Situated in a quiet conservation area of Southwick, Romans Care Home is very close to local shops, library, community centre and GP Practice.

Romans has been operating as a care home since 1957 and has 26 single bedrooms, including 6 that are en suite, there is a large garden to the side of the property with a patio area for residents to enjoy.

Care is delivered with a person centred approach offering kindness, care and support to all who live at the home. The highly trained, friendly and professional team welcome you with warmth and an open heart.

Alongside quality care, the team also have an exciting and varied activities programme that means there is something for everyone, including day trips, visiting entertainers and speakers, social groups both in house and with the online social community.

The team provide a high standard of meals, prepared by trained and professional chefs, and they take into consideration all dietary requirements ensuring that all meals are healthy, fulfilling and, most importantly, delicious.

Difficult to asses needs and care if not a relative, also the home has very religious leanings and some are non-believers and may not look to attend prayers etc. Otherwise pleasant staff and facilities.

The Romans is an excellent care home for residents to live in their later years. Everyone is treated so well by caring staff and management and the needs of each individual are considered well. My mother informs me that the food is excellent and there is always plenty of choice. My mother's own room,
the lounge and dining room are all kept extremely clean. There is a lovely garden where the residents are able to sit when the sun is shining. On arrival when visiting my mother, I am always greeted with a smiling face from the staff member on duty. I am very my mother is now living at Romans.

The Romans is a welcoming, friendly care home. It always smells clean, staff are kind and helpful and remember my name. My auntie is well cared for and happy. She tells me the food is delicious. They are so attentive to the residents and visitors alike. I'm also brought a chair and offered tea, coffee,
cake etc. They have BBQs, quizzes, coffee mornings and many activities for their residents and families.

I've always found the staff to be friendly and a lot of fun! They have been brilliant in helping Mum gain confidence in using the facilities and encouraged her to chat with other residents and be involved in the planned events, including the Church ones.

Mum has been at Romans nearly 3 years and is still very happy and content there. The staff are so friendly and treat her with respect and dignity and share a joke with her too. Mum enjoys the Christian association and the fact that her local Church representatives are able to visit and hold a communion
once a month for anyone who wishes to attend. She also enjoys the quizzes that are organised regularly. Mum is very happy with the food and it's great that there is a residents' meeting regularly to discuss and iron out anything. It is a huge relief to see her so settled in her 'home from home'.

I'm so impressed with Romans Care Home. My mother was taken in for respite care and she's still there three months later. The management and staff are kind, respectful and clearly happy at work. There are plenty of activities and the food is great! All needs are taken care of with the respect for each
individual. It feels like home, not just a care facility. Mum wants to live there permanently!

I came here for respite care for two weeks. I have put on weight. Doctor wanted me to come because I lost weight and I was a bit frail. I live on my own, no family, only good friends. I am going home Tuesday 30th April. Feeling much better. Also have ulcerated legs. They pushed me in a wheelchair to
surgery to have my legs dressed.

Dad has been a resident at the Romans for the past 18 months and initially found it difficult to accept help. The staff have always been kind and friendly, always a smile and a reassuring word whenever I visit him. He agrees that he is very well cared for and cannot fault the home and the people working

I think first impressions are a good gauge and I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit. Very clean, friendly and residents seem happy. Not an easy job but the staff always have a smile on their faces. Would recommend this care home.

Mum has been a resident for over 3 years and it has given her a new lease of life since going there. The staff are like an extended family always giving time to chat and showing interest in her. Their level of care is excellent and I have complete trust in them. The regular activities and events such
as quiz afternoons, baking and crafts provide both social opportunities and important mental engagement. Going to visit her feels like seeing her at her home and I feel very fortunate that she is in such a wonderful environment with Christian values at its heart.

Mum is really happy at Romans Care Home. All the staff are lovely, caring and kind, always smiling. Nothing is too much trouble. They all work hard, plus organise events BBQ's and coffee mornings. They involve Mum in the activities, which is great. We see what she gets up to via social media, which
is fantastic for the family members who live further away.

The Roman's Care Home has a lovely family atmosphere. My sister is treated as a member of the family of residents.
Many social occasions are enjoyed such as coffee mornings, seasonal occasions, and summer barbecues. Quizzes are held in the lounge.

Dad has been in the home for about a year now and in my opinion feels safe and well cared for.
All the staff go beyond what is expected of them and Dad speaks very highly of all of them.
Food is very good and he certainly doesn't go hungry.

Mum has been a resident in the Romans for six years and has been very happy during her stay. All the staff, from those providing care to the housekeepers, kitchen staff, laundry ladies and the maintenance man and management, are happy, kind and helpful. The Romans has a very homely feel and I really
feel our mum has a second family now! Also, I want to say that during the pandemic I felt they went above and beyond and stayed cheerful when n they were having such a very hard time.

Sarah

Sarah Mainwaring

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2018

I started working in care at 16 years old. I left for three years and returned as a Carer, then progressed as a Senior Carer, then a Care-Co-ordinator and then a Deputy at our sister home in Worthing. I moved to Romans in March 2018 as a Deputy and took on the role of Manager in December 2020.


I hold a Diploma in End of Life Care, and Level 5 in Management. I am most proud of the family community we have established at Romans. At the weekend I like to read, cross stitch and go for a peaceful coffee.

Marisa Heasman

Job Title: Head of Care

Joined: 2006

I've been working at Romans for over 18 years, and started here as a Carer, moving to Senior Carer, and I'm now Head of Care at our home. I have a Level 3 qualification, and I'm working towards a Level 5. My proudest achievements at work have been learning new aspects of managing a care home, and I enjoy looking after people and ensuring their needs are met. Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym, spending time with my grandchildren and watching horror films.
