The Gables care home is situated in the market town of Chatteris, 24 miles from Cambridge, 20 miles from Peterborough and 12 miles from Huntingdon.

The team provide short-term, respite and longer term care and support for up to 49 residents at the home which is rated ‘Good’ by the Care Quality Commission (April 2023) and has an outstanding local reputation.

The home has wonderful private courtyard gardens, enjoyed by the residents. Inside, there are a number of large communal lounges, dining room and relaxing quieter spaces. There is a salon where residents enjoy regular hairdressing and nail appointments.

The team's main aim is to make residents’ stays as special as possible. Every day is special for The Gable residents, with fresh nutritious meals, and varied and interesting activities and entertainment. Each resident is treated to their own special personalised birthday cake; something The Gables is renowned for, ensuring residents have a very special day being spoilt.

The town of Chatteris is a pleasant and historic setting with many fantastic attractions including a library, local history museum and weekly market. The high street benefits from a post office, public houses, bakeries, newsagents and general stores. All are literally within a short walking distance from the home, with a doctor's surgery, multiple churches and local parks also close by.

Making the decision for a loved one to go into care is traumatic for everyone and the manager and staff at The Gables made this move so much easier for all of us. Mum was made so welcome and the staff took great care to help her settle in during her first few weeks and have continued to give great care.
The food is cooked in their own kitchen fresh every day and is excellent. Visitors are welcome at any time and encouraged. The atmosphere is positive and friendly and we have felt supported and relieved throughout.

Friendly, welcoming atmosphere with lots going on of interest to the residents - its like a 4 star hotel. I was really impressed with the friendliness of the staff, their patience and attention to the residents. My grandmother constantly referred to the high quality of the food served - she looks so

I am very pleases with the care my mother is receiving. The staff are always cheerful and caring in sometimes difficult circumstances. All the staff are extremely helpful when you ask for anything. Visitors are always made welcome even dogs. The surroundings are very pleasant particularly the garden.

My grandfather has been in The Gables for about a month after a long spell in hospital. He was very frail and thin when he arrived and has made a fantastic recovery. The staff are wonderful and extremely caring. The food is of a very high standard and the cleanliness is high quality.

Discharged from hospital ill and frail and in a month looks clean, well and happy - all due to the care provided.

I have found The Gables to be an excellent home for both my stepfather and my mother in law. Their needs have been met and just as importantly they have been happy to be there. There is plenty going on and the meals are home cooked daily and very good quality. The staff are both professional and caring
at all times.

My uncle was resident in The Gables from April 2014 until his death in January 2016. As far as he could be happy anywhere he was happy there. He was very well looked after was always clean and presentable. The staff were very helpful and easy to deal with and the manager was excellent. My uncle was
previously in another care place for 3 months. This home was considerably more expensive and very impersonal- The Gables was streets ahead. At the time of his final decline the staff kept me informed and were very sympathetic.

My father aged 95 first visited The Gables in 2015. He started with respite care for two weeks initially to give my mother aged 91 a rest as his full time carer. He went on to have a day there a week. The care he received from the manager, the care staff to the catering staff was genuinely caring. Dad
was treated with the utmost respect and dignity at all times. The consideration and empathy shown to us as a family was exemplary. The manager even went beyond her call of duty and would walk dad home to save mum coming to fetch him. Dad died peacefully in The Gables 20.1.16 and the care, dignity and love was there till then.

We first visited "The Gables" in 2015 seeking respite for my father aged 95. My mother (91) was struggling to cope as his carer at home from the very first contact from the manager (female) to every staff member we met the understanding and caring approach felt like we suddenly had a larger family!
Our dad died in The Gables on 20th January 2016, it is not possible to feel happy just now, but dad was well cared for to the end. The Gables team did that.

Julie Tyler

Job Title: Registered Manager

Joined: 2016

Julie Tyler began her career in care as a domiciliary carer in 2006 after deciding it was time for a career change, and she says she has never looked back.
In 2013 Julie moved to residential care and began working her way up to deputy manager, and then registered manager of The Gables in 2016.
She says that working in this industry allows us to 'Touch people's lives and make a difference to them even in the darkest of times'.
