Our cousin was 'placed' in Dove Court Care Home following a stay in hospital in December 2020 and we weren't sure what to expect as it was a very unsettling time for us all. We need not have worried as she has been so well looked after by the manager and her team, who have worked so hard to keep the
residents safe, stimulated and involved whilst working within so many constraints due to Covid restrictions.
Friends and family have visited and are always warmly welcomed. Testing and waiting in the car park is just 'a thing' that we need to all accommodate now, and this is done with a smile, despite being another thing that has to be carried out. Our cousin is happy and settled and we are greeted with a big smile and a hug - which says everything.
We continue to work closely with the manager who is very responsive to all communications and requests, adopting a real hands-on and practical approach to the many requests we have - we are not local so this makes everything logistically more complicated!

I have only entered the care home to see my sister once in the last eighteen months or so due to Covid lockdown and safety isolation by the care home under government guidance. This is, of course, fully understandable. Staff and residents have to be protected.
So, this review is, in reality, for
a time previous to the lockdown started but includes the one time I have been in to visit. My sister is sadly no longer able to communicate or even recognise me which is why I have only visited the once. At that visit and previously, as mentioned, the staff have been helpful and respectful and do their job to the highest standard. The care level is high, taking into account that my sister should really be in a nursing home. This is a care home, not a nursing home so to get this level of care is exemplary. The care home cleanliness is well up to the standard I would expect. And I believe her care to be as good as any and possibly better than most.

I recently had the joy of being reunited in person with my mother, who has been living at Dove Court Care Home since April 2020. On the day of my visit, I was required to have a Covid test. From the moment I arrived, I was made to feel at ease by the kind and caring staff who walked me through the full
process. The test was carried out very quickly and efficiently, and after a short while, the results came through as negative. I was given the full personal protective equipment to wear and was taken along to my mother’s room where I could spend some quality time with her. As I entered my mother’s room, her face lit up as she was very surprised to see me. Her room was very comfortable, and cosy and I sat holding her hand, chatting, and laughing like we used to do. I look forward to seeing her again very soon. I would like to say a big thank you to the manager and all the staff that have been tirelessly looking after my mother during the pandemic.

Since my Dad went into Dove Court, all the carers, staff and managers have been considerate of my Dad's needs and consulted with me whenever needed. The carers treat him on a personal level and understand his ways and treat him as an individual. Recently during Covid, they have kept me informed of necessities
and today I got to visit him for the first time since March. The set up they had arranged was considerate of the safety aspect, but also not so distant, restrictive or intrusive so as to make anything too unnatural, and that is all credit to the manager and staff.

My dad was transferred to Dove Court by the hospital in the middle of the Covid-19 lockdown and I have nothing but praise for the manager and staff.
The team members were very friendly and reassuring when I dropped clothes off, to the point of checking what his favourite meal is.
My dad has required
safeguarding during his stay and this was taken on with the utmost diligence by the team, which I am ever so grateful for.
Their professionalism and putting the care and safety of those residing with them is second to none.
Knowing my dad is in their care is very reassuring.
I've not been able to comment on some aspects due to the restrictions during lockdown.

The staff were friendly and my sister got on well with them. Food was brilliant and the entertainment was very good. The rooms were clean and tidy and each room has a toilet and sink which was good.

All the staff are brilliant and treat Mum with dignity and respect.
I am kept updated with concerns they may have from time to time, by phone calls e mails or at visits if less important.
I am made to feel assured that she is well looked after.
Mum was offered a different room some time ago, which
she accepted and loves.

My Mother has been in Dove Court Car Home, Jasmine Suit for nearly 5 years after the sudden death of her loving husband.
The day she moved into Dove Court she was welcomed with open arms and made very comfortable into her new home.
Nothing is too much trouble from all the staff. If, on any day there
is nothing she likes on the menu, the staff will bend over backwards to please her for what she would like. (Normally a Salad).
The Care home have numerous activities going one during the week and they will involve all the residents.

Moving to Dove Court and settling in – September 2018:
Mum moved into Dove Court in September 2018. At 87, this was a huge decision for her to move from independent living into a care home setting. She was looking for somewhere that she felt was ‘homely and friendly, with activities that she could
join in’. She visited Dove Court and immediately said she felt she could be happy there. Mum has very high needs, she was diagnosed with moderate Alzheimer’s and has vascular necrosis which causes very limited mobility.
There was some settling in needed when Mum first moved in, but this was mainly due to getting to know Mum and her likes and dislikes, but she was always made to feel very welcome. The home made a special effort to help her to settle by introducing her to the residents and personally asking her to join in the activities. We noticed on a number of occasions that carers were taking the time to talk to her if she seemed to be on her own.
Dove Court Staff and Management:
The quality of the care staff at Dove Court is of a very high standard. Turnover appears to be quite low which is essential for providing continuity of care to the elderly residents, the majority of which have memory issues.
The carers are kind and caring and treat Mum with dignity and respect at all times, encouraging independence when possible and there seems to be a genuine thoughtfulness and compassion. I have witnessed carers taking time to offer reassurance. They are also able to answer/find someone to
answer any queries that I may have. There is a good management structure in place to cover the two main areas – ‘management of the residents care’ and ‘running of the care home’ and both are of a very high standards. They are very aware of their roles and responsibilities and deal with all issues professionally, confidentially and promptly, both are very friendly and extremely approachable and nothing is too much trouble.
Activities at Dove Court:
The care home are fortunate to have an Activities Co-ordinator and an Assistant, which has a massive impact on the wellbeing of the residents. They provide daily activities relevant to the needs of the residents eg games, seated exercises, bingo, quizzes, nostalgia sessions, arts and crafts as well as one to one pampering sessions. A special effort is made on residents' birthdays with the popular karaoke which is a ‘residents' favourite’ as they get to choose the genre of music – I have seen residents and carers laughing and dancing together as well as having a hearty sing-a-long.
Regular visitors to the home including: Church groups, local school children, ‘show and tell’ and live music. There are occasional trips to the cinema, garden centres, etc. Obviously, spaces are limited as to how many residents can attend each trip, but there is a genuine awareness to be all inclusive and invitations are rotated to ensure all residents are offered the same opportunities.
Dove Court Care Home Setting – June 2019:
The care home itself is currently going through a major refurbishment. It was looking a bit ‘tired’ when Mum moved in (2018), but they have undertaken a major painting scheme throughout, updating of bathrooms and changing windows. The furniture is comfortable in the main areas and residents can furnish their own rooms.
From what I have experienced of the menu, meals appear to be nutritious and varied. Residents are encouraged to eat meals together in the
dining room, although they can choose to eat meals in their own room etc. Drinks jugs are left in rooms and drinks/snacks are offered at regular intervals – but they can also request food/ drink at any time.
Residents and family members are encouraged to be involved through open and informal discussions at regular ‘Residents and Relatives Meetings’ and are encouraged to speak about any points they would like to raise.
I am confident that mum is safe, well looked after and most
of all happy.

Since 2013 I have found the care home manager approachable and willing to listen and deal with any concerns I may have had efficiently. As for past and present careers I also have found them approachable, helpful, willing to listen and cheerful. They also keep me updated with any concerns they may have
and they listen to any I may have and they deal with things promptly.
Housekeeping staff are also approachable and deal with anything I am not happy with in the best way they can.
The home itself just needs redecorating and some of the furniture is looking tired and needs replacing. Apart from that its good, gardens could do with some more colourful planting to help it look more homely. Overall I am pleased with the way my mum has been looked after over the past four years and I am sure the rest of my family agrees.

My Grandmother and now, late Grandfather have been at Dove Court for nearly a year now. I am always impressed with the staff and how they treat my Grandmother with utmost respect and friendliness.
The Manager has been excellent at ensuring my Grandma is happy - even moving her into a new room to gain
a better outlook from her window.
Activities happen regularly including quizzes, sing alongs and even using ipads and residents are encouraged to join in if they are happy to do so.
We can always get in contact when necessary with the home to ensure everything is going well.

Both my parents went to Dove Court in Sept 2016 and I was very impressed and obviously happy to see the high standard of care they were given. When Dad passed away in Feb 2017, the love, thought and care given to mum by the manager and all the carers was second to none. Whenever I visit mum I am always
greeted with a smile and an update on Mum's welfare. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff who are always very busy, but they make the time to deal with any issues that arise; in fact, I would say they are all excellent at prioritising! I have to travel quite a distance to see mum but I am always confident that she is safe and extremely well cared for.

I have been visiting my mum and dad when he was alive, for almost a year now and whilst most of the carers are lovely there are a few issues that need to be addressed. There are hardly any activities for the residents and these people need stimulation and whilst there are hardly anything for the residents,
they live for their televisions which a lot of the time signal is so poor, they have nothing to do and they just sit there which is terrible for them. Perhaps the owners could put their hands in their pockets and get a decent ariel for the home. Perhaps a satellite dish would be a good idea. Mum is not showered or bathed regularly. I have made comments before but to no avail. Do something!

We always find a warm and friendly greeting when entering Dove Court. Quite often there will be one or two residents walking around in my husband's floor who are kindly treated by staff.
The effort put in by staff on an entertainment level for residents and families is to be admired. My husband's room
and bathroom are kept very clean. Above all, my husband recently had a fall which was dealt with carefully and professionally in a very calm manner.

My mother has been a resident for 3 years and I cannot fault the home at all. The staff are wonderful, they are polite, very helpful and make me feel assured that my mum is well cared for. My mum has been in Dove Court for 6 months. In that time, she has been given all the care she needs and more.
They have dealt with numerous hurdles and have successfully managed them all. We had a few problems to start with, but due to guilt on our part, for my mum having to go in the home. Dove Court
has definitely done more than we ever could have done ourselves.

I started working in care when I was 16 years old. There is nothing like care, it's really rewarding in its own way. Every single day is different and every single day you get that one little lightbulb moment where you are proud of how you have helped improve someone's life.


I started working with Larchwood Care in 2004 as a carer, progressing to senior carer, team leader, deputy manager and then manager. During that time I have achieved and an NVQ level 4 in management and level 3 in health and social care. In 2014 my career brought me to Dove Court as a home manager, covering maternity initially, which turned into the full-time job I have now.
