White Lodge Residential home was originally a unique single-storey building of character built in the late 1920’s. The property stands in its own landscaped garden and is approximately 200 yards from the sea and the same distance from the local village shopping centre with Post Office and General Store.

It has been modernised and extended and now provides superb facilities and a very happy restful home for people requiring 24 hourly supportive care.

Accommodation is provided in thirty large, self-contained single rooms. All rooms are light, airy and very tastefully and comfortably furnished. All have modern double-glazing, LED TV's and free private direct line telephones, as well as a two way speaking call bell. All bedrooms have their own private en-suite facilities. Some rooms lead directly onto the garden patio while others may have views of the sea.

Communal areas include separate lounges, separate dining rooms and a delightful sun lounge thus enabling residents to meet and socialise. Residents are also encouraged to bring personal possessions, which may help them to feel at home. White Lodge has beautiful south facing sheltered lawned gardens and there is ample car parking.

My mother was a resident at White Lodge for over 6 years until December 2024 when her care needs increased. She has therefore now moved to a nursing home run by the same company. She settled very well at White Lodge. She knew all the staff and they knew her and she had a good bond with them all. All
the staff are friendly and respectful and go above and beyond to look after the residents. My mother much enjoyed the food and was able to have her favourite dishes. White Lodge have a very good range of activities. The manager and head of care are both very approachable and caring and do their best to make White Lodge a welcoming environment. I would recommend White Lodge.

I moved into White Lodge 18 months ago for a planned 6 week respite following a hospital stay. I opted to stay on a permanent basis having realised I was becoming incapable of living independently in my own home, a big step. White Lodge meet my needs for a smaller space property which made it made it
feel more of a family home. Recognising my transition from living at home, I felt the whole team provided all of the necessary support and care to help me adjust. The food provided was far nicer to what I had been having. I would certainly recommend White Lodge to anybody looking for a new home.

My mother had been in White Lodge and I had witnessed the exceptional care that she received, so I had no hesitation in recommending it for my mother-in-law when she needed care. I visit my mother-in-law nearly every day and I only ever see kindness and gentle care from the staff. The staff really get
to know the residents and they know what each resident likes and dislikes.

My father-in-law has resided at White Lodge since June 2023 and has settled in very nicely and seems happy. My husband and I were recommended White Lodge and we haven't been disappointed in our choice.
We have found White Lodge welcoming, homely and very clean. The staff are always pleasant, helpful
and nothing seems too much. The food is excellent and always looks appetising. There are plenty of activities for him to join in with, but no pressure if you don't want to.
We feel more than happy that he is living in a safe happy environment.

My mother went into the care home in May 2022. Since that time she has been extremely content there. She loves the stuff you have made her feel welcome and very much part of the family. Everyone we deal with puts Mum's wishes first and she is never compelled to do anything. Communication is to a very
high standard and myself and my brother are kept fully informed of any issues. The food is wonderful and the home is always clean. The entertainment is amazing the two staff members in particular who do this are excellent.

Our mum has been at White Lodge for just over a year. It's in a lovely, quiet location with a pretty garden to sit in or take part in fair-weather activities. The home is not too big, therefore has a very homely feel. We always receive a warm, friendly welcome from all the staff, who are always approachable
and helpful, no matter how busy they are. Mum really enjoys the activities and her meal times. It's such a comfort knowing that she is safe, happy and well looked after. Thank you White Lodge.

My mother was a resident at White Lodge for 18 months. She was very happy with the care and attention she was given over that time. Mum felt very lucky to have been there. She was always treated with respect as well as an individual. The garden as well as the location suited Mum very well. The staff
were always kind and attentive to her needs, they liaised with the doctor or medical people when needed. The staff worked well together and supported each other with their workloads. I could not have managed Mum on my own and have been very grateful for all the care she received over the time she was at White Lodge. Well done to all for a well-run, clean, and homely residential home. Thank you.

My mother arrived in White Lodge in January 2022. Management and all staff have been caring, lovely, thoughtful and supportive from day one. It really is home! My mother was never alone, many staff stopped and talk to her (like helpful friends). Extremely kind, caring and a very lovely place to be,
so supportive. Many thanks to all the team.

Our brother had incurable cancer and moved to White Lodge when he could no longer care for himself. In White Lodge he was very comfortable, he enjoyed the large garden especially and he liked all the staff. He was treated with great kindness, wonderful care, patience and good humour. Even though very
busy, the staff were always available, never rushed the care they gave and often did something extra, for example, they sat with him through the night just before he died so he wouldn't be alone. We are very grateful to them all.

My wife stayed at White Lodge for four weeks in May and June 2022. This was her second stay at White Lodge and she was very happy here. Cleanliness is excellent, facilities excellent, her personal care and safety were well managed, staff welcoming and friendly. My wife says the meals were great... which
possibly reflects the standard of my home cooking! The whole place has a warm and welcoming vibe and we will certainly have no hesitation in using White Lodge again for respite care. Thank you to the whole team.

Our aunt has been a resident at White Lodge for a number of years and, at 95 years old, we are convinced that she could not be happier or more comfortable. As visiting has been difficult lately for obvious reasons when we call we always speak with staff members who are caring, fully informed and who
seem emotionally engaged; this is very touching, and it's comforting to know that our aunt is surrounded by a well trained, close-knit, and wholly engaged team.
The location and environment of White Lodge is delightful and the home itself is big enough to have built a sense of community but is small enough to feel intimate and family-focused.
There are few institutions left where so many humane values are as well preserved.

White Lodge has a very caring environment reflecting safety, friendliness and respecting dignity and privacy. Dad has been very well looked after and kept safe during these difficult times. Staff are approachable and help him with any concerns raised. The manager and staff build good relationships with
the residents and have got to know Dad really well- going the extra mile recently to support a very special visit. Big thank you to all at White Lodge and their senior management team.

I cannot recommend White Lodge care home enough. At the heart of any healthcare service should be the patient and this is absolutely true at White Lodge. The staff all genuinely care about the patients' wellbeing, both physical and mental. They work with a great sense of humour and camaraderie - they
take time to build relationships and interact with my grandad, which is very important as despite his advanced years he is still very with it mentally. The staff have worked tirelessly to ensure that throughout the pandemic he has been able to communicate with his family, including resetting passwords on devices so we can talk over video-call and ensuring he is near his phone. The maintenance team have ensured his room feels like his own. Staff recently worked with us to safely and securely ensure my grandad, a military veteran, could take part in some filming. Not only did this help preserve an important part of the UK's history, but also provide him with a very special day.

My mother has been living at White Lodge for just over a year. During that time, she has gone from a frail old lady with little to look forward to, to a confident woman enjoying life again. This is due, in no small measure, to the kindness, lively interest and company of the staff and the activities
provided. Also the interaction with the other residents, now friends, has enriched her life enormously. I too, have got to know the staff over the months and have also been treated with unfailing kindness and consideration. White Lodge rest home is truly a home and the staff and residents, a family.

My mum has now been in White Lodge for 16 months and loves it. We visited several care homes and knew straight away that she would love it. The manager and staff are really lovely and caring and she is really happy here.
This year 2020 has been really hard for everyone, not least care home residents
and staff and they have done an excellent job of keeping everyone safe and happy. I can highly recommend this home.

After visiting one or two Care Homes having made the extremely difficult decision to find a suitable place for our Mum, we were so pleased to have found White Lodge. On my first visit to the home, I knew that it would be the place where Mum would be well cared for and happy. Mum was a resident at White
Lodge for nearly a year and my sisters and I visited her several times a week (until lockdown, that is!). On all of our visits, we were welcomed and treated as family and we soon realised that, not only was Mum treated with the utmost care and attention from all the staff, but that she was loved as well, which meant so much to us all. White Lodge is well managed, extremely clean and comfortable, and the food is also very good. We certainly did not regret our decision to place Mum in the care of White Lodge.

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.826)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.826) out of 10 for White Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.926 for White Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.926

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Lodge is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
