Walstead Place Care Home in Haywards Heath is a magnificent 19th-century country squire’s residence, sensitively converted to provide the highest standard of residential care for up to 43 elderly residents, including trial stays, short stays, convalescent care, and permanent care. for individuals or couples.

The care home is set in its own beautiful gardens of some 2½ acres. Walstead Place dates back to 1852, in the small hamlet of Walstead, within a mile of the picturesque village of Lindfield where there is a post office, bank and many local shops and pubs. The home is conveniently placed in relation to the main line commuter station to London and the main motorway network and with Brighton and the South Coast only 12 miles away.

Walstead Place benefits from a dedicated health and wellbeing co-ordinator who plans a wide range of hobbies, events and activities that can be enjoyed by everyone. Events and activities are based on residents' likes, dislikes and feedback to ensure they are inclusive and remain varied. Dining is an important part of the day to day life at Walstead Place. A qualified chef and their team take great pride in producing varied and appetising menus, providing a nutritious and balanced diet. The cuisine is carefully chosen to meet each resident's nutritional needs.

My mum went into Walstead Place for respite care following an illness. She was very weak when she arrived and after just the first week the difference was very evident. She has told me she loves the food, it is amazing and the staff are wonderful. She has been there over Christmas which has been very
reassuring for the family as everyone has been very kind, caring and supportive to her. I would highly recommend Walstead Place whether that's for respite or long term care.

My mother was a resident for only three weeks but received the kindest, most compassionate care from the staff at Walstead Place. She could not have had more attentive staff from the management team, carers, cleaners and housekeeping staff. As a family, we felt so beautifully cared for ourselves during
every visit, telephone call and enquiry about Mum. It was truly a home from home during the last few weeks of her life's long journey. Thank you to all who knew her.

I cannot thank the staff at Walstead Place enough. Mum was in the home for 3 weeks, she received very good care all done with love during those weeks. She was clean, comfortable and kept safe. She sadly died there and this was handled with love, care and support to her children and grandchildren. This
has continued after her death.

My mum stayed for a week in Walstead Place after a spell in hospital to recover and gain confidence to return home. She and I found the care that she received exemplary. All the staff, without exception, were so very kind to her and they were all so friendly. I noticed, when visiting, that the residents
were treated with respect and kindness. The home was very cosy and welcoming.

My 92-year-old aunt became a resident at Walstead Place Care Home after a short period of respite there. At home she was isolated and becoming more withdrawn, she had carers but her care needs had become greater than what they could provide. Since being at Walstead she has once again become the aunt
I knew and has flourished with the stimulation, on hand care and good food provided. Last Sunday she became acutely unwell and it was through the prompt action of the staff managing the situation very well that the outcome was a positive one. My aunt was taken to hospital for treatment, but all the way through this episode Walstead have kept me informed as to what news they had. Thankfully, my aunt is now back 'home' at Walstead and many of the guilt feelings I might have had about her not ending her days in her own home have been assuaged by the fact she is so well cared for and happy at Walstead.

My father was very poorly when he came to the home from the hospital after a fall at home. He has various health problems and had lost a lot of weight and become very fragile. He received a huge welcome when he arrived at Walstead Place, and the staff couldn't have been more caring and showed more empathy.
He has come on leaps and bounds since being here, has gained back his appetite and started walking again.

in these difficult times, I cannot think how Walstead Place management and staff could have done any better caring for my mother. Both the physical care (food/medicine etc) and mental care (staff chats and activities) are as good as we dare to hope for. And, importantly, I know my mother would say exactly
the same. Just look forward to being able to take her out from Tuesday.

Coming here for respite has exceeded all my expectations! I have a lovely en-suite room downstairs, with views of the garden. The staff are so kind and caring. Meals are first-class - delicious! Every need I may have is catered for, I am so pleased that I am here for 3 weeks.

Whilst there are some lovely staff at Walstead Place - this was marred by the attitude of the manager, so I moved Mum out. I was also disappointed that Mum was placed in a room not suitable for her needs. Having to go down in a stairlift to shower meant she had two showers in three months. The day she
moved in (at 11 am) - I called three times for her to be updated. This didn't happen until 20.30 - the manager thought this was acceptable!

My uncle was at Walstead Place for a short time last year. The staff could not have done more for him and were brilliant from cleaners to kitchen assistants and carers. The food was first class and all made fresh on a daily basis and he could request food or drink at any time of the day or night. The
home is very clean and does not smell at all like some care homes do. My uncle was very happy there. The staff have kept the home very safe during the covid pandemic.

Jaquie

Jaquie Ferguson

Job Title: Home Manager

Joined: 2001

Jacquie’s primary responsibilities are to provide quality care to all clients, oversee and maintain the smooth running of the business on a day to day basis, maintain standards in accordance with the regulations, and also ensure that the home is optimally marketed.


She enjoys the daily contact with the residents, their families and all the staff. She also enjoys ensuring that the home is able to provide the appropriate care to all clients while maintaining their independence, privacy and the right to choose.


Jacquie has vast experience in the care of the elderly. She is a registered nurse with over 25 years experience, mainly in elderly care, having worked in nursing homes as an RN and eventually a Home Manager, and further went on to work as operations/area manager for a large healthcare company. She came back to the role of Home Manager as she missed the role and working in a care home.


She achieved her Registered Managers Award in 2001. Jacquie is passionate about person centred care and believes in using an individual’s life history when planning their care. As a manager she is passionate about dementia care and has completed a leadership course on this subject.
She has achieved many things in her life but her greatest achievement, and what she is most proud of, is having three great children and seeing them through school and into good careers.
