Very reluctantly had to have my wife taken into a Care Home 5 months ago. The care my wife has received at Fairdene Lodge could not have been better which has helped to relieve some of the trauma for both of us. The staff are extremely caring and treat the residents and visitors as friends with plenty
of cups of tea and lovely food. The range of activities is really good and my wife particularly likes and enjoy the music. I am convinced that despite the heartache, my wife could not be in a better place and I am extremely grateful for what is done for her and all the other residents.

Every time I arrive, it is like the door being opened to this large family. Kindness from everyone who works there, to each other, to the residents and to me every time I am there, which to be fair is quite often! Always smiles and calmness from every single member of staff, which I feel gives me such
a feeling of calmness too. This has been consistent since the day I first called and a particular staff member answered and guided us as a family through a stressful transition from home to Fairedeane.

Very caring hard-working staff. My mother is so well looked after. The surroundings and food is superb. Seven members of staff in particular, just to name a few, always make my visits informative and welcoming. All the staff have a smile and are so caring. My mother has been living at Fairdene for nearly
a year and is so relaxed and looked after. Well done to every member of staff (I know it's a tough job).
Fairdene also run a lot of events for the residents - 1960 bands, special adapted bicycle rides, etc - great to see.

We have always found all of the staff welcoming, efficient and caring - proficient in all they do. We applaud the management. We are impressed by the activities provided and for the excursions our resident with you receives. We are extremely grateful for the expertise of the dementia nursing and staffing.
Although on occasions it is inevitably noisy all the residents are treated with respect and their dignity upheld - each is quite obviously valued as a person in their own right. The decoration of the rooms and stairways is good and we were especially impressed by the Christmas decorations out in the beautiful gardens, front and back. It is a warm and inviting home for residents and we have the impression that the staff regard it as such too. Thank you.

My mum has been in the home for a year and she is extremely happy. She is well looked after and treated with respect and dignity. I visit her each week and I am always made to feel welcome. The staff are incredibly patient, which is important especially when working with people with dementia. I cannot
praise the home’s care enough, along with the range of stimulating activities they provide, including entertainers, sports activities, visits and entertainment from local schools and colleges, film shows and trips out to the seafront and cafes. The regular trips with a local charity offering piloted cycle rides are brilliant too. The involvement of family in various events and activities, as well as via social media is also a huge positive.

This care home has been looking after my relative for nearly 2 years. The home is managed daily by knowledgeable and supportive people who understand dementia and the carers always have a smile when I come to visit. The home is clean and has had a makeover. The garden is a bonus and the residents enjoy
the outside space and the staff host barbecues in the spring/summer. There are activities every month, pedal cycle for trips on the seafront, outings to seafront cafes and in the home there are singers, city mission church, skittles, films and pet pals which my relative loves. The females have their nails painted and all residents benefit from the foot spas and massages with hairdressing too. Recently my relative didn’t want the provided dinner and requested a salad and the chef made a wonderful ham and cheese salad instead. If my relative was home alone life would be isolating as Fairdene provides entertainment, socialisation, 3 meals a day and a safe environment.

I visit my mum as often as I can, and I always find her looking happy, and well presented. Staff are approachable and attentive. During Covid the home and staff worked extra hard to keep the virus at bay. Mum seems settled and I feel happy knowing she is well cared for.

We did not choose Fairdene Lodge - the authorities chose for us as it was during the Covid lockdown and they felt, as did the Team at the home, that they could care well for Mum with her Lewy Body Dementia. So it proved to be! We were extremely pleased with her care. The team personified TLC to the
letter - such tender, loving care and kindness with patience, gentleness and the utmost respect during her two and a half years there. Mum was extremely happy and allowed to roam free and eat as many biscuits as she liked! She never displayed signs of anguish, anxiety or unhappiness - she was happy and content. There was always some activity or other going on to engage in and videos and photos were uploaded to the Private Facebook Group page to keep us abreast of all that had been happening. I always looked forward to seeing Mum joining in or seeing her roaming around in the distance or out in the lovely garden doing her thing! A super place - very highly recommended.

My sister is getting excellent care at Fairdene. They go above and beyond to ensure her experience there is the best it can be. By taking her to the shops, Hospital app, getting a lovely sun chair in the garden for her. They are always making so much effort to get the things she needs. The staff are
super friendly and she has great communication with them. They organise wonderful events both in the summer...garden parties and at Christmas, which we enjoy just as much as the residents. Everywhere the standard of the home is very high. They always invest in the home...new chairs...garden plants etc. We are always made welcome and our visiting experiences are one we enjoy. Cannot thank them enough for the commitment to my sister during this difficult time. Lovely to see a good ratio of staff to residents.

Fairdene Lodge Care Home has a warm and stimulating atmosphere. The staff are engaging and kind. The extracurricular stuff they have for music and a church service seems very important and nourishing to residents. I'm very happy my dad is being looked after so well. Thank you.

Our sister has been in their first-class care since last year, and she has never looked so well; they made us all so welcome. From the management to the cleaners, they are all exceptional. The home is immaculate, the food amazing, and we are kept informed of any issues when they happen. They provide
activities if the residents wish to participate, and our sister loves the seafront tuk-tuk rides. The gardens are beautiful, and the newly extended conservatory lounge just finishes it off. We could not be happier that our sister is not only in such a beautiful home but, more importantly, being so well looked after. It is a huge relief for all of us as a family. 10/10.

The home is always clean and tidy with plenty of activities for the resisdents to take part in and the garden is an amazing space. The staff are very welcoming and always have time for us when we visit regularly. They treat all
the residents with compassion and respect and provide a very high standard of care.

Fairdene Lodge have been exceptional in looking after Mum and Dad who both have severe dementia/Alzheimers. The staff are, without exception, friendly, attentive and caring and they always have a smile on their face. When we made the difficult decision to move Mum and Dad into a care home we looked
at several places and Fairdene was by far the best and we are so thankful that the staff and management have made the process so much easier and have welcomed Mum and Dad into the community with open arms. The facilities are excellent - they have a lovely room together and the place is always clean, tidy, fresh and very homely. There are always activities and these keep the residents stimulated and smiling. Mum had to go into hospital recently and the management went above and beyond to get her back to Fairdene as quickly as possible and she was so pleased to return. We are made to feel very welcome on our weekly visits and nothing is too much trouble. Very highly recommended.

My aunt has been in Fairdene for 3 years. The accommodation is excellent, well looked after and clean. The furniture and nick-nacks are updated regularly. Building maintenance and decorating is first class. Every member of staff is caring, and supportive and treats each resident as an individual with
respect, kindness, empathy and understanding. All residents are referred to by name and their likes, dislikes, health issues and individual preferences are known to staff. Regular staff meetings happen. My aunt is always well presented, wearing what she loves - brightly coloured clean clothes. Extra attention paid to residents' hair, feet and nails increase general well-being. Social media communication means I am totally confident my aunt is well looked after and supported. There are many interesting and stimulating activities daily and outdoor events. All residents are happy and laugh greatly, as seen on Facebook and witnessed on visits. I could not imagine a better home with a very well used garden.

Fairdene Lodge Care Home and its staff have my true respect and gratitude, they are exceptional! My mother has severe Alzheimer's and when she had to move to Fairdene Lodge it was during lockdown rules for Covid. This was of course a traumatic time for my mother and ourselves and without the care and
consideration of the staff, who would do anything to help at any time, it could have been even worse. They look after her with kindness, understanding and consideration, I could never thank them enough for. Mum has now been there for one and a half years and her big, beaming smile is plain to see in the numerous updates I see of her. Fairdene Lodge truly puts the residents in their every thought, they plan stimulating events for each day to keep the minds engaged and fun events to create those smiles, you only have to look at their social media pages to see just a few of the multitude of differing events they create and the hard work they do. Then you add the amazing garden/structures/decor all to help the residents, 10/10.

My mother-in-law has always been looked after very well. They have so many activities going on all the time. Whenever you go into the care home, all the residents are together joining in if they want to. Lots of smiles, laughing and dancing. Always someone to talk to if you need to know anything. A
very bright, clean, homely environment. Always a pleasure to visit.

Excellent care home. I looked at most in Brighton for my mum, and came away feeling very disheartened with most, then luckily walked into Fairdene Lodge, greeted me and was so friendly and made the whole experience an enjoyable one, all the staff are so lovely. I was amazed how beautifully clean it
was, and the room they showed me was amazing (that my mum moved into 3 weeks later) it’s as good as a hotel beautifully decorated. The garden was a big thing for me as it’s just wonderful. It’s a warm and friendly home, which offers excellent care. My mum has been there over 2 years now and had made some great friendships with residents and staff. Very happy indeed knowing mum is happy and being well cared for.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.720)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.720) out of 10 for Fairdene Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.968 for Fairdene Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (92 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.968

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.752 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Fairdene Lodge is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 42 registered maximum number of service users is 8.4. 8 Positive Reviews ÷ 8.4 = 0.952

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
