Saxonwood care home's focus is on brighter living. They welcome people with open arms, like one big family, and strive to bring sunshine to residents every day. The home's prides itself on being one the most homely and friendly around.

Saxonwood has a seven-day-a-week sunny moments club. This is led by their dedicated activity co-ordinator who provides a variety of one to one and group activities. These are based on residents' hobbies and interests - there's something for everyone.

Each resident has an allocated key worker and the staff team receive regular training to make sure they provide the best care and support 24 hours a day.

Saxonwood has a 5* food hygiene certificate and the in-house catering team create delicious, nutritious home-cooked meals, reflecting residents preferences.

Engaging and involving residents is important and they regularly seek ideas, feedback and suggestions from residents and their families so the home can continuously improve its service.

Saxonwood has a warm, welcoming environment with a strong sense of community. The home is set in beautiful grounds, with it's own orchard, on the outskirts of historic Battle.

Saxonwood has a homely community of 33 residents and enjoys a country setting within easy walking distance of shops and the town centre.

All bedrooms are designed for individual occupation, with residents encouraged to bring their own furniture and personal belongings. Some have en suite facilities and others have a vanity unit incorporating a hand basin. All rooms have their own telephone and television points.

Saxonwood care home is run by Sussex Housing & Care which is a not for profit provider of housing and care for older people in Sussex. Any surplus they make is reinvested into improving the quality of life of their residents.

Down for the extended weekend and as foreshadowed I dropped in both Saturday and Sunday mornings. Not unexpected then but my relative always likes a welcome (I hope) surprise and alert, paper to hand and watching a film, or so it seemed when in the lounge. Sunday morning was much more quiet and busy
in the run-up to lunch. We did a thorough chat and caught up a little. A sort of grumble response, never going to be happy with mash and pureed, but chef does it well and it tastes reasonable. I dropped in the magazines - triple tick, I think, plus the new protected sites handbook.

Saxonwood had been referred to us by several people as a warm, happy place with excellent care. I have not been disappointed. Since my sister moved in she has been treated with the utmost respect. A very welcoming care home. My mum spent a short respite break at Saxonwood and the staff made her feel very much at home and special.
The building, especially the lounge, is bright and airy and her room was very comfortable and easily accessible.

Saxonwood Care Home is a haven for my Mum. She is warm and well cared for by genuinely kind staff. The food is specially prepared for her and as she says she doesn't have to shop, cook, or wash up, she just has to eat!

Saxonwood has been wonderful to my 94-year-old neighbour. The care has been exemplary and she has been treated with dignity at all times. She has improved in confidence and offered encouragement at all times. I have no hesitation in recommending Saxonwood for either respite or long-term care.

The staff are all very patient and helpful to my mother as she struggles both in her efforts to live around other people and in dealing with her medical difficulties. They encourage Mum to take part and engage with other residents in the many different activities which take place. Her quantity and range
of food eaten has expanded with the excellent home-cooked meals, occasionally celebrating festivals with mild versions of dishes from across the world. I feel confident Mum is well looked after.

The Saxonwood staff are always polite and have smiles on their faces and in their voices on the phone whenever I telephone or visit which makes for a lovely atmosphere and community. My uncle is offered daily activities to participate in covering a good range of interests and helping to promote health
e.g. chair exercise sessions. He has his own space to retreat to when he feels like it and that overlooks a lovely garden area. I am very happy that my uncle is getting good care and seems to be thriving better than when he was at home alone.

From making our first contact through to Mum moving in and staying over the last months I have felt confident that Saxonwood was the best choice of care home for Mum. All the staff is caring, professional, and well trained and put the residents at the centre of all they do, this includes the catering,
maintenance, housekeeping, activities, and management teams as well as the carers. The residents are offered a nutritious and varied choice of food each day. The activities program excels and leans towards a variety of subjects including music, entertainment, spiritual, nature, craft, reminiscing, quizzes, gardening, and much more. The care I have observed is always professional, respectful, and done with dignity. The resident's rooms are kept clean and well-maintained. When visiting, I am always welcomed and never restricted and I find myself being able to enjoy time with Mum rather than worrying about her - that is down to the Saxonwood team and for which I am truly thankful.

Saxonwood is extremely well run and the staff are without exception kind, caring, professional and friendly. The home is set in nice gardens at the end of a private road and the lounge and dining room are bright and sunny. It is always really clean and well-maintained. There are twice-daily activities
which reflect the seasons and topical events - a lot of effort goes into this which many residents really appreciate. The food is freshly prepared, of a high standard and caters to all tastes and diets. There is excellent communication between the staff who are always well informed and they work as a great team. It is very difficult placing a loved one into a care home and I am so pleased we found Saxonwood. My mother has lived here for a year now and I am extremely grateful to all of the dedicated staff who take such good care of her.

My mother has been living at Saxonwood for almost four years now and I am delighted with the standard of care. Saxonwood has an absolutely wonderful team of friendly and caring staff. Standards of cleanliness and hygiene are outstanding and my mother always says that the food is excellent. The management
team are wonderful and it is always easy to speak to one of them if I need to. They are great at communicating with relatives, always keeping us informed of any news and sending us the weekly list of activities. They also maintain a relatives social media page and post photos every day, which is always lovely to see. I am hugely grateful to all the team at Saxonwood and I have never doubted that I made the right choice when I chose a care home for my mother. I would highly recommend Saxonwood to anyone looking for a care home in the area.

I have found the care for my brother and his wife to be excellent. The carers, medical assistants and management team are very dedicated and treat the residents as though they were their own family. The food is excellent and well thought out and different activities take place daily.

My dad has lived happily at Saxonwood for nearly three years. I am confident that he is very well cared for and am grateful to all the staff at Saxonwood. His room is comfortable and always very clean. Dad enjoys all the meals - the food is excellent. I appreciate being able to visit at anytime and
the staff are always friendly and welcoming. There are many varied activities for residents and visitors to participate in. Dad looks forward to the regular church services held in the lounge. We have also enjoyed the special family events - garden party, barbecue, art workshops. This year, the Saxonwood team gave Dad a wonderful 100th birthday party, which the family were able to attend. I am so pleased I chose Saxonwood for Dad and we really feel part of the Saxonwood ‘family’. Thank you.

My mother moved into Saxonwood Residential Care Home in March 2023, having spent the previous nine weeks in hospital. While in hospital, Mum seemed to have given up on life and looked very weak and lethargic. My brother and I have seen a vast improvement in Mum since her move to Saxonwood. She now looks
much healthier and happier. Although she seems to be reliving her much younger days a lot of the time, she also appears to be taking an interest in what is going on around her and I'm sure the staff and various activities have been a big influence in her improved health and motor skills. Being around other people has also been beneficial, as Mum had been stuck at home on her own for a few years. Having been a keen gardener, she also loves the view from her room and being taken out in the garden in her wheelchair.

Mum moved to Saxonwood in March 2022. The fact she refers to it as 'home' says it all and she loves her room, which looks out over the local school. Her care is exemplary, nothing is too much trouble. The staff are hardworking, professional, always willing to help out and a smile is never far away.
Mum's care has been second to none. Management are superb, I am always kept up to date if there have been any issues, or anything that needs discussing. It is so reassuring to know she is safe and well cared for. The host of activities are varied, having also included projects with local schools, a great opportunity for old and young to get to know each other. There is also a lovely range of family-orientated events that are regularly put on and the accessible gardens are lovely. The menu is varied and the food is extremely good and takes Mum's food intolerances into account. She keeps telling me what a great job my husband and I did to find Saxonwood and, I have to say, I totally agree!

Saxonwood provides good and supportive care for my Dad who has dementia. Dad is included in all activities and the staff are kind and caring. Dad is comfortable, safe and the staff treat him with respect and dignity. The activities are varied and regular. The staff are creative and provide lovely events.

I started working in care in 2010 and worked my way from Care Assistant, through senior care roles, Deputy Manager to finally becoming the Care Home Manager.


I am passionate about my work. I enjoy the variety of work and meeting new people and supporting them at times when they need help and reassurance. I absolutely love bringing energy and creativity to every activity and watching how residents’ faces light up.


Residents are at the very centre of our Saxonwood family. Everything I do is with their well-being and happiness in mind. Each member of our team is dedicated to giving the best care and making a positive difference in residents’ lives every day.

The job I do plays a major role at Saxonwood as food and hospitality are always a highlight of our residents' day. I have enjoyed taking part in activities, planning, preparing, and producing food and drinks for events, getting to know the residents, receiving good feedback and implementing new menus.
