Ashbury Care Home is a 29 bedded care home situated in the West of Bognor Regis, a stone’s throw away from Aldwick Beach. Local amenities include shops, hairdressers and restaurants. All of which can be enjoyed by service users with or without the support of a dedicated full time activities coordinator.

All rooms include an ensuite with either a bath or shower/wet room. They are tastefully decorated and include a suite of bedroom furniture. All rooms can be personalised with any personal effects to make the atmosphere to the individuals liking.

The home has 2 lounges and a dining area that all service users can use as they wish and a front and rear outside area with seating for nice weather.

The staff team are all passionate about providing the very best care. The majority have worked in the home for five years or more and are encouraged to undertake further training to develop their skills to ensure a good continuity of care for service users.

There is a strong activities programme in place which includes twice weekly minibus outings to destinations chosen by the service users and access to the community and leisurely walks into the local town for shopping are also favourites. In-house activities include things like Bingo, quizzes, arts and crafts and baking. A high spec interactive activities table is also available and has been proven to improve cognitive function when used regularly. For more relaxing evenings the home has a pop-up home cinema accompanied by popcorn and other snacks for movie night.

A recent digital readiness assessment shows the home is able to facilitate Wi-Fi throughout the entire building and the use of technology is promoted to maintain relationships between service users and their family and friends. A Facebook portal as well as Facebook and newsletter updates keep loved ones in touch and informed.

We have always found all the staff very friendly and always able to answer any queries we have. Our only slight criticism is not always informed about appointments being made as unfortunately my dad's family do not live locally it would be appreciated a quick phone call. Dad always looks clean and also
his clothes. Room and bedding clean and tidy as Dad is bed bound this is important. Staff try very hard for Dad to join in activities and outings which unfortunately Dad does not want to do but nice to think he is included if he wanted to participate.

Any worries I have, I am able to speak to the manager and sort them out, they are always ready to listen.
There was a safeguarding problem with the hospital which the home put in a complaint and got it sorted.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.267) out of 10 for Ashbury is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.5 out of 5 from 3 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.500 for Ashbury is calculated as follows: ( (17 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 32 Ratings = 4.5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.767 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Ashbury is based on 3 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.25

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8. 3 Positive Reviews ÷ 5.8 = 0.517

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
