Byway House is an exceptional home from home. It's like walking in to a warm hug. The staff are friendly, kind and knowledgeable . There is alway a big welcome when I visit , always an offer of tea and cake and nothing is too much trouble to make life as normal as possible for my friend. The best bit
( easily the drummer) is that I can still enjoy activities with my friend in the comfort of her home.

My close friend has been at Byway House for a few years. The home is more like a home, and is called a Residential Home for the Elderly. Residents have their own rooms, my friend having one of the bigger rooms. The staff are very caring and friendly. If there's any problems they sort it with kindness
and great care. Being a small home, the residents are all known to each other and can ahare meals in the dinning room, or join in with excersise, flower arranging and other forms of entertainment. The residents can go out shopping with staff or family. Family are always included in any events the home put on. I would recommend Byway House to anyone needing a home from home for their famil/friends.

The staff are very friendly and caring. Mum would enjoy a walk up the byway but the carers as often too busy. Mum enjoys the drumming as she finds it very therapeutic. Mum also enjoys the flower arranging as she finds it very stimulating. Mum enjoys the food as the choices are excellent. Mum is very
happy in the byway.

Hi K, Thank you for your review. every review is greatly appreciated. we have loved looking after mum for the years she has been with us.mum loves her morning routine and as previously discussed especially of late mum has declined her walks up the Byway with staff. we will always continue to offer this to mum as we know this is important to her. there has been 1 or 2 occasions where mum has wanted a walk during our personal care morning hours and unfortunately these were unable to take place at that precis time, staff will then offer mum a walk when they are available which will be within the morning hours.

My mother was looked after at the Byway House Care Home for eleven years after entering the home with arthritis. A lot of the staff were consistent during this time and she considered them as fiends more than carers. She later progressed into dementia and was sometimes difficult but as a care home,
they continued to care for needs. The home is small and friendly, close to the village centre and within walking distance of the beach. Being small, the home isn't able to offer the same level of facility as larger homes but Mother preferred the family atmosphere. My sister and I never had any second thoughts about the Byway.

Through her time at Byway, all the staff gave Mum the very best care and looked after her with the utmost dignity, respect and consideration. This became especially so as she was approaching the end of her life and it was of enormous comfort to us to know she was being so beautifully looked after.
Byway
is a very well looked after home, with lovely decoration and a definite 'homely' feel. Mum was really comfortable in her lovely room, which was always kept very clean and tidy. The staff are a fantastic team and go above and beyond what their job would call for.

Mum was at Byway House for just over six years. During that time, the staff cared for her with respect and kindness. The staff were always welcoming, helpful and very supportive to both Mum and myself. The home is clean, well-maintained and always a pleasure to visit. I would recommend Byway House.

Our mum was a resident of Byways for 5 years and during that time the care and kindness she received was outstanding.
The staff were always helpful and very thoughtful, supporting us as well as Mum during her final days.

I am extremely happy. Mum has never wanted to live in a residential home, but unfortunately, earlier in the year she no longer felt safe at home and since coming to live at Byway House she is very happy and so much more relaxed than she has been for a long time. The staff at the care home are all very
friendly and welcoming. The managers are especially nice. Nothing is too much for them. If they can do something for Mum and the wider family, they will.

So relieved to have found such an outstanding care home for my dad. The staff are very friendly and helpful, always going the extra mile. Management is excellent and very proactive - engaging family with care and support. The home itself is light and airy and feels very calm and homely. Dad is very
happy with the food, and there are plenty of activities. It's such a weight off my mind to know dad is being looked after so well.

Byways is friendly, clean and seems well organised. The staff I have encountered all appear to get on very well with the residents. The residents I visit regularly seem happy and appear well cared for. I would recommend Byways to anyone.

Byway House feels like a home from home. It's bright, airy and kept spotlessly clean. A peaceful environment with a lovely garden for residents and visitors to enjoy. The dedicated staff are helpful, friendly and happy - nothing is too much trouble for them. The food is freshly prepared and delicious.
My father is into his third week in Byway House and has settled very happily, so much so I am completely confident he is int he very best place he could be under the circumstances.

My mother has been in this home for 7 months. The carers are amazing all of them. The home is extremely clean, nice food although sometimes I feel the teatime meal is slightly lacking, probably difficult as they have 16 people to cater for. Maybe more fish, salads, pizza etc.
The manager is extremely
caring for her residents and very organised. They have a maintenance man, nothing is too much trouble. I am extremely happy that my mother is in Byway House.

This is my 2nd review of Byway House, and now my mother has been there over a year. All of my previous comments, which were all positive, still stand. The home is not a purpose built modern Care Home, but we have decided that 'small is beautiful' and I feel more and more confident that my mother is
in safe hands. It is rare nowadays that I request a Dr's visit, for example, as they spot the need, take action and keep me informed. I visit nearly every day, and I am always greeted with a cheery smile and the offer of a cuppa. I sometimes find my mother chatting with one of the 'girls', reminiscing or going through photo albums, and she really enjoys their company. One of the girls once downloaded her favourite music onto her IPAD, which was extremely thoughtful. We cannot thank the staff enough and my mother frequently says how kind everyone is - but it is much more - they know her as an individual and now, after a trip out, my mother says that she is ready to 'go home'!

The staff at Byway House are always welcoming and the home is clean and well maintained. My mother has been a resident for just over a month. The staff have been kind and taken the time to listen and reassure her about her situation. She still has concerns about leaving her home, but with the help and
guidance of the staff, she is beginning to look upon Byway House as her new home. My mother enjoys the social interaction at meal times, the food is excellent and she has put on a little weight. The social activities also give structure to her day. Overall, we are delighted to find such a caring home.

Current Review Score: 9.3 (9.345)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.3 (9.345) out of 10 for Byway House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.5 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.845 for Byway House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (50 Excellents x 5) + (7 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.845

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Byway House Care Home is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 18 registered maximum number of service users is 3.6, which has been reached with 5 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
