My mother's partner of whom I am Power of Attorney to has been a resident at Alex Wood House for the last couple of years. My mother's partner has Dementia and secondary Parkinson’s. The staff at Alex Wood House have always provided excellent care, treating all the residents with kindness and respect.
The staff work tirelessly and I have always felt welcome in the home. Communication has been excellent and any queries have been swiftly dealt with. My mother's partner has been well cared for in every way. I have been particularly impressed with the creative activities put on for the residents and my mother's partner has always been encouraged to join in. I am very grateful to all the staff at this wonderful home.

My mother has been here for 2 months at a difficult time in her life, I have found all the staff extremely caring, kind and helpful at this very challenging time for all care homes. They have a dedicated team that goes above and beyond.

Everyone I speak to is always so happy and helpful, in spite of all of the problems Covid-19 has given them. I phone Mum frequently and the staff are always willing to go and find her if she's not in her room and give me an update on her day as they go to look for her. At Christmas, I sent a number
of presents to Mum and the staff were brilliant. They wrapped the presents for me and also put labels on her new clothes before wrapping them and giving them all to her at Christmas, which I really appreciated. It feels that nothing is ever too much trouble for them, so I really can't thank them enough for looking after Mum so well and also giving me peace of mind.

I have found the caring and office staff to be very helpful when I have contacted them regarding either visiting or phoning my mum at the home. In particular, one member of staff went out of her way to sort out a problem with Mum's hearing aids when Dad visited and she couldn't hear him. This is a very
difficult time for care homes ensuring that the virus does not get into the residents but I think that this home is doing all it can to prevent this.

My grandmother was cared for in the most incredible fashion throughout her whole stay at Alex Wood. She was there for over five years and the staff were always so very kind and loving to her. When he needs increased the team worked so very hard to accommodate her so that we wouldn't have to move her.
I can say that she was truly loved there. And we so very appreciate it. When Granny's health deteriorated, we, the family, received the same incredible kind and attentive care from the whole team to the very end. I couldn't recommend the staff here more highly.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.579)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.579) out of 10 for Alex Wood House is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.779 for Alex Wood House is calculated as follows: ( (76 Excellents x 5) + (17 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 95 Ratings = 4.779

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.8 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Alex Wood House is based on 8 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.8

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 36 registered maximum number of service users is 7.2, which has been reached with 8 Positive reviews. Points = 1

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
