I can't praise all of the staff at Cornelius House highly enough. My aunt and uncle have been residents there now for a couple of months and are so well looked after, the care given to them has been superb and therefore the family have no need to worry about them. The house has been undergoing a refurbishment
recently and all the rooms look great. They put on a great deal of activities for the residents which really stimulates them and the food is very good, it always looks delicious. Visitors are always warmly welcomed, I recommend Cornelius House to everyone.

My lovely grandparents have recently come to stay at Cornelius House, and from the moment they arrived, they have been very well looked after and made to feel welcome, the staff here are fantastic! And you can clearly see that they genuinely care about their residents, and enjoy being there. I sleep
well at night, knowing they are in very good hands, in a clean and comfortable environment.

From the moment Mum arrived, every member of staff made it a priority to make the transition as easy as possible for both Mum and her family, and their kindness to us all was boundless.
Since then no effort has been spared to help Mum settle and become part of the Cornelius House family, and we are
always so warmly greeted when we visit.
The house is always clean and fresh and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
The staff are caring and vigilant and are always aware of any changes in Mum's health or needs.
There are a varied range of daily activities and the staff work hard to make sure everyone is included and has time to pursue hobbies and interests at their own level of ability.
A daily choice of delicious home-cooked meals is provided, and individual preferences are happily catered for.
The staff, in all roles, work as a dedicated, cheerful team providing the very best all-round care for our mum and peace of mind for the family.

The caring ethos and the teamwork among the staff were impressive. Their patience, kindness, and encouragement aided my recovery. My mother-in-law has lived at Cornelius House for nearly four months and I cannot speak highly enough of the outstanding care she has received. The carers are so kind and thoughtful, my husband and I have also been made to feel very welcome whenever we visit, nothing is too much trouble. The food is
excellent, my mother-in-law is a fussy eater but has praised the meals she has had, and has a good choice. The managers have gone out of their way to help her settle in, she is a very sociable person and has really enjoyed the trips, activities and entertainment on offer. We have just recently enjoyed the summer party with the most fantastic afternoon tea, it was lovely for us to spend the afternoon together enjoying the band in the sun - it felt like home.

My mother has been a resident for a few months from the spring of 2023. It was a difficult transition for her from home living and she has needed patient support from the staff at Cornelius House. She has certainly received that. There is a significant and successful effort to support her wishes. Great
effort is made to include and engage residents with interesting activities including trips away from the home. Visitors always receive a warm welcome. Overall we have been delighted with care offered.

My mum was a resident here for almost two and a half years before she passed away in January.
There is a full range of social activities on offer at Cornelius House Care Home and Mum chose to join in with almost all of them and enjoyed spending time doing drawing, painting, clay modelling, bingo,
board games, exercise classes, carpet bowls, carpet darts, flower arranging (and probably other things I didn't see) as well as being provided with word searches and other activities to do at other times.
She particularly enjoyed all the carefully prepared meals and homemade cakes.
Cornelius House is a relatively small care home. As a result, it feels homely rather than institutional.
There is an amazing staff team, most of whom have worked at Cornelius for a long time. They are very caring and we are grateful in particular for their amazing care and support for her in her last days.

My mother was a resident here for nearly two years before she passed away in December. Throughout her time there she was exceptionally well cared for by the wonderful team of carers and other staff. The respect and love shown to her by the staff were lovely to see. Her final days were handled with enormous
care and respect, and at all times we were completely comfortable that she was happy and content to be there.
Mum chose to spend a lot of time in her own room, rather than joining others in the many and varied activities offered. The staff respected this, whilst ensuring that she was aware of what was available.
The ethos of the home is that the staff are working in the home of the residents and that this is a privilege.
The staff were also very caring of me and my family, ensuring that we were well informed about Mum and comfortable with any specific care she needed.
We are so glad that Mum was able to spend her last days surrounded by such a lovely team of caring people.

My mother has resided at Cornelius House for just over five years and has been extremely well cared for by the care manager and her fine team of nurses, carers, caterers, and cleaners. The home is always welcoming, warm, comfortable, spotlessly clean, and well-maintained. The support staff are caring,
efficient and dedicated, often in trying circumstances. Well done everybody, we do appreciate the consistently high standards.

We moved Mum into Cornelius House late 2020, right in the middle of Covid. We were impressed with all the precautions that had been taken and the move went smoothly.
Since then Mum has enjoyed all the creature comforts offered by Cornelius House and we couldn't be happier knowing she is being looked
after so well.
The chef always makes sure mealtimes are plentiful, and the staff are always arranging different activities for the residents to keep them occupied and their minds active. Cleanliness and hygiene are always top priority and Mum always looks (and smells) really nice.
All in all the home is run by people who care and the staff are wonderful. I guess you could say it really is a "Care Home" in the true meaning.

My father entered Cornelius House in July 2021 after suffering a couple of falls at home and becoming
frailer and finding it difficult to cope, particularly during the pandemic. He was very reluctant to leave his own home and missed it terribly at first, but with the excellent care he is receiving
at Cornelius House he is very settled and happy there. Heather runs a fantastic team. Everybody is so friendly and the level of professionalism and care is exemplary. My father is not always the easiest man, but the staff understands him well and he now feels so comfortable with everybody and enjoys joining in with the many activities. The homemade cooked food there is also excellent. He suffered terribly from loneliness during the lockdown, and so really enjoys the company and hubbub of life in the home. It really does feel like home from home. He had to have a brief hospital stay recently and was just longing to get back to his room. Cornelius House really is a lovely place.

Both my parents live at Cornelius House receiving first-class care in all respects. The staff are wonderful, caring and competent, nothing is too much trouble. Cornelius House was recommended to us and we are delighted with the care the staff are giving our aunt. Moving from her home and acknowledging that she required more support was never going to be easy for her but the warmth, sensitivity, and care she has received helped her settle in swiftly. She
prefers not to join in the activities provided but is enjoying the attention and interaction with the caring staff, and most of all, the personal interest the chef has taken to understand and accommodate her dietary preferences.
We have been impressed by the management and leadership at Cornelius House, especially through the Covid period. As relatives, we receive regular updates about the care home’s activities and timely feedback on our aunt’s care.

Job Title: Care Manager

I have worked in Health & Social Care for over 20 years and joined Cornelius House permanently last September as their Care Manager. Since leaving school, I have always worked in caring roles but gained my passion for working with the elderly when I returned to work as a care assistant in the community after having my children, working my way up into managerial roles.


I have a strong commitment to ensuring that our residents at Cornelius are enabled to have the best quality of life possible, ensuring that both their physical and psychological well-being are as important as each other. Our mantra is if we look after the physical health we are also looking after the psychological health and vice versa.


As a manager, I see my role as supporting my team to achieve the visions and goals of the home. We pride ourselves on creating a ‘home from home’ atmosphere, where everyone is part of the Cornelius family.


The last six months have been a time of transition for Cornelius, but with the support of the staff, residents and their families we have achieved so much in a short space of time. I can say with a strong conviction that I am proud of everyone involved and proud to be part of the team.

Here at Cornelius House it is like one big family, with our residents and staff it’s a home away from home, and I really enjoy working here at Cornelius.


I have been in care since I was 17, I left school and went to college to study health and social care. I have now been in care for 10 years and intend to stay here for as long as possible as it is where my passion is.


I started here at Cornelius House in 2018 as a Carer, within 6 months I was promoted to senior and then within the next year, I was made Team Leader and now have progressed to Deputy Manager. I am proud of my progress and the opportunities I have been given within the home.


I have always been passionate about giving the best care to the elderly for their lasting years and making it as special as possible. It is always a pleasure.


As a Deputy Manager, I am proud to say that we have an amazing team that will always jump to support each other, and nothing is too much trouble.

My name is Paul and I have worked at Cornelius House for almost nine years. I started my career on the YTS (Youth Training Scheme) at the end of 1985 at a college in Brighton. I was highly motivated to begin with but after a year or so, I left the catering industry to focus on engineering where I stayed for a number of years.


In the early 90’s I decided to do some travelling in the West Country and settled down in Paignton where I worked in a hotel as a waiter for a few years. After a while I decided to re-engage my love and passion for cooking by accepting my first job in a care home based in Birdham, near Chichester. I had lost a lot of techniques and flair for cooking but with encouragement I gained all of that that back rapidly with my passion for creating a flair for cooking traditional food for elderly residents.


Over the next few years I continued to build my portfolio by incorperating both new and old dishes to menus for all seasons and for all tastes.


In 2012 I joined Cornelius house as a part time chef and after 4 years I took over the as Head Chef with full responsibility of the kitchen. Since James and Gary took over as owers of Cornelius House in late 2020, I was at first a little apprehensive on what was expected of myself. I found out fairly quickly that the commitment that James and Gary have for the residents both at Greensleeves and now Cornelius are second to none. I am now leading a small team where i am managing a handful of dedicted kitchen staff whom also have a passion for caring about the residents dietry needs. As a team I am looking forward to the journey we are undertaking here.


Finally, a chef, no matter how good I can be, it's not good cooking for yourself; the joy is in cooking for others...it’s the same with music. To me, there's no passionate chef without a great team.
