Rotherlea is a superb modern care home located in the picturesque West Sussex market town of Petworth. The home is purpose designed with 7 separate self contained wings each providing residents with their own spacious single en-suite bedrooms, their own lounge and dining areas and a team of dedicated professional care staff.

Care packages are put together with you and your family so that your choices and preferences always come first. Rotherlea offers a varied and interesting social activity schedule designed around residents’ own hobbies and interests and aimed at maintaining strong community links.

Rotherlea provides long stay and respite residential care for older people with physical frailty and for older people who are suffering from dementia. A fully qualified care team provide the very highest standard of care to residents 24 hours a day.

I have found the medical care at Rotherlea very good with warm clean conditions that are excellent. The administration needs a little to be desired, but there is new management now and I am sure this will improve for the future with more contact between patients and their relations.
Items that need
washing should be more thoroughly monitored as several items of clothing have been mislaid in the period of November to end of January when my husband has been there.

The staff are always polite, helpful and welcoming. The home is modern with pleasant furnishings. It is light and airy. it is purpose built. Residents appear clean and tidily dressed. They seem to enjoy the food provided.
Alas, there appears to be little in the way of activities and nothing offering
mental stimulation. Alongside this I recognise the difficulties in obtaining suitably qualified staff and the problems of waiting for a criminal records check.

My only complaint is that I have asked repeatedly for fingernails to be cut but this is never done.
The fingernails are painted but never cut.
Other than that, I am very happy with the care given.

My mother has been a resident in Rotherlea since 2014. She has her own en-suite room which contains many of her personal items, especially her beloved books. She has been treated with kindness and we are reassured that she is in a safe, caring environment where her rights as an individual are respected.

My experience of the care establishment is that it is understaffed, poorly managed and incorrectly trained staff. Every time I visit there is never a senior member of staff to talk about my Grandmother's care needs. The majority of staff are agency and have poor English making it difficult to understand.
In all the times I've visited there has never been a home manager! Some members of staff don't have the time to assist residents to the toilet resulting in accidents. Never will I recommend this care facility to anyone.

Our family's experience of Rotherlea has been extremely positive. Mental and physical help has improved since our mother moved in twelve months ago.

My grandad stayed at Rotherlea for a respite holiday. My grandad is hard to please and our family were very surprised at how he enjoyed his stay. He said the staff were friendly and he asked if he could be taken for a pub lunch and the next day the activity coordinator took my grandad and some other
residents out for a pub lunch. Nothing was too much for them, he really enjoyed his holiday at Rotherlea.

My mum has been at Rotherlea since last May and has settled really well. I am happy to say goodbye to her after a visit knowing that she is in the best place possible. She is well looked after and has a beautiful, comfortable bedroom and bathroom which are spotless. I brought her 2 grandsons over to
visit, they had not experienced visiting someone in a care home and both felt a little unsure of what to expect. But after the visit they were both very pleasently surprised. They were happy to see their nan settled and happy in the surroundings that she now feels is home.
Over Christmas, it was lovely to see the entertainment staff organising activities and it was nice to join in with the Christmas carols and to experience my mum joining in which was lovely.
The staff are amazing and nothing ever seems too much and there is always someone to talk with and they have definitely supported me as much as my mum. A very big Thank you and I would not hesitate to recommend Rotherlea.

Daniel

Daniel Rees

Job Title: Manager

Joined: 2018

Daniel started at Shaw healthcare in 2018 joining us at Forest View care home in Burgess Hill as Deputy Manager.


He joined Shaw after gaining a wealth of knowledge in the sector for other providers working with older people and young children’s care providers.


Daniel joined Rotherlea as Home Manager after supporting several services in the region showing his ability to work with teams and solve problems.


He is a calm manager very assured and supportive to staff and families. Daniel always takes an avid interest in the residents in his care and is often seen out on the floors.


Daniel has some inspirational ideas to support Rotherlea in his new position including a lot of community interaction.

Joanne Holman

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Joined: 2008

Jo joined the care sector and Shaw healthcare back in June 2008.
There is not a role in a care home that Jo has not undertaken – she loves a challenge and has helped out in many Shaw homes across the West Sussex region. learning and improving along the way.
Jo is a happy member of the team at Rotherlea, professional at all times, showing kindness and empathy.
Jo enjoys the interactions she has each day with families, health professionals, and of course the lovely residents. Jo commented “Speaking to the residents and listening to their life stories, just knowing you have made a difference to someone’s day, is what makes working in care so wonderful”
The recent Pandemic has been a really scary time for everyone but, our main focus has been ensuring the residents are safe. The residents have kept in good spirits despite not seeing their loved ones all the time. However, they have enjoyed and at times been fascinated with modern technology such as Facetime, Skype, and Zoom.

I have worked at Rotherlea since January 2019. This is my first job in the care sector after working in education for 20 years.


I enjoy the variety of jobs my role entails and I love helping and supporting my colleagues.


The best memory of a working day was in my extra role as line manager for Activities organising a British Tea Party where I could interact with both residents and colleagues.


My qualifications are NVQ Level 2 in Administration, Level 1 & Level 2 in Counselling Skills.
