Vine House is a small, private, family-run residential home which has enjoyed considerable acclaim and many accolades over 35+ years. They pride themselves on their welcoming and homely atmosphere in addition to their first-rate care.

This special home is located on the outskirts of Midhurst, a small market town, in the heart of the South Downs National Park. A wide selection of shops and amenities are close-by. Their own mobility car assists with longer journeys to appointments, a trip to the beach or there’s a popular bus stop just outside.

Vine House is a traditional, large family home with 14 well-furnished bedrooms; all equipped with Nurse Call, a television, Wi Fi, an Amazon Echo and a telephone facility. Residents are encouraged to bring their own furnishings, memorabilia, pictures and knick-knacks to personalise their own bedroom. Twelve bedrooms have en-suite facilities while the remaining two bedrooms have vanity units (wash basins) and have easy access to adjacent bathrooms.

Well maintained gardens boast several separate patio areas to enjoy the summer sun, the wildlife or just watch the world go by! Many residents love to tend to their own individual raised flower beds or contributing to their fruit and vegetable gardens. A private car park can be found at the rear of the home and there is also ample off-street parking available.

The Vine House staff are noted for being compassionate and caring and pride themselves on always providing a high level of round-the-clock care and support. GPs and health practitioners visit whenever needed while a chiropodist, hairdressers and clergy visit regularly. There are a variety of daily activities, special events, local outings and of course there is always time for a cuppa and a chat!

Friends and family are welcome to visit whenever they wish. To join residents for lunch or afternoon tea or just to pop in and say hello - the doors are always open.

My mother has settled into Vine House really well, even during the challenging time of initial isolation period due to COVID, the team got to know my Mum really well. Post the isolation period, I have met most of the staff, who are all extremely caring towards my Mother at all times and my Mother is
cheerful when I go to visit her twice a week. The staff always go above and beyond and it is of great reassurance that my Mum is in excellent care. Thank you to the management and your team for welcoming my Mum and our family.

My mother has been a resident at Vine House for a couple of years now and my high opinion of Vine House hasn’t changed in all of that time. Obviously we have all been through challenging times recently, but I have to say the staff at care homes have had it tougher than most. I have huge admiration for
the staff at Vine House for delivering the high standard of care they provide in extremely challenging circumstances. As far as I’m aware, they had no cases of COVID-19 in Vine House through the whole pandemic and this speaks volumes for their commitment and diligence. Not only is my mother extremely well cared for, but the manager and the team go above and beyond to meet her needs.

My Mum has been at Vine House now for about two years. Before this, two of her sisters had also been happy residents. What you will notice about Vine House is how friendly and caring the staff are towards all of the residents. They know them all by name and get to know all the family members also. I
know my Mum enjoys the relaxed feel of Vine House and the staff keep up her spirits and make her laugh. She also tells me, on a daily basis, how nice the meals are and tells me the menu. Recently, Mum has been out in the garden a lot which is where I have my visits, if possible. The gardens are well looked after and I am always welcomed with a cup of tea and biscuits from the staff when visiting, which is always a plus from me after a long drive. I have told many people about the high level of service at Vine House but now wanted to put this in writing. The next family event is a BBQ (covid safe) planned in August.

I have lived at Vine House for five years and consider it my home. I love the garden and think it is exceptional. My room is so cosy and it's nice to have beautiful views from the windows of the horses in the fields. The staff have all become friends, as most of them have been here for my stay. My daughters
enjoy visiting me here and get on well with the staff.

Vine House Residential Care Home is an ideal residence for your elderly relative. The home is small and intimate and provides a level of care and service which is of an extremely high standard. All staff are personable and caring and because it is small everyone knows everyone else. The service levels
are kept high and all staff are professional in their approach and led by a strong team who lead by example and encourage staff to improve their skills and to relate to the residents on all levels.
The grounds are well kept and residents are encouraged to get out into the garden as much as possible. The home regularly has outside entertainment visit the home to entertain the residents as well as annual garden parties when relatives and friends encouraged to attend. Residents are encouraged to think and treat the home as they would their own home; nothing is ever too much trouble.
In Vine House you could not ask for a better facility for your loved elderly resident to stay.

Vine House is a small, intimate, friendly care home in a converted character house. It has a nice garden surrounding it, in which the residents have the freedom to explore independently in the knowledge that a carer is never far away should they need help. The carers are always happy to talk to you
if you have any questions or concerns. They are also very respectful of the elderly residents within, which is lovely to see. They seem to enjoy their work and there is a very low turnover of staff, always a good sign. This is important for my mother in law as she feels more relaxed when she knows the people looking after her and dislikes constant change.

My father has been very well looked after by the whole team at Vine House, including the cleaners and maintenance staff.
Because it is a small home, it feels more like a normal home rather than an institution.
As a family, we have trust and faith in the manager and his team to provide the care he
needs. We can see from their actions that my father is not just another old man but someone that they are fond of too which I really appreciate.

When my mother (95) couldn’t cope in her own home any longer, I looked at as many local care homes as possible. When I visited Vine House, I knew immediately that it was the right place for her. It is a small family run home with 13 residents, who are encouraged to treat it as their own home. The
caring staff are very personable and are encouraged to make time to sit with the residents and chat, not just care for their day to day needs. All the staff including management care deeply about the residents. There are no set visiting times (though it’s best to avoid meal times) and Mum’s visitors are always made to feel welcome. She has a lovely ensuite room. We had input into the layout of the room so that it would best suit mum’s needs. The communal areas allow space to watch TV and socialise, but also to have private quiet time in the “Annexe” sitting room. Mum particularly appreciates having access to the garden on her own, safe in the knowledge that if she needs help it is there.

Vine House is a small, privately run residential home that has a very homely atmosphere. The staff are always friendly and do their best to meet all the needs that arise.
It is very well run, the door is always open for my visits and my father's needs discussed.
The food is good and I've noticed all
dietary needs are met. The place is always clean and there are plenty of activities and events arranged. Lovely gardens.

Andrew has over 30 years of experience in business management and service delivery across a number of highly regulated, high expectation customer service industries.


He has worked alongside his father, Alan Hill (Founder and Provider) at various times since the Home was established 37 years ago. Andrew has led the family business since 2013. Andrew holds several management recognised qualifications and has undertaken mandatory and further social care training. He is well known and respected by other health professionals in West Sussex and further afield.

Christine’s appointment as Manager has been very warmly received by all at Vine House.


Chris has a substantial amount of experience of health care settings spanning over 25 years, the past six years of which as a Registered Manager. She prides herself on her hands-on approach, her organisational skills and ability to nurture a good team. Chris’s caring, personable nature and strong care ethos fits Vine House perfectly in ensuring the residents’ come first in everything we do.


Chris relished the opportunity of joining the Vine House team and in doing so, fought of strong competition to make her goal a reality.
