Situated close to all amenities of Pulborough, The Anchorage is set in beautifully maintained and peaceful grounds enjoying views towards the South Downs. The home provides residential care in 36 single rooms, many with garden views and all with en-suite facilities. In addition to extensive communal areas for the use of residents, their families and friends, the gardens provide a charming space in which to relax in the summer months.

A strong management team and a well-equipped and modern care environment support the fully trained and experienced care teams.
An in-house team of chefs specialise in traditional home cooking with menus that offer a range of choice using, wherever possible, produce from the fruit and vegetable garden. Carers encourage all residents to invite friends and family to join them for lunch, morning coffee or afternoon tea.

My mother came to The Anchorage Care Home for a type of respite stay after being discharged from the hospital. The care and kindness she has received has been outstanding. The staff that work there - all the areas within the Home, from Management (manager and deputy), the nurses, carers and catering
- can't do enough to help; I observed them continually being on hand to give support and help to the residents. They all seem to have such a positive and friendly manner to everyone. My mother's case has been particularly challenging at times and yet all the staff coped so well with dealing with so many aspects of it. They have been able to effectively liaise with the GP (there is a local specified GP from the local medical practice who visits regularly and ad-hoc), with the Clinical Lead and other professionals involved in my mother's care. Nothing seems too much trouble for them. A special mention goes out to two staff members in particular, who are super-proactive - but they're all lovely!

The staff are extra special about caring in an individual way. The home offers a comfortable and extremely friendly atmosphere which makes a huge difference. The meals are of high quality and residents are encouraged to join at mealtimes in the dining room. Visitors are most welcome all the time and
the garden and outlook is well maintained which offers residents plenty of opportunity to relax outside in the summer.

We feel our friend had a very positive experience when she stayed at The Anchorage. She said the staff were very kind and attentive. She found the food to be of an excellent standard. Although she was there for respite she has said she would be happy to stay there again, perhaps having it as her permanent

The staff of The Anchorage have been so caring and helpful to Mum. She was very happy staying here and loved going for a ride in the wheelchair into the garden and seeing the fish pond. I think outdoor space was important to Mum, even just looking out of the window and seeing the comings and goings
of people outside was nice for her. I always felt that the staff had time for Mum and have been very supportive to me and my family, especially at this moment in time. Many thanks to you all.

The manager and her team went above and beyond to make Mum's respite care a wonderful experience. It really was 'home from home' which is what she needed. Having been unwell for a few weeks she has now returned home healthier, stronger and ready to return to independent living. Thank you all.

My aunt stayed at The Anchorage for four weeks last year, she was very well looked after. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. The home was kept very clean and tidy. We were all made to feel very welcome. There was a good range of activities to keep my aunt entertained. The home is light and
airy and the decoration of the home is lovely. My aunt's visitors were very impressed with how lovely the home was.

The Anchorage is very much a home-from-home. My mum has been a resident for nearly 18 months and she says there is nothing she would change. Thanks to the wonderful staff - it feels like one big family.

Overall very good, lovely people, well organised, a credit to all the staff that I came in contact with, plus the background staff, i.e. caterers and laundry. Only complaint I'm a big man with lack of ability so the toilet could have been higher. Seat extensions are not suitable.

The Anchorage has provided care for my mother for the last 18 months. The staff have all been excellent and all are approachable if there are any queries I may have. The management, in particular, has been excellent, always available to talk and take time to inform me how my mother is.
The care home
is always clean and there are many activities available for the residents.

The Anchorage in Pulborough is an excellent care home that looks after our mother with great care and affection for our mother. The staff are all professional, helpful, caring and as all the residents say "are like an extended family". The Anchorage feels like a friendly home rather than a medical/clinical
institution. In a word... excellent.

I would like to comment on the excellent care which my mother received during a recent outbreak of Covid. The outbreak affected about six residents who needed to be isolated in their rooms, this massively impacted on the staff workload as dining room service was suspended and every resident took their
meals in their room. In addition, full PPE had to be worn when attending those who were sick. However, extra staff were engaged from an agency which has links with The Anchorage and high standards of care were maintained. All staff should be congratulated for this.

In early summer 2022, I researched care homes that were close to Billingshurst West Sussex with a view to booking my 96-year-old mother in for two weeks of respite care. We visited and were impressed with the facilities, management and staff. As an independent woman, still living alone, she reluctantly
agreed to the stay. In the summer of 2023, we booked again, but I knew at 97, in frail health, she would not be returning home. One week into her stay she was admitted to hospital for five weeks. On regaining her health and being fit for discharge The Anchorage visited her in St Richard's and the Manager offered her a place back at the home. I was relieved. I have visited many care homes. The Anchorage is in a different league. The staff are truly wonderful. Loving and caring. The building oozes happiness. The food is restaurant/hotel standard. The rooms with ensuite are fabulous. The entertainment is jolly and inclusive. Mum died there in December loved and cared for in her home from home.

My aunt decided she wanted to become a resident after a short respite stay. She has found the transition quite difficult but everyone has made her feel valued and welcome.
There have been a couple of occasions where communication might have been slightly better in terms of her expectations but, overall,
all the staff members have listened to her needs and responded promptly, courteously and kindly.

I was a resident from late September 2023 until mid-November 2023 following a long stay in hospital.
I found the home to be a great place. I was looked after very well by the excellent staff, who are very caring.
The activities programme is varied and well set up and does help to make the time pass
well. There is a mix of physical and fun activities to suit all.
The home is well-managed which gave my family confidence I was being well treated. I always felt safe.
There is a good spirit in the home with a lot of laughter.
I am now home and doing well thanks to the time I spent at the home but I do miss my ‘Anchorage friends’.

I started working on the domestic team at The Anchorage in 2013. I soon realised that my passion for caring for the elderly could be fulfilled better in a care role, so I joined the care team in 2017.


I went on to complete my NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care and had my promotion to Deputy Care Manager in 2022.


In my spare time, I enjoy walking my dog Dexter and having family time.
