I was shown around this care home and asked my opinion, I said I liked room 10 and within an hour I was moved in. I have no regrets about being here, it's like a 4-star hotel!

My Mother has been at Highgrove care home for around 15 months. On the whole, she has been happy there. The staff, in particular, do a wonderful job in looking after the residents. Some of the staff have been working there for many years. Nothing is too much trouble, though I do feel they are overstretched
sometimes and expected to do things that are perhaps outside their remit. Eg cooking meals, shopping for food. Visitors are always made very welcome and there are activities and events for the residents to join in. The new owners seem to be doing some refurbishment which is welcome as some of the home had started to look a little shabby in places. My Mother has some issues with the food particularly at the weekends when there doesn't seem to be a designated cook. There also seems to be a few issues with the cleaning lately. However, I feel happy that Mum is well cared for and above all safe. There is always a nice homely atmosphere when I visit.

We moved mum to Highgrove in May 2017 as her previous home closed with little warning. From our first viewing on a Saturday, all the staff could not have been more helpful, reassuring, attentive and polite. On the day of mum's arrival, her room had been completely redecorated and felt like home from
home. The staff went out of their way to make mum feel "at home" as they still do now.

We as a family are very thankful to all the staff involved in her care.

My mother has been a resident for some years now and the staff have always been caring - I did my research on this site. The home has been well maintained and indeed improved during her time there. Variety of activities and the food is cooked on site - the comment was made that good food was one of
the few blessings that could still be enjoyed as much by residents as outsiders. When visiting I am always warmly greeted and offered tea or coffee.

Highgrove House is a truly 5 star nursing home. The building is beautiful, the rooms are lovely, the staff are amazing and the food is delicious. I have attended many friends and family functions and am always impressed at the lovely family feel of the place too. Every time I have visited during the
day there has been some sort of activity going on and residents can also visit Highgrove's beach hut on Goring seafront which is just lovely for families to take their loved one out to. I know people who have used both the day care and residential services and both are excellent.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.705)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.705) out of 10 for Highgrove House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.905 for Highgrove House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (86 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.905

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Highgrove House Care Home is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 registered maximum number of service users is 4, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
