My experience with Ferndale has been very supportive and reassuring during some very worrying times. The staff initially came to see my wife in our home to assess her. My wife went there Saturday's and Sunday's initially to accustom herself to the staff, so that when she finally went permanent, she
had no worries at all and settled in very well. Ferndale has a warm comfortable and loving atmosphere and most importantly, has no bad smells. I would willingly recommend them.

We were very fortunate to find this care home for my wife who was in the later stages of Alzheimer's. All the staff were very caring, friendly and professional. They went out of their way to provide extra activities to keep the residents entertained including trips out and birthday parties. When an
emergency arose with my wife they rapidly responded, recognised the problem and called the emergency services. They continued to visit her in hospital. Extremely well managed and high staff morale.

It's not just the level of practical care that is provided, which is consistently first rate, but the level of caring which is shown.
The staff really take a lot of trouble to look after the individual with respect and genuine affection.
In particular, the catering for a coeliac diet was outstanding.
We
are so grateful for all the care and love shown and the fact that they laughed at his jokes.

My dad, who passed away in November 2016 aged 94, suffered with dementia and last June it became necessary to move him into a care home. My husband and I visited Ferndale weeks earlier and were very impressed. We have viewed other home but with just 18 rooms, Ferndale was perfect. The owner, manager
and staff gave dad the best quality of life possible for his last months. Sadly he wasn't able to be there longer. The atmosphere is warm, friendly, loving, caring, informal and efficient. Nothing is too much trouble for the team of carers who are more like a family than staff. The food is appetising, meals cooked on the premises, plenty of variety and snacks always available. There's a programme of activities, some at outside venues which dad enjoyed too, especially on overnight stays at a local caravan park. Every effort is made to mentally stimulate the residents and help them enjoy life. My husband and I were and still are always made to feel welcome. We cannot fault the exceptionally high standard of care that dad received and would thoroughly recommend Ferndale without hesitation.

My husband was cared for at Ferndale for nearly 3 years, sadly he died in October 2016. From the start, he was treated with love and dignity.
It was "his home" in the true sense and also very much mine as well. The care was the best as was that given to me as his wife.
It has a real family atmosphere
and I am so pleased that my husband was cared for there in his last years. I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone who has to consider a loved one being cared for.

Ferndale is a home with a small 'h' so not at all like an institution. It is a loving and friendly and the care is superb - as is, also, the understanding of dementia.
My husband became a permanent resident in January 2015 and had always been very happy there. He had always been a very sociable chap
and so really enjoyed the attention, interaction with the other residents the music. I visit regularly (and still do) and am made most welcome.

I consider that Ferndale Residential Care Home provides exceptional high quality care. It was recommended to me by essentially everyone I talked to (e.g social workers, doctors) when I was seeking care for my mother, who has Alzheimer's Dementia. My mother was phased in slowly over a year, which worked
very well. She is very happy here.

The key to high quality care is the staff, and the staff at Ferndale are wonderful. I have met many of them, and have always been impressed by them. The manager was particularly kind and helpful to me. I have also met the new owner a few times, and was equally impressed with him.
I consider that Ferndale is extremely well managed in all respects.

The manager of Ferndale and her team were fantastic. Mum lived at Ferndale for nearly four years and she died in her bed, with one of the carers holding her hand. I cannot thank the team enough for the way they cared for Mum, they cared about her too. The preceding years had been challenging for all
of us and from the moment Mum went to Ferndale she felt safe, and so did my Dad and the rest of the family. Ferndale has a very stable team without many changes and this provides a settled environment for the residents.
Thank you

Ferndale has been extremely welcoming to my mother. We have been very impressed by the care, love and consideration given to her and the other residents, by all the staff. My mother has become established and happy at Ferndale in the short time she has been there, we cannot speak too highly about the
staff.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.640)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.640) out of 10 for Ferndale Residential Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.840 for Ferndale Residential Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (81 Excellents x 5) + (11 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 94 Ratings = 4.84

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ferndale Residential Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 17 registered maximum number of service users is 3.4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
