We are extremely happy with my mother's placement at Waterbeach Lodge.
The only real issue is that the food is not particularly to my mother's taste.
The staff are very helpful in providing a salad as an alternative to the main lunch menus and have also helped to source her favourite breakfast brioche.
Her
appetite has naturally diminished as she has become more sedentary.
We are grateful for the good care that mum receives.

I was very impressed with the level of care my father received during his two weeks of respite stay. Should the need arise in the future I would not hesitate to arrange another stay for my father.

My mother has been in Waterbeach Lodge now for two years and throughout that time her health has deteriorated and her needs have increased. I have found the care that she gets is very good and the staff are very attentive. They treat her with love and care and respect. The building is always clean and
tidy and never smells of urine. The communal sitting room is large, spacious and airy. There are always carers providing support in the sitting room and making conversation with the residents. Since Mum has been restricted to her room and bed she is frequently monitored and staff spend time with her, just talking, helping her drink and eat, or providing her with comfort care.
The entertainment that is provided by outside entertainers is very good and most really try to get the residents joining in. I like that school children and preschoolers also visit.
I have visited other homes as a therapy dog volunteer and none have come up to the standard of Waterbeach Lodge.

This is a very well managed operation with high morale among the workers. This leads to a high standard of attention and care to meet the individual needs of residents. The home is very beautifully appointed, more like a luxury hotel and furthermore is in a historic building with real character. All
this leads to a high-value experience for residents.

We have found the staff very kind to my mother-in-law and living there has helped her gain her self-confidence and improve her general mood as she was quite depressed and anxious after the recent death of her husband. The general atmosphere is very friendly and there seems to be quite a community feel
to the place where my mother-in-law has made some good friends in the time she has been there.

My mother was extremely reluctant to move into residential care, but changing care needs, following major surgery, meant it was an inevitable step. My sister and I had researched and visited a number of care homes locally and both agreed that Waterbeach Lodge was our first choice for communal and personal
facilities, location and general feel.
In the six months my mother has been at Waterbeach Lodge she has made friends, received not only excellent care but also friendship from the care team. She has been involved in varied activities each week and has been taken out on trips despite her lack of mobility. She feels safe and secure and the loneliness she felt when living on her own is no longer an issue. If she is ill, the doctor is called immediately, she has visits from the chiropodist, optician, mobile library etc and has her hair done in the in-house salon every week. She has been encouraged to continue with hobbies and start new ones.

Overall the standard of care at Waterbeach Lodge is very good. It is evident from the investment that has gone into the care hotel that the owners want to offer high-quality care. It is lead by a very good Care Manager and supported by a good team of friendly and caring staff. The accommodation is
of a high standard and is clean throughout.

My mother has used Waterbeach Lodge for respite care since 2014 and more recently has gone into permanent care there. Waterbeach Lodge offers residential care and dementia care on The Willows. There is a good ratio of staff to residents on The Willows to give more one to one care.

The transition from respite resident to permanent resident was made very smoothly. The staff made the whole process go with ease and helped me through a difficult process between going from care at home to permanent residential care.

I highly recommend Waterbeach Lodge for respite and residential care.

The staff are always very kind and everyone seems well cared for. The top floor, where mum has been moved to, is well thought out. Except for the problem of the heat which is unacceptable in my opinion. And also the location makes it hard for residents with reduced mobility, like mum, to get taken out
on the veranda or garden with ease.

My Mother has been a resident for 18 months. Her room is excellent and the care she receives matches it. Could not praise the management and staff too highly. They take a very personal care of their residents and make the effort to have regular visits from entertainers.

I found the home and staff to be very helpful. They went out of their way to try to accommodate a family member at very short notice.
The rooms were very nice, as is the rest of the care home.
All of the staff Ii spoke too or had anything to do with were very caring and helpful.
This is always a
very tense and stressful time, but it was a smooth process with all the help from the staff.

The manager always answered all questions asked and went above and beyond what I would expect.

I would highly recommend this care hotel to anyone looking for care for one of their loved ones. There is a lovely atmosphere when you walk in and this never seems to change.

Thank you for your care and compassion.

Current Review Score: 8.3 (8.319)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.3 (8.319) out of 10 for Waterbeach Lodge is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.3 out of 5 from 5 Reviews in the last 24 months.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Care Home is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months.

    The Average Rating of 4.276 for Waterbeach Lodge is calculated as follows: ( (20 Excellents x 5) + (34 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 58 Ratings = 4.276

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5').

The 4.043 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Waterbeach Lodge is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    • i) 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5

    • ii) 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the registered maximum number of service users in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Care Home registered for a maximum of 50 service users has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 46 registered maximum number of service users is 9.2. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 9.2 = 0.543

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

  • If a Care Home does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
