything she needed

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.554)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.554) out of 10 for The Maples is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.654 for The Maples is calculated as follows: ( (75 Excellents x 5) + (27 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 107 Ratings = 4.654

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Maples is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 24 registered maximum number of service users is 4.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

I have worked within the Health and Social Care Sector for around 21 years and started my career as a Career for people with Learning Difficulties, Acquired Brain Injury and Huntington's Disease, and over that period of time I have gained all the relevant qualifications for my role, but continue on a daily basis to continue to expand on my skills and knowledge as things are constantly changing and developing within the Health and Social Care Sector.

I worked my way up the professional ladder and for the last 16 years have been a Registered Home Manager within both young adults and elderly care settings, for the past 8 years I have been a Registered Home Manager within elderly care settings.

As a Registered Home Manager, I am a hands-on manager and have a passion for keeping my hands-on approach as this not only enables me to maintain that close connection with the residents within my care, but also enables me to lead by example and provide hands-on support and guidance to the staff team at The Maples.

As the Registered Home Manager of the Maples, I operate an open-door policy for all, and feel that communication is key to any good relationship
