Southlands Place is located in a quiet residential area in Bexhill-on-Sea, providing quality dementia, residential and nursing care for up to 71 elderly residents on a permanent and short stay basis.

With views of the coast and beautiful countryside visible from the dining room and terraces it really is a tranquil environment. There are various lounges that are perfect for socialising, a hair salon, private dining room, bistro, cinema and a stunning landscaped garden for residents to enjoy.

The social atmosphere is enhanced by a comprehensive and flexible program of activities which focuses on physical and emotional health while looking to make the most of community links and personal interests. Every room has been designed and furnished to the highest standard. Every bedroom features ensuite facilities, ground-floor rooms have private access to the landscaped gardens, and staff encourage residents to add personal items to help create a homely atmosphere.

Since my mum move to Southlands she has been very happy. Its lovely that we can visit at any time and are always made very welcome.
Mum is looked after so well by all the lovely staff. She enjoys all the food and she has a lovely room.
The entertainment is fantastic.
The home is first class and
well managed. A+++.

I have been to a lot of fan days and events and have found that the staff and building to be excellent. I am a friend of a resident here and it doesn't matter what time of day you visit you have a lovely welcome.
The staff are all friendly and the building is very well equipped.

We had our 3-year-old grandson and his mum come over for the day and he was very excited to go and see the 'Christmas Grotto' and take part in the Christmas craft fair. It did not disappoint! The activities girls have done a fantastic job and are to be congratulated. Since my father-in-law has been
in the home, they have organised daily activities and a monthly theme.
They are worth their weight in gold.

We couldn't have found a better place for my mother during the last months of her life. She didn't want to be in a nursing home but the compassion, patience, and care shown by the staff made the transition so much easier and she settled in happily after all! Even when short-staffed she was never forgotten
or left out of activities (even though bedridden) and felt truly part of the 'family'.

Mum is a new resident. We never thought she'd leave the hospital, following a bad fall and 16 weeks in the acute ward, then rehab. She is frail, but resilient. She has had a warm welcome and loves her new room, and the lovely staff. Within a couple of days, she'd had a manicure and been to the hairdressers,
and I heard her laugh for the first time in months, when she described going into the garden to hear ukulele players entertain! Thank you Southlands!

Mum went to the care home after a spell in hospital. During her stay at the home, she was shown nothing but kindness, support and compassion by the staff, and without their help, she would not have made such a remarkable recovery.
We, as a family, can not thank the manager and her team enough for
the part they all played in Mum's health improving.
The activities kept Mum entertained throughout her stay, and Mum enjoyed her trips to the inclusive hairdresser.
If there was a criticism, the food could be hit and miss at times.

I was very pleased to entrust the care of my 85-year-old wife to Southlands Place. I found the staff very caring and nothing was too much trouble for them if I asked for anything. Many of the nurses went above and beyond their normal duties to ensure that my wife felt settled. I know that she was not
always the easiest resident/patient. I cannot comment on the food and activities and although my wife was funded I would recommend this home to anyone who is looking for an above-the-range of care.

My mother died of aspiration pneumonia and sepsis despite my repeated requests that she see a doctor. I was told there is no access to a doctor, only a paramedic. She was not given the correct nursing care she needed. I will never forgive myself for letting her be placed here.

The home is a friendly, welcoming place to be and my partner has settled in surprisingly well in a short time. Management and staff have got to know him and his likes and dislikes quickly and I have found it easy to talk to staff about any concerns I've had in this initial period. I love the fact one
can visit at any time. The food is very good and my partner's well-being has improved since he moved in.

My mother was admitted at the end of July on the 'nursing' floor. I repeatedly asked that she have access to a wheelchair but was told this wasn't possible as they didn't have the type she needed. I offered to fund it but got nowhere. My mother did not leave her room in the 3 months she was there. She
had no access to the 'wonderful entertainments' and was frequently left calling out for help. The senior management were very difficult to speak to and it was obvious they had no idea of the day to day care given to my mother.
Since moving to another home she has a dedicated wheelchair and is up and joining in with other residents. The change in her is remarkable.
To cap it all, I have still not received the deposit I paid. My dealings with the finance department have been a nightmare, emails are ignored or the statements that it will be sorted or the finance team will be in touch are just not true.

I cannot recommend Southlands Place enough. Due to Dad’s dementia, it was necessary for him to reside in a nursing home, and having been his primary carer, I was very anxious that my dad would not be guaranteed the care he needed if I wasn’t there to oversee.
All my worries were completely unfounded.
Southlands Place is a bright, modern, home-from-home with excellent facilities. The staff are amazing and cared for Dad as if he were part of their own family.
The staff were always on hand to give me updates on my dad's condition, and if I wasn’t there, they phoned me with updates.
Unfortunately, my dad’s condition deteriorated as is expected with dementia, but throughout his final days, the staff cared for both Dad and our family with the utmost care, respect, sensitivity and compassion until he passed.
I must give a special mention and our utmost thanks to three particular members of staff, as without your care, my dad and our family would not have coped with this stressful and emotional time.

Overall happy. The cooks could be better - more traditional food. It would be nice for the lounge fireplace to be on. The nurse is very kind and helpful.

The staff are so friendly and helpful. They really go out of their way and pay attention to detail. The rooms are spacious and immaculately clean. There is always a lovely variety of organised activities on offer. It's a lovely, calm and relaxing atmosphere here.

Job Title: Home Manager

I am proud to have been promoted from Deputy Manager to Home Manager at Southlands Place.


As a registered general nurse, I started out my career at Hurstwood Park Neurological Centre working in the intensive care unit specialising in brain trauma and injury, supporting patients with neurological deficits. From there I transferred my skills to working with residents living with dementia. I have previously managed Nursing Homes and supported the needs of a diverse range of residents.


As Home Manager it is important to me that our residents receive the care and respect that they deserve and that they see this as their home and family. Every day my team want to make a difference in our residents’ lives, seeing a smile on their faces and laughing makes everything worthwhile.


I have an amazing team around me and It is important to me that my team are supported in their roles to assist our residents, as well as giving them the opportunity to develop and learn new skills as this is what has helped me throughout my career. We are all passionate and committed to making Southlands Place home for all.


I have lived in the local area for over 25 years and my favourite aspect is the seafront as well as the close community spirit, including the strong relationships that our home has with the local community. Outside of work, I enjoy running and reading, as well as walking my dogs and spending time with my family and friends.
