The staff at Woodlands House Care Home are exceptional. The care given to my sister over a period of nearly ten years was first-class. She was treated with respect, dignity and kindness throughout the time she was a resident there. Sadly my Sister passed away recently and the end-of-life care was everything
you could wish for. Not only did they care for my Sister but the kindness shown to me at such a difficult time was very special. I would highly recommend this care home as the manager and staff go the extra mile every time.

Due to dementia, my mother has been in the care home since 2018. Throughout this time, she has received exemplary care.
Even now, as her condition is becoming more challenging, the staff are looking after all her needs and ensuring she is kept safe and well.

Mum has been at Woodlands for the past 16 weeks. She is fiercely independent and was not happy to go into residential care. She now adores the manager and the team who care for her and is very settled. Before going into Woodlands, Mum had started to forget to eat and was getting more confused. I visited
her two days ago and she looked better than she had done in a few years and was alert and happy, all due to the staff at Woodlands.
Communication between ourselves and Woodlands is excellent, they inform us of any incident, however small, and I have confidence in their ability to care for Mum in respect of her physical and pastoral needs.

My mother suffered from Alzheimer’s dementia and eventually, it became difficult for the family to care for her.
The staff at Woodlands House were very caring and knew how best to help my mother settle in by developing a care plan that met her individual needs.
The staff were very experienced and
nothing was too much trouble, they knew how to cajole and play along with my mother.
We as a family were confident and happy with the care received.

Our mum moved to Woodlands mid-pandemic, so it was not easy at first to gauge any aspects of her care due to the lockdowns. We had to put our faith in recommendations and reviews. The manager has been exceptional in forming relationships with our family, updating us on all aspects of our mum's care
and answering any questions or concerns. We are notified immediately about changes to my mum's condition and full explanations are provided for changes in practice (e.g. use of a wheelchair, GP/medication request). When we have had the opportunity to see our mum she always looks very well looked after and staff have gone the extra mile in preparing her for our visits. Staff have also been extremely kind to our father, 89 years, when he visits our mum, and are very mindful of how difficult this separation has been for them after 63 years of marriage. We really like the fact that this is run as a caring 'home from home' not an institution. I would highly recommend this to others.

My Mother lived in A Woodlands House for nearly eleven years, we chose it because it was small, with a homely feel and friendly staff. It is well run, very clean, with excellent home-cooked meals, that mum loved and a pretty garden but what makes it special is the staff.
They are kind, caring and gentle
and they treat all their residents with respect and dignity. Mum was loved by the staff and was treated like part of their family and she always smiled when they entered the room. They have also supported us on many occasions over the years. Communication between the home and the family was very good we were involved in all decision making and kept informed of any changes or concerns about mum's health or well being. During the last year when visiting has been so restricted, we were confident that mum was being well looked after and that meant we did not have to worry about her, even though we missed her. I highly recommend A Woodlands House, my mum was safe and happy there.

I would highly recommend Woodlands House to anyone who has a relative who needs care and has dementia.
My uncle was in Woodlands House for the final months of his life and was extremely well cared for - good food, personal presentation was superb and fantastically kind, patient, caring staff.
A small
home that treats their residents with dignity and respect. Their ethos for dealing with dementia residents is brilliant and my uncle was safe and comfortable.
I can’t praise them or thank them enough.

Woodlands House took care of my Aunt for the last two and a half years of her life until she passed away. She was very well cared for and always relaxed and happy. I could call on her anytime without notice. She always looked very well cared for. The manager and her team do a fantastic job.

I unfortunately had to start looking for a dementia home for my husband. An awful decision to have to make. I went to have a meeting with the care manageress at Woodlands House. I was quickly put at ease. We had a long talk and she took me around the home. Woodlands House is a small home, with 14 patients,
all with dementia. It is warm and homely. The staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble.
I was very happy to leave my husband in their care, knowing that they really understand this terrible disease, dementia.

My father spent two and a half years here until he passed away peacefully. He was always treated with the utmost respect and dignity and seemed to feel at home on the very first day he arrived. The home was not super modern and clinical, but a little old fashioned and very homely, we were so happy with
our choice because it was exactly the sort of place he was comfortable in. All the staff were very friendly and helpful, never a raised voice and endless patience with those who weren't easy to deal with because of their Dementia. Whenever I visited, Dad was happy and smiling (if not asleep!) and we were always offered a drink and biscuits - very hospitable.
Dad was very well cared for at all times and it showed. In his last days he received priority care and was kept company by the staff until he slipped away to a better place. In hindsight, the family realised this was a special home and we are so grateful for all the care, attention and love that he received. Thanks to all.

This is a follow up to the review I submitted last year, shortly after my mother had gone to live at Woodlands. For several years before that, her repeated hospitalisations and self-neglect had left her with delirium, unable to make her own decisions or even write her own name. Due to the care given
to her by all at Woodlands, her recovery has far exceeded my expectations. She is reading, knitting, writing letters to family and has decided to move to a care home near her son - where this week, she read, understood and signed her contract with them. Many thanks to everyone.

I visit A Woodlands House whenever I want to and with no warning. I am always greeted very warmly and I come away completely happy with how my mother is.
She smiles readily at the staff, proof enough to know that she is treated kindly. She is always relaxed, well fed, clean and happy. They know that
she likes to sleep in so she is never hurried to get up. She is encouraged to join in with activities and given the help she needs. They laugh and joke with her and get as much interaction as they can from someone with late stage Alzheimer's. I am always informed immediately of any changes in her health and that they have called a doctor if necessary. I am given the opportunity to be there if I want and always given an immediate update.
I cannot recommend enough to others who are in the situation I was in a year ago of reluctantly having to find a home for a loved parent with dementia, not knowing how to begin, A Woodlands House is your answer. I know that she is safe and happy. I do not worry about her at all.

My aunt was resident for two years and throughout that time, she was treated with the utmost dignity and respect. Nothing was too much trouble for the polite staff, cheerful and attentive to her needs. Various activities served to occupy each day with purpose. I visited weekly and was always made welcome,
offered drink and homemade cakes and given the opportunity to have a private conversation with my aunt. The staff always answered any of my questions and kept me informed of her personal needs.
The house was clean, comfortable and well equipped and the garden was easily accessible and the residents used it. My aunt broke her hip but the staff were most insistent that she return to the home, a tremendous effort was made to ensure her comfort. Towards the end of her life, my aunt needed encouragement to eat and the staff were totally understanding. I was kept well informed of her decline in health and at her death, both my aunt and I were treated with the utmost dignity.

We were faced with the very difficult situation of needing to move our elderly aunt from her care home which could no longer meet her needs. We were extremely worried about how we would find somewhere that could cope with a lady suffering with anxiety and vascular dementia. When we visited A Woodlands
House, our worries disappeared.
From the initial visit to our aunt settling into the community, we could not have asked for more. All the members of staff have gone out of their way to support both our aunt and the family. We are regularly updated by phone and feel confident that A Woodlands House offers the best possible dignified environment for people living with dementia.
The standard of care is exemplary and the depth of understanding of how to meet the needs of people living with dementia is impressive. The house is run as a home in the best sense of the world, providing care, stimulation and security. We thoroughly recommend A Woodlands House.

After visiting a number of possible homes for my father, we settled on this one. Why? From the first visit, this was a friendly and caring place where the staff appeared to be more like friends with the residents. The atmosphere is homely and unlike many others, it is calm, peaceful and relaxing to
be in. When visiting I am always greeted with a smile and offered tea/coffee and cake as part of the visit. Without exception, my father has appeared clean and tidy, and I generally visit at short notice without informing the home I am coming. Small details like hair and nails are always satisfactory, and considering his condition, my father is remarkably content with the world and says that the 'people who look after him' are very kind.
The home is kept very clean and tidy, doesn't smell of 'old people', and is decorated and furnished in a way that makes someone of my father's generation quite comfortable. I am very pleased that he will spend his last days being well cared for and content.

I am extremely happy with the care my dad receives at Woodlands House. It is a small very homely care home. My dad has been in the home coming up for a year now. The doctor is called if he has been unwell and I am always kept well informed of his well being. Food is beautiful. The home is kept spotless
and my dad is always well groomed. I feel they are excellent and am so happy I found them.

Mum was admitted to this specialist dementia care home one year ago following ill health at home and a hospital stay. She has improved incredibly since being at Woodlands House, they have gone to the trouble of getting liquid meds and ensuring that mum takes them. She can wander into the garden when
the weather is good. Following a fall and hip operation recently Woodlands took mum back and she is quite content and doing as well as can be expected with progressing dementia. The carers and staff are brilliant and most have been there for some years.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.357)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.357) out of 10 for Woodlands House Care Home is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 1 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

The Average Rating of 5.000 for Woodlands House Care Home is calculated as follows: ( (12 Excellents x 5) ) ÷ 12 Ratings = 5

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 3.357 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Woodlands House Care Home is based on 1 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 = 3

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 14 registered maximum number of service users is 2.8. 1 Positive Reviews ÷ 2.8 = 0.357

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
