White Lodge Residential home was originally a unique single-storey building of character built in the late 1920’s. The property stands in its own landscaped garden and is approximately 200 yards from the sea and the same distance from the local village shopping centre with Post Office and General Store.

It has been modernised and extended and now provides superb facilities and a very happy restful home for people requiring 24 hourly supportive care.

Accommodation is provided in thirty large, self-contained single rooms. All rooms are light, airy and very tastefully and comfortably furnished. All have modern double-glazing, LED TV's and free private direct line telephones, as well as a two way speaking call bell. All bedrooms have their own private en-suite facilities. Some rooms lead directly onto the garden patio while others may have views of the sea.

Communal areas include separate lounges, separate dining rooms and a delightful sun lounge thus enabling residents to meet and socialise. Residents are also encouraged to bring personal possessions, which may help them to feel at home. White Lodge has beautiful south facing sheltered lawned gardens and there is ample car parking.

I have been a regular visitors for a few years and White Lodge is warm, friendly and homely. The dedicated team of carers is very well lead by the managers and they have created a happy, safe and secure environment. Great efforts are made for the varied daily activities to join in, though a person's
independence is always respected.

Following my search before Christmas 2018, I knew of this home from many years ago when a neighbour was a resident and I left it to be examined until later in my search. On entering there was no smell just a homely atmosphere to be welcomed by smiling staff. The manager was open and above board with
all my list of questions, took me on a thorough guided tour and she also asked questions of me and my role as a carer. We agreed on 2 weeks respite care initially but within a week the decision was made to entrust my friend aged 92 into her care. Extremely impressed so far.

This care home is small, personal and cosy like a big family. Staff and residents all know each other. My mother has settled in quite happily although I thought she’d be far more resistant to leaving her own home. I’ve found it very clean on all my visits, the residents seem to like the food and the
staff are very approachable. The activities leader is awesome and extremely patient! The only difficulty I’ve experienced is getting mum’s hair done by the hairdresser every week - not drastic in the great scheme of things, but she does look a bit unkempt without it and I know it does wonders to keep up her morale.

My mother has been a resident at White Lodge for almost a year. She immediately settled, made friends quite quickly, and has become very content. We feel blessed that mum is so happy and we can relax knowing that she is so well cared for.

My father has lived in comfort at White Lodge for over three years and both he and I cannot speak highly enough of the care he receives.
The staff know my father and he feels comfortable talking to them and sharing both his laughter and his worries.
All the staff work together to provide a warm, professional
"home" environment and my father considers White Lodge as an extended family.
The food is fresh and varied with homemade cake every day which I can recommend!
Thank you, White Lodge, for all that you do, not only for my father but also for me.

White Lodge has provided my grandparents with amazing care. They care for every resident and treat them with great respect. White Lodge does not feel like your average residential home, there are a huge variety of activities for the residents to do and my grandfather has become a keen quiz taker! Whenever
I have gone to visit my grandparents the staff are so welcoming and always offer you tea/coffee and cake.

White Lodge is an excellent facility for the caring of the elderly. Our Mother was there for five and half years and the care overall was excellent.
The facilities and rooms were all kept in marvellous condition, and the building had no traces of the usual "Old Peoples" urine type smell. The staff
were lovely and very caring. My mother was treated with the utmost respect at all times and staff went out of their way to make life as comfortable as possible for mother (period 95 -101 years old) Catering was extremely good again with all personal requirements taken care of. Mothers room was bright, airy, and kept nice and clean.
We were aware of some managerial matters which we found frustrating, but that was resolved just as our Mother departed this world, and we were extremely impressed with the new incoming Manager.
It is very easy to criticise such establishments dealing with old folks but must be extremely difficult, and in our view, overall White Lodge did a superb job.

The senior staff are poorly trained and managed and have very bad attitudes and lack of understanding towards family members. Communication skills are very poor and undignified. The home does not understand how to deliver person-centred care and I have seen staff speak to my grandmother in condescending
tones.
Coffee and food are left to go cold with basic encouragement to eat and drink lacking. The staff have made the last few years of my relationship with my grandmother a very upsetting and stressful experience. I would not wish anyone else to experience what I have had to experience. The management should hang their heads in shame.

The care my in law receives at White Lodge is excellent. The staff are cheery, approachable and friendly with a professional approach.
Nothing is too much trouble. The food is very good and my Mother in law particularly likes the fresh cake everyday!
The staff make every effort to ensure other members
of the family are made to feel welcome and special attention is paid at birthdays, Christmas etc. by all the staff.

Excellent in all ways. Staff are caring, kind and make White lodge a lovely place to visit. They are always accommodating; offering us when we visit a cup of tea/cake. The home is kept clean and is a real 'home.' The gardens at White lodge are wonderful and beautifully maintained - and some of the
rooms look out onto it. There is always activities happening at White Lodge making it a lively place yet because there are not lots and lots of residents it still feels small and cosy. Would recommend!

Current Review Score: 9.8 (9.826)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.8 (9.826) out of 10 for White Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.926 for White Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (100 Excellents x 5) + (8 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.926

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for White Lodge is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 29 registered maximum number of service users is 5.8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
