The staff are amazing, they take great care of the residents and the visitors are made to feel very welcome. It's a lovely, friendly and caring home.

The house is kept very clean and tidy and the atmosphere is homely, friendly and relaxed. The staff are excellent, warm and helpful. One staff member says it all: she got fed up with the impersonal business model of larger care homes, joined the team here and says "It's the best move I've ever made".
The whole place feels like a large family. And the care our friend has received has been second to none - present and respectful but not intrusive. Thank you, everyone.

My mother has been in Place Farm House for just over six weeks after a very long stay in hospital. The care team have been so welcoming and reassuring. Nothing is too much trouble for them. The house is very bright and cheery and there are lots of activities. The garden is excellent for sitting out
in the sunshine. We're very pleased with our choice for Mum.

Extremely helpful manager and kind staff. Great thought taken over what makes residents feel comfortable. The difference for my uncle between being at home in a dilapidated house by himself to being well cared for and properly looked after. Since I live far away like relatives portal has been incredibly
helpful. My uncle has had his dignity returned to him and we worry no more!

Staff are so nice cannot do enough for you nothing is too much trouble. Always make you welcome they also got my mum to join in with things and mix with everyone something she has not done for a long time so nice to see her happy. Put on weight the first 4 days she was in there said food was lovely
we could not have picked anything better.

The staff at the have made us always feel welcome, the home was small and friendly and could give one to one support to my mother in the little time, she was there. It was a shame she had a fall and then went downhill very quickly. I would recommend your home to anyone looking for a care home you are
really giving a good service.

My mother joined Place Farm House in December 2020 for respite care while her shoulder healed. Sadly she contracted Covid-19 on January 1st and died on January 20th. Whilst this was devastating for our family, I cannot speak highly enough of the personal care given to her during her stay and the empathetic
way staff engaged with us. The staff treated her with dignity and provided over and above the personal care and attention expected, almost as if she was a member of their own family: her carers in particular. During lockdown, we were able to use Facetime and telephone to communicate regularly and were kept particularly well informed. As she became progressively unwell, we were consulted daily about her wellbeing and her wishes, the GP was contacted and community nurses visited. The staff helped us to communicate via Facetime the day before she died and enabled me to sit with her in full PPE the night of her death. All staff were highly professional and compassionate.

Our experience with Place Farm House is extremely positive. They care for my mother wonderfully and she is very happy there. The way they have handled Covid 19 is impeccable, there have been no cases there. The manager is the most professional we have ever come across and all the staff are happy, helpful,
competent and a great team.

Place Farm made the early decision to lockdown in very early March 2020 well before the Government guidelines.
They have been strict with visitors enabling them to see their loved ones at initially through glass doors outside the building and then with a screen 2 metres from the resident. I know the
staff change their clothes into scrubs when they enter the building and wear face coverings continuously. I have been pleased with their handling of Covid-19.

During these difficult times, they have successfully been able to find a balance which allows us to keep in contact with my father. On his 90th birthday, we were able to deliver a cake and gifts and see and speak to him from the entrance gate while he sat in the driveway at safe distance. He has mixed
dementia, but the effects of it do not seem to have changed much, we believe it is their constant review of his medication with his doctor which has a great effect on this. We have been so lucky in finding a place for him here.

My father-in-law has been at Place Farm House for 9 months. He's had amazing care. He's got a lovely room and is so well looked after. They can't do enough for him. The food is amazing and they will always take great care in doing everything to make him happy.

From the start, very efficient at taking over dad's care.
Very friendly and accommodating staff, who take care of his every need and keep us well informed.
Not sure how dad would settle as his first time in a care home but he is very happy and has asked to stay here.

We found Place Farm House ourselves after visiting other local care homes and reviewing CQC reports. The environment and staff are strikingly caring, compassionate and person-centred. We really trusted them based on initial conversations, meetings and the reaction to my partner's mother, who was confused
and disorientated. They quickly got a plan in place, got to know her well and activated referrals to relevant services. We felt very well supported and continue to place our trust in this service.

Karen Reid

Job Title: Registered Manager

I initially joined Place Farm as the Deputy Manager in July 2017 and then became the Registered Manager in September 2019. I worked previously as a Deputy Manager in a Dementia Nursing Home in Brighton for four years. I have worked in care since I left school and it has always been my passion to help and care for others. I have obtained my level 5 in Leadership Management & Health and Social care to allow me to progress into management.

Place Farm House is such a welcoming, homely place for our lovely residents and their families. The staff commitment to give outstanding care is portrayed from the wonderful feedback the home receives from professionals and relatives alike. Having worked alongside Andy the owner, I have developed Place Farm's service to ensure it provides intimate care to our residents and we have the best staff who are supported and enjoy their work. Care work is a vocation and we believe strongly in providing a considerate and fun environment for them to develop as people.


Longer-term, I am really enthused about improving Place Farm House with the aim to be an Outstanding rated care home one day.


Mandy

Mandy Porter

Job Title: Senior Carer

Joined: 2001

Mandy lives and breathes Place Farm having worked with us since 2001. Mandy was made Welfare Champion in 2017 and then in 2020 she stepped up to become our senior carer. This is a wide and varied role which supports the care staff on the floor, but also supporting Charlie and Karen in management work such as care plans and medication. Mandy enjoys seeing the residents are happy and comfortable in their lives at Place Farm and looks after the presentation of the bedrooms to ensure they nice and homely for the residents.


Mandy says: "We are committed to this as a team to ensure Place Farm House remains one of the best residential Homes in Sussex and dare I say, in the UK. It's been tough times in the care sector with COVID but our staff are second to none and when it comes to Place Farm, it is how a residential home should be."

Andrew Bown

Job Title: Owner

Joined: 2016

We are a family run care home and took Place Farm on in September 2016. I was the Registered Manager between 2016 and 2019 and this allowed me to intimately understand the running of the home and develop and strengthen how we provide care to our residents and recruit the best staff to enable this.


I believe that a quality home and service comes from leading by example and setting the highest standards throughout the home to give our staff pride in their daily work life and working at Place Farm House. I am a very hands-on owner, living nearby in Brighton and I want Place Farm to be the best home in Brighton so it not only does justice to the name, but also, justice to the outstanding quality care I think we already provide.


My previous work background has been in care, particularly having grown up in my teenage years at our other home, Abbey lodge in Kent. I qualified as a nurse in 2007 and have had experience in various hospital care settings including elderly and post-surgical care. I have gained healthcare management experience in NHS primary care and commercial experience in the Pharmaceutical industry and latterly in business development and marketing for BMI Healthcare, a national private hospital provider. This experience has been consolidated by completing a Business Management HND at Brighton Business School in 2015.


I am now the manager at our Worthing home (The Shelley) and I continue to support Place Farm and Karen on a daily and weekly basis to ensure it remains as good as it can be
