Crossways Residential Care Home is situated in the beautiful village of Lindfield with quick and easy access to Haywards Heath, while being a short walk from the village amenities, including local shops and Haywards Heath train station, this allows all residents to pursue an active and fulfilling lifestyle as much as they wish. Crossways Care Home offers permanent care and respite care and provides the highest possible for up to 25 elderly residents.

All rooms are decorated and fully furnished and the team encourage residents and family members to bring their own personal belongings to make their room home from home. 20 of the rooms have en-suite facilities and all rooms come with telephone, TV and internet connection points.

All residents may be as private as they wish or make use of the friendly atmosphere in the main lounge or dining areas – Crossways benefits from an activity coordinator who plans a wide range of daily activities and events that can be enjoyed by everyone. Events and activities are based on residents' likes, dislikes and feedback to ensure they are inclusive and remain varied.

The hairdresser visits twice weekly and a chiropodist and optician are available on request. There are weekly exercise classes and art classes, pets as therapy and the annual summer BBQ, as well as regular musical entertainers.

Dining is an important part of the day and at Crossways with the qualified chefs, they make wholesome food for all residents, with all dietary and nutritional requirements catered for. The home's chefs take pride in producing a varied and well-prepared menu, using fresh locally sourced ingredients, catering for all tastes and preferences, with Sunday lunch being a firm residents' favourite.

Families are encouraged to have lunch with their family members and bookings can be made in advance.

The dedicated team of carers look forward to extending their family with new residents.

My mother moved from her home to Crossways in 2015 and immediately felt like home. Her mental and physical health improved dramatically mainly due to the kind and passionate 24 hour a day care she received. Excellent.

Crossways delivered excellent respite care for my mother - aged 92. They were faultless in their care and attention to my mother's needs. The food was delicious and very appealing, a fundamental part of good care.
The staff were always friendly and very welcoming to all our family, nothing was too
much trouble.
All in all an excellent home!

Our mum went into Crossways in June 2016. The care and attention all the staff gave to our mum was excellent all the time. We could not have asked for anything better.

My mother was reaching the end of her life. The staff are always professional but compassionate and caring, respecting my mother's dignity and individuality. Within her final week, her end of life care was outstanding and she died very peacefully amongst people who understood her and truly cared as
they did for us as well. A very special place.

My mother has been in the care home since early July 2016. Until early May she was living at home with me but after several serious illnesses was too frail at 100 years old to return home despite spending several weeks in a rehabilitation centre. We never wanted her to go into care but we both feel
that she could not have found a better home. The staff at Crossways have been marvellous with her, helping her settle in and caring for her every need. She has been encouraged to overcome her small difficulties and loves her life at Crossways.

My father moved into Crossways in February 2013 following a stroke which left him wheelchair bound. For the most part the staff were very kind, caring and supportive to both my father and our family. Unfortunately, my father suffered from a chest infection which meant he had to go to hospital non October
2015 and was unable to return to Crossways. However he spoke fondly of the staff and residents he met and was upset that he was unable to return. I would thoroughly recommend Crossways to friends and would thank the staff their for their care and compassion when looking after my father.

My mother stayed in Crossways for a week's respite care in March. It is hard for her to adapt to completely new surroundings, being blind and frail, but the staff could not have been more caring and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. As she can't see and needs a walking frame, some of the furniture
had to be rearranged so that she could move around safely and have everything she needed to hand, but this was arranged quickly and willingly.

The atmosphere in the home is warm and happy: everyone I met there, without exception, was friendly and welcoming. The only slight criticism is that the room was a bit small, but that didn't really matter for just a week's stay. In fact a better room was offered, but didn't have en suite facilities which my mother needed.

I would happily recommend Crossways, and in fact my mother already has recommended it to several people!

My parents have been residents in Crossways for ten years and the care has been excellent. My mother recently passed away and her end of life care was superb (as it was for my father). The staff were compassionate, gentle and understanding. They were patient and kind with my father as they still are,
which is helping him and the family enormously in their grief. The management and therefore the staff understand the residents needs and moods on a daily basis. It is a safe and loving environment where family and friends are always welcome. We are indebted to them for their care.

My sister and I visited Crossways while Mum was in hospital. We were looking for a respite placement while Mum adjusted after her stay in hospital. We were immediately impressed by the helpfulness, hospitality and courtesy of staff, the comfortable homeliness of Crossways, the cleanliness and sweet
smell of a beautiful flower display that greets visitors as they enter. In the dining room we were greeted by the appetising aroma of food cooking and felt as if we were entering a small residential hotel. The menu was written on a board for residents to see. The kitchen looked immaculate. the bathroom clearly designed to support people with mobility problems. Mum quickly took ownership of her room: organising her possession so she knew exactly where she wanted things to go. She responded very positively when we suggested she should stay and live there. She enjoyed the view on to the garden from her room and never took up the option of en suite: a bathroom was readily accessible. The care and food Mum received rapidly built up her strength and mobility using her Zimmer frame. Mum had ill-fitting dentures which made chewing difficult and the range of foods she would eat was limited. The staff always tried hard to provide her with a meal she could manage and enjoy. She always valued opportunities for as much independence as she could possibly manage and the dignity with which she was treated. She enjoyed the range of entertainment provide,d particularly quizzes, music, bingo, parties, visits from the dog and owns and Sunday services. Our family appreciated the 'open door' policy of Crossways for us to visit at any time and the hospitality of a cup of tea of coffee offered on every occasion. Mum usually preferred to entertain in her own room but we were always welcome in either of the two well-furnished lounges.

Mum appreciated the services of hairdresser, chiropodist, audiologist and optometrist visiting her at Crossways. The staff were always friendly, respectful and courteous and Mum regarded them with great affection and appreciated their sense of humour. With the alarm button system help was always to hand. However, Mum's determination to remain independent meant that she preferred to do things for herself. This need for independence eventually led to her having a fall from which she never fully recovered. Crossways respected her determination and end of life wish not to go into hospital but to stay in the place she had come to recognise as home with the staff as her extended family. The palliative care provided and shown to Mum during the end weeks of her life was wonderful. The cooperation with the GP practice and district nurses meant that Mum's end days were comfortable and pain free. It meant much to us, her daughters, to be able to sit with Mum and know that she knew we had acknowledged her wish that we should be by her side. Thank you to all the staff at Crossways for the care received.

Current Review Score: 8.8 (8.794)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.8 (8.794) out of 10 for Crossways Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.9 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.944 for Crossways Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (34 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 36 Ratings = 4.944

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.85 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Crossways Residential Care Home is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 25 registered maximum number of service users is 5. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 5 = 0.6

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
